I see division in politics is still running full-steam. I haven't kept up with it in a while but I make a comment about a trump shirt and lost 28 subscriber so far, all I have to say is why even think about Thailand if they are intolerant to somebody who might not think like them this is not the place to be.
Just making themselves miserable Chuck! If everything offends that easily. My land lady was wearing a t-shirt with a Swastika on it one morning. My friend said to her " why are you wearing it" "Fashion" She had no idea what it signified. When you stopped and said " I need to give him another American flag" Right before that was a picture of Che Guevara on the gate. No one got offended! Great to be in Thailand!
People never cease to amaze me! If they get butthurt about this little thing, they probably don't have the patience to deal with life in Thailand anyway!
So many people here is America see it as a winner takes all and NO MATTER what this other side wants to do is bad. Not a good way to run a government but that's what we have today
True. Can't tell you how many "I self insure" people I have seen disappear from Thailand bankrupt with no options. If you need triple bypass surgery you are up for >10 million baht. Most 'self insurers' actually have a cookie jar with 450 baht of coins in it. They promote their ideology about insurance, but you never hear from them when the sh^t hits the fan, beacause they can no longer afford internet. My point. PLEASE GET INSURANCE PEOPLE.
Always good to hear other peoples experiences of Thailand, he seems like a nice guy. I am not retired in Thailand but always make sure my medical / travel insurance is up to speed prior to leaving for anywhere. So many people travel without it, then cry about it when something happens, for me it is just peace of mind. Thanks for sharing Chuck.
This interview was spot on. I'm very happy you did it and how openly both of you talked about the differences and how to master them. It also has a lot of info for how to get over to Thailand for living and health insurance which is an important thing, especially when you get older. Once I retire in 2 to 3 years, I will as old as Martin is today. So I'm so glad to see that you can get a reasonably priced health insurance in Thailand and not like in Europe where the monthly payment would be as big as Martins monthly budget. Thank you very much to both of you.
Martin is a very interesting guy, and I'm glad he let you pick his brain a bit to get the perspective of a single retired guy in Thailand. I love his humble attitude and it's great to see that a budget can be so low and still be content in the greatest place on Earth. I love people watching too, and get where he's coming from, just enjoying life and whatever happens, happens. This was very entertaining and thanks for posting. Cheers, Tony
Great interview with Martin, it sounds like he lives a simple life much like myself. It was very nice of you and Paige to help him with the insurance, it seemed reasonable considering age and previous health. Many blessings to you, Paige and family 🙏🏼 Cheers 🍻
I think we can all relate to the way Martin explained the thai family structure , i particularly liked the buffalo part, a very nice guy with good values. cheers.
This video was one of the most interesting interviews I have seen of all the interviews I have seen about people and their experience and viewpoints in transitioning away from their home into Thailand and their life in Thailand. Martin seems to be a wise man and I find him to be worth listening to. Thank you chuck for your questions that made the interview go well and drew out the interviewee.
Great you help out a friend, don"t see that these days someone taking the time help a fellow person, with no favor in return, thanks Chuck and Paige for taking your time to help this gentleman out.
Just saw your comment Flemming. Sorry so late! Glad you liked Chuck's video. I think everyone is interesting in some way as we learn from our experiences in life. Although I find other people not myself much more interesting. Chuck & Paige are super down to earth really nice people.
Excellent info today, and you're a good friend for helping Martin out. Thanks for making these videos, I enjoy tagging along, and your recent trip was a lot of fun!
Love you big bro ... but you’re not a bigot ... the one who shall remain nameless ... has proven that he is. So proud of how inclusive and engaging you are ... how open an non judge mental you are ... you change Thai’s opinions of arrogant Americans everyday. But that guy ... ! Keep making good content.
