    Damn. The reverse grip thrusting motion saved my life from a crazy person. I was walking alone at 10:30 in a dark alley in valenzuela when i heard a crazy person screaming at me from the other side of the alley when he started to sprint towards me, i was shaking but i have my pocket knife ready. The bastard sprint towards me then grabbes my backpack. I did a fast, turning thrust which i ended up stabbing the guy's waist. He started mumbling words that doesn't mean anything. I was shaking when i looked at him bleeding on the ground he was also holding a knife or a shard of glass. I ran away as fast as possible to the nearest barangay station and the crazy person was captured. It turned out that the crazy person raped and killed 2 children from that area months ago.

    I noticed a lot of these motions seem dependent on the blade being double-edged. Most knives be them combat knives or otherwise are single-edged. How do these forms translate to use with the modern standard of the single-edged knife?

    • @persona8439
      @persona8439 3 роки тому +1

      Like painting.
      When you paint a picture, you keep the brush on the paper as you move it.
      Keep the sharp edge infront of you.
      Even if you used the back dull edge
      It will still cause minor damage.
      Plus the tip of the blade will eventually hit if you keep it infront of you.
      Like painting.

      It was my understanding that when you turn the knife from stab to cut your are still keeping the blade against the enemy.

    Taught LEO & CO's Knife defense for at least 15 of the 24 yrs I served. Have faced a piercing weapon several times, 1-3 times direct contact or a couple seconds start to finish. Had trained in several martial systems for 30 years, I'm old now but going to start training knife drills with wife. I have to agree it doesn't go as you have trained. But the private, and professional training gives you a solution when it happens. Worst one I did a wrestling Suplex (devastating on cement) that saved my life but I would never teach it. I already had ahold of him when he tried to stab me. So thank your what your doing, but don't discount anything Kali... the truth is somewhere within them all.

      Ray Gun when using a knife or any other weapon for that matter for self defense, you have to be careful how you use that weapon and certain Responsibilities come with that. You have to take Responsibility for your actions. In other words, You don't want to just stab someone and take a human life over an argument. In Kali You don't have to always go for a lethal attack. Instead, you could just cut An opponent across the bicep or tricep Or even cut the wrist or hand. That way you can immobilize the attacker's hand rather than slashing an artery such as the Femoral or Coratid artery And having your opponent bleed out Or from puncturing an internal organ. Sometimes just leaving a nasty slash across in opponent's face can end the fight. Sometimes your best bet is to avoid any confrontation at all costs Before something could escalate into a serious situation.

    • @raygun4468
      @raygun4468 6 років тому +1

      I have always talked about using the right weapon for the encounter! My first choice is my ASP 21inch baton ... but if you have a blade I will not bring a baton to a knife fight.
      I would also go for the bicep / hamstring tendon before a lethal attack leading to bleeding out.
      All this also depends on where you live. I live in India but if you live in the US and you use a blade to defend yourself ... *GOOD LUCK!*
      You have assumed that I know nothing regarding the level of severity in the threat and the appropriate response. This includes weapon of choice and where to attack.
      This tells us more about you than it does me ...

    Good whatever time of day it is,
    Full disclosure, I only just started looking at Kali, but I do have a quick question: Why is the lead leg the same as the hand holding the blade? Is it to maintain closeness to the opponent/enemy, or is there a defensive advantage?
    If this sounds like a really dumb question, please don't hold that against me... I only picked up a blade a week ago.
    Thanks in advance.
    Keep up the awesome work.
    S
    P.S.
    Would you consider replaying the movements in slower motion? It would make it easier for a dumb ass like me to follow. Thanks.

    • @mcanastacio
      @mcanastacio  2 роки тому +1

      A few reasons, possibly more depending on the system.
      For us, it does place it closer/allows more range. It also allows full swings / slashes to have more torque by avoiding opposite shoulder to hip crossing. “They” say that a left lead foot and a right live (armed) hand causes self inflicted cuts.
