  • This episode tackles a song from their legendary fourth album. A beautiful song, a wonderful lyric and a haunting double vocal from a folk music heroine (we also find out what Robert calls the album - IV? Runes? Untitled? Four Symbols? Or what?
One of the joys of this series is that we span the whole of Robert’s career so far. We also get to enjoy the rare pleasure of the man himself talking about Led Zeppelin. It’s always an honour and an enlightening experience.
This season will be accompanied by a limited edition vinyl single box set which collects 16 tracks from across his solo career across eight 7” singles. The set is now available to pre-order: lnk.to/RP_DiggingDeep_Vinyl

I know!!! That's just ONE of the things that have me hooked to Robert Plant lately!! There's a warmth, and a gentle friendliness, in his tone of voice, like you feel safe, and that he would never hurt you. And I get the feeling that he's been a good guy all of his life, like he never went through any rough times, or extensive changes, that would make him marred, or cause us to have any second thoughts, or doubts.
I think that there is a special blessing on him, that he is clean, meaning mentally, spiritually, so that he doesn't have to ever suffer any guilt, or fear, like those of us that have not been angels in our lifetime.
Who knows, Robert could've been an altar boy! 🤗🙏

One thing I like about Robert plant is that he loves Wales, in song remains the same, remember the Welsh flag on the boat? Im lucky I pass bron Yr aur every week, I've been there, magical place, I know he lives up by artists valley passed Machynlleth, anyway, I think he's done a lot to promote Wales and Welsh culture, probably more than the Welsh tourist board themselves. Hats off to him.

'The Battle of Evermore' is a shimmering magical perfection of a record -- music, lyrics, performance, mixing. I've always seen it as 'Stairway to Heaven's underrated sibling but it's a masterpiece in its own right.

I love this song. One of my favorite Zeppelin songs. I always pictured angels singing as I listened to this. This time in music was magical. A very special time in the music scene. There was so much going on in music and youth movement. I love that Robert always refers to the times. A great speaker, as well as an awesome singer songwriter and lets not forget the rest of the band. Listen to Jimmy's playing acoustic as only Jimmy can.John Paul Jones in the background. Sandy Deny's voice was beautiful with Robert's. Just a great song .