What an excellent vid, a really wonderful guy and eye opening discussion. Chuck I really loved watching this. I have a very good understanding of Thai culture having been around Thai's for the last 18 years. I love their culture and their outlook on life. Family is definitely number one in Thai culture and I admire them for that. I think that us farangs can learn from them about how important family really is. Your humour is so radical and I loved the guy in the shop. You said that he was probably the most intelligent guy in Thailand and I agree judging by his t-shirt.😂 Lovely vid and regards to Paige and family. God bless and stay safe. Pete from South Africa.👍👏
Martin is an example of what others should expect. We're mentally much younger than we are physically. I think a lot of people misinterpret the need for companionship, with some devious intensions, but in reality are just a need for connectivity to other human beings. I think his comments towards end of life decisions is an area that few people even address. That topic would take multiple episodes, and never be resolved. This was a good episode, thanks.
Great video really like martin interview down to earth guy talks a lot of sense. always enjoy your every day look at life in Thailand have lived here myself for nearly two years
What can I say Chuck another great interview with good info yet again. Thanks so much for the help you provide us so we don't have to stumble around so much.
Great interview of Martin. Breezy and easy to understand and appreciate. Forget about the political haters. Not even worth the words on the keyboard. Intolerant people looking only for like-minded views.
Listening to Martin and you had me thinking. Martin’s a lot like me. Of course, he’s 63 and I’m 73. I seem to think and act like he does. Good video, excellent topic, super guest.🙏🏼🌟🌟👍
Really liked Martin. He is a really cool guy. I relate to and have experienced many of the things he (and you) opened up about. Here in Hua Hin life is good now. Would really like to meet up with Martin in Chiang Mai some day... Thank you Chuck for another of your many great videos. 🇺🇸✌
Great advice Martin. You should come stay here for a few months first, preferably rent. Coming for a few weeks is really holiday mode; a few months exposes you to more living conditions.
Chuckee, that is one of the best vid/interviews you have done... Martin, was a great speaker and had some very interesting/intelligent information and observations.. Not sure why.... But... I moved to the Philippines in March 2020, but still look forward to watching your Thai vids more than the P.I. ones.. Maybe its your voice..lol.. And of course to see the bubbly Paige bop around.. ... Keep em coming my friend, great job!!..... Scott
Good morning chuck and young paige hope your having a great weekend . Keep up the great videos chuck . We all look forward to another adventure where ever you and paige are travelling to . Take care and stay safe .
Hi Chuck N Paige enjoyed your video. Martin was a great interview with good information and intelligent insights. I think having health insurance is a must over there even if the visa does not require insurance I would get it anyway. Thank you for the video. Take care GOD Bless you and yours. M
First time I've heard a Scotish/Irish /Canadian accent, pretty cool, good heritage, Martin is a very wise man, good advice I wish I had heard a while back.
This is a conversation I dismissed the first time around, now to hear this topic again, I should have paid attention the first time. Oh live and learn. Pleasure to meet Martin. Cheers to Chuck and Paige. You Rock!
Nice interview with very good content. Martin appears quite content and satisfied with his decisions and circumstances. Always good to reach that point in life, regardless of age.

Many medical insurance policies in Thailand are an “add on” to life insurance policies and the actual medical expense limits can be low by international standards. The limits may be satisfactory for covering minor medical expenses but may not be adequate to cover a serious medical event. If you have additional coverage from your home country then fine but if you don’t, consider the adequacy of the medical coverage and limits carefully.
Thank's for this informative vlog, I am of similar age to Martin and considering a move to Asia on retirement. Very happy with the Health insurance info and also Martin's concept for retirement, which appears to be "to cut your cloth to meet your measure. Hope you both enjoy your retirement.
Good morning, Chuck and Paige. You are really a kind person to help Martin. Hope everything goes well. Have a great day. God bless you and family. Thanks for the video. 👍😍🙏
I am 72 and still young ha ha ha ha, Culture difference is tremendous, asian communities are all family first and every else follows, I have the privilege to be part of asian family, my wife is Japanese. I had many good experiences in Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong...I learned a lot about how to give to the family, in doing so you receive a bounty of love and security....
One of your best interviews. Martin gave a lot of sound advice. I chuckled when I saw the Tuck Tuck. One of the spearheads was missing from the chrome bars which prevent passengers putting any part of their body out and getting injured by passing traffic. It had been replaced by a table fork 😂 typical Thailand 😂
I remember Martin from last time, still a great guy with good vibes. Chiang Mai is great, just wish the pollution wasn't so bad. Good work Chuck & Paige.
