One of the worlds best engines, that and its SOHC little brother.
Not unusual for some of the older Fiat DOHC engines to be able to rev up to 10,000 rpm.
old man...long experience...the best :-)
@snap2n it is a "hybrid" The engine outer is "Torque" Euro2 Bravo/Brava 1.6 16v engine (86.4mm bore and 67.4mm stroke, 182A4000) without the stock intake and throtle body, within the Euro3 Stilo 1.6 16v engine's crankshaft (80.5mm bore and 78.4mm stroke, 182B6000). Nowdays it is sold in the same setup in Brazil in Fiat Linea as 1.9 16v (1838ccm, 86.4mm bore and 78.4mm stroke).
Both are based on the old "Fiat SOHC" engine from 1969 (Fiat 128).
Peak hp 265 @ 9000rpm
and peak Rpm 255 hp @ 10000rpm
Rivals the 4age 20V Formula Atlantic? I love the powerful small 4 bangers that rev to the moon... They are so badass!!!!
In effetti tirare fuori da un aspirato 1800 (anche 2000 cc) 250 HP a 10.000 giri non è da tutti.
Complimenti.
And that, lads and gents, is tuning. 250 hp from a 1.8 with no turbo or supercharger. My congrats.
dont look like 1.8 16v...look more like 1.6 16v from bravo,stilo,...that is reason why i ask
Yeah i know that stuff. Nice to see someone actually knows his stuff around here for a change. :)
What i was implying was that they manage to squeeze out that power, at those revolutions by only predicting what the air/fuel ratio is. It's quite incredible achieving this just by looking at spark plugs, listening to the engine, looking at temperatures and so on. I guess wideband sensors are crippling today's tuners in a way too. ;)
That's maybe true.. But the italians were the first, who used small high revving engines, like the Abarth 1000TC
hm, nevermind that.
the 1.6 16v comes in 2 versions, larger bore, smaller stroke, and vice versa, by combining the larger bore block and the longer stroke crankshaft you get this beast.
@racekarl
I like it. Old school, before all the computers and technological doodads. :)
i think that this is the 1.6 motor, may be volumed up to 1.8. iv got 1.6 delta and it looks the same. nothing like the 1.8...
Long time ago, in racing.
Since the 60s, all race systems were like K/KE-Jetronic or Kugelfischer-like - mechanical injector system, sometimes with electronical controls. The only sensors usually were TPS and crank angle. Most race engines run at full throttle all the time, so part load is not important for them. AFR sensors are attached when tuning engines and then are thrown away. The system on this engine is more like Kugelfischer injection.
AFRs are needed for turbos, N/As are predictable.
DoriFord good old Kugelfischer 🙂
dios como respira me quita el aire
yes....!! unfortunately small high revin engines tend to hav a short life spand...but if u look after it well..... it shud last long enough for u to enjoy that thrill...that a high rev NA engine cn offer...!!
fiat punto abarth: normaò street car with 180hp and 1.4 liter....american v8 are 8 liter and 200hp. this engine is without turbo and 250 hp
Perfect engine for an ultralight.
Skip to 1:35 for the good part
Is this the Gen-III 128 block?
I could do with a reliable lump for my X1/9. ;-)
this engine sound like Fantastic Italian Automotive Technology.
fiat OWNED
Love seeing the injectors fire
bello
Avrebbe senso?
@natjzam i stand corrected. dont see too many vehicles with manual fuel injection out side of some hot rods and rat rods.
Questo motore non è un 1.8 ma un 1.6 16v
Model Step A:1581cc 86,4 x 67,4
Model Step B: 1596cc 80,4 x 78,4
The engine from this video should be with the Step B rods/crankshaft, it's possible, in Brazil exist this configuration in Fiat Linea, 1839cc 86,4 x 78,4
Love how the slides work..!!
@zapwatt
What i don't get it??
Do you even know what is name of this engine???
Stock power??
where is used engine???
i think that engine isn't from 84' because Fiat doesn't have technology from that year that can reach 250bhp, without forced induction. i think that's Bravo engine from 94' maybe, nowhere 84'. good day, and learn something about 4cyls NA engines history, specially about Honda's B serie.