I find it fascinating and intriguing that Robert should include Battle of Evermore as part of his podcast, but not surprised at all due to the times we find ourselves in now. I like many people cut my musical molars on led Zeppelin and was familiar with the song, I always 'felt' some unexplainable 'thing' that stirred inside of my being when I listened to the lyrics and of course it is indeed beautiful musically. When Led Zeppelin disbanded I explored other musical interests but in the last two and half years have through an unusual set of personal circumstances been reunited with Roberts work post Zeppelin. I had no idea what treasures there were to be found in Roberts solo albums over the years, and of course it sparked an interest in me digging out my Led Zeppelin albums and re-uniting myself with them, only this time lyrically many songs began to take on a very different meaning because of course I had my own life experience that influenced the way I saw things.
Battle of Evermore (as well as Stairway to Heaven) was one of those songs that suddenly took on a much deeper meaning that Robert either consciously knew about when he was writing it or, it was Nature moving through him guiding him with the lyrics. WE are all part of Nature and not separate from it, once we understand and acknowledge that, Life takes on a very different meaning and can enrich our lives in ways we may never have known possible. Life becomes filled with Love and Magical once again.
Robert himself has said on occasions how he is influenced by the landscape that he has lived in most of his life including the Welsh Marches however I'm not convinced that Robert is referring to the differences that still exist between "Tribes", the borders, in Battle of Evermore. My understanding is that Battle of Evermore had/has much deeper meaning (as did/does Stairway to Heaven) Robert is either absolutely aware of this and is just keeping it to himself or it is buried in his subconscious and he is unaware of the deeper meaning.
It is indeed a story of a battle but the battle is between two cosmic energies, the very fabric of life itself and Natures eternal desire to seek balance. In Hinduism these energies are known as God Shiva and his consort Goddess Shakti. In Pagan times it was the ancient Sun God Ra and his consort Goddess Minerva Sulis as seen at the Roman baths in the City of Bath. "The magic runes are writ in Gold, to bring the balance back" These cosmic energies can be seen throughout history in many parts of the world and until balance is restored, until the Divine Feminine is placed back alongside her counterpart there will be no Peace...Which is why the "Prince of Peace Walks the night alone"
'The Queen of light took her bow and then she turned to go' Speaks volumes of the down fall of Matriarchy and the Patriarchal determination to torture, crush, and all but completely extinguish the Divine Feminine that was once honoured and revered. Since then life has become what most of us experience today systematic, devoid of understanding, real Love, kindness, respect and reasoning, we have lost touch with our own benevolent, humanity which is not the Natural way we were meant to live. This is experienced by Robert as he speaks of The two parts, he speaks of Travesty and call for Unity. This is why Robert was unable to sing both parts himself, he had to have a woman sing the other part because this is essentially the part, the Divine Feminine that is missing in life and probably something he has searched for all his life if his fantasy video in The Rain song is anything to go by. He makes himself known by being a traveller (through time and space) in Kashmir, a Shaman, again in The Rain song and soldier for Love fighting for Truth and Love. He understands that without this we are nothing.
Goddess (Nature) makes herself known through her creative forces, inspiration, symbolism, images & visions. She comes to us in Dreams whilst asleep and awake. Again its not surprising that the album is often referred to as "Four Symbols". Roberts personal symbol the feather in a circle is the feather of Ma'at, great Egyptian Goddess of Truth, Justice, Morality and Balance,
When Robert speaks of "a heralding", "of summoning a mindset" I see the parallels of a time we are living in now.
A dark place once upon a time where people are called together" Are we not required to come together now? to change the way we are living not only for our own personal health and well being but for the good of the planet, our Mother Earth.
For me this is the most telling part of the lyrics "Waiting for the Angels of Avalon, waiting for the Eastern glow" signifying the sunrise and a New Golden Dawn (time of the sixth Sun) as predicted by the Mayans and spoken about in The Golden Bough by James Fraser.
Right now, in our time men and women are gathering from The Isle of Avalon (Isle of apples) under the protection of the Great Mother Goddess, her seeds of Love have been planted and after a very long time the shoots are beginning to appear. New Priestess's and Priest's are training to Honour the Goddess (Nature) and spread her teachings. A new order of Motherworld has been created to address the balance and restore the Sacredness back into relationship, for the balance has to be restored and maintained in each and everyone of us to bring us into the New World we wish to bring into being.
Some of us carry both energies, We recognise the God (masculine) and the Goddess (feminine) within ourselves. For me personally speaking The Battle of Evermore is and has always been Prophetic. Its about a deep longing in our personal and collective Psyche for the return to something more Authentic. The battle of Evermore is a musical masterpiece, outside of time that takes us to the very depths of our Souls which is where it was meant to be felt even if its on a subliminal level.
    Love is the Only Law.........

I think Robert Plant is embracing something younger generations are void of musically and many of his generation have forgotten which is the true art and passion of music is its creation. He doesn't want to simply recreate the past because the act itself is void of creativity.
These pod casts are not simply nostalgic, they are seeing the passion of the creativity that made it art.
Jimmy Page, as awesome as Led Zep's music was, I believe Plant's detachment from JPJ and yourself musically is the lack of not wanting to progress and create new music.

A song that has never failed to delight for nearly fifty years. Disappointed Robert didn't mention JPJ's mandolin playing or J.R.R. Tolkien's lyrical influence...

i always called it The Four Stix Album & this was my favorite song on that album which is saying something considering all the great tracks it has. Tbh, I always thought there was a lot of LOTR fantasy/myth motifs throughout this record & especially in this song💖

This tune is one of my all time favorites from Zeppelin, thank you Robert for discussing it. There are many covers of "Battle" scattered throughout YT, and many people feel that Heart with the Wilson sisters does the best job of covering Zeppelin songs. Here they are doing a great rendition during their 2013 tour. ua-cam.com/video/wW-vChnbcpA/v-deo.html

What's funny about the "Four Symbols" album.... Zep 4 basically..... There are actually 5 symbols !
Sandy Denny has her own symbol in the album's insert.
    3 triangles. Cool.

These songs go way back, before my time, it's very impending and gloomy like a classic story, it's very British, kingdoms fighting each other