A) I don't know what you're laughing at. Can you make 250HP with anything Honda made in 1984? Well that's what these guys did with this F.I.A.T. engine.
B) do you really believe Honda's claimed HP figures? I have some land on the moon I would like to sell to you.
1.6 16v, 1.8 crankshaft ;)
what is that the da Vinci dyno?? 1482 special?
I don't think you get it. Show me something 1.8 litres from Honda in 1984 and try to make 250HP with it. You can't.
The only thing you have done is compare apples to tangerines.
Looks really like the 1,6 16V maybe bored to 1,8l or the Zylinderhead is from the 1,6 but the 1,8l looks different
@moonerdizzle Manual fuel injection? would that be a guy pumping fuel manually?? mighty biceps he must have :P
Actually its mechanical fuel injection, most likely something similar to the Kugelfischer injections used in the 70s.
Old Schenk hydraulic dyno...but I wouldn't complain...it still does the job quite well.
Sounds like your friend have been watching Wangan Midnight. ;)
Yup, but it's me who makes his dreams come true. Tuning L28 ain't cheap at all, pistons, valves, seats, intake gasket - the first package from Japan - was about 2000 euro. A cam - another 1000 euro. The first engine to come is 350 hp N/A version. First, I'm not that experienced to do a TT with carbs at once, second, he had never driven 500+ hp RWD cars, so he needs to learn also.
@gc1242 you wouldnt need italian in the equation if u wanted reliability
you can find tonnes of videos od S2000 tuned by J'S Racing, witch is most powerful 4-banger in the world.
@2jzgtejza80 I don't have one, but don't worry, i'll get one for you.
this is 10000rpm but when he gonna be puted in car it can not be so fast @ 10000 because of weight
@thing503 my m8s car what is a 2.0L T and its a Vauxhall Astra VXR and that has 250hp
If the instrumentation is set up correctly, then it seems that this engine can reach 10k rpm. The tachometer is the small instrument next to the window. The needle always reaches the right black dot which is aligned wih 10k rpm. When the camera focuses on the tacho it is clear... Very nice try, but valuable only as an excercise. Fiat turbo engines (1.4t, 2.0t 4cyl, 2.0 5cyl) can generate much more power reliably and with less money spent on them.
iniezione meccanica...
@rotorman13b Those are not carbs!!!!!!
i've seen a 1.8 16 like this in a car at 8500 rpm in 2nd gear
go away with that camera or it will suck you in lol :)
Toyata's are shite, Nothing good since the Supra tbh.
for what are you doing this ?
Vicent Orige from Brazil...look for it on youtube. 2.0 16v Ecotec 340cv no turbo, no NOS. best time on the 1/4 high 9.
i am and honday fan and i still say this engine rocks. Besides where would be the fun if all bought the same fucking brand?
@windfucker26 yess VolksWagen hence the VW not WV
Sounds a bit flat to me. try a Ford BDA instead.!
Now the only thing to do is to put it on a cento
Now THIS is beautiful...
Sounds like it's gonna be an awesome build though. :)
it has itb's individual throttle bodies
FIAT= Fehler In Allen Teilen/Failures In All Parts. :P but nice engine ;)
from what car is that engine???...looks litle strange...dont look mi like 1.8 16v from tipo
@alfistii1
Newer Alfas and Fiats are much better than before, no doubt.
Maserati and Ferrari are the same thing different skin. Lancia is best for me, specially legendary Lancia S4 from famous B Group and street versions HF Integrale.
@windfucker26 so u hate VW???:D:D:Dgoooood:D
I'll tell you the truth, he has an old Nissan, but not Z. He will buy a Z for a TT engine, while N/A would stay in the old car. I have 2 blocks now, N42 for N/A and F54 for turbo, and 3 N42 heads. One is soon to be cut in slices for inspection and mocking porting master shapes, testing on head flow dyno, re-mocking and so on. :)
The old car is a nice, but 4 door Nissan. Tuning it for 600-700 HP engine is a nightmare. It's better to buy a Z and tune it, when the budget is the same.
FIAT= Fuck, It Aint Toyota
@moonerdizzle Manual fuel injection?? would that be a guy pumping fuel manually :P
Its a mechanical fuel injection, most likely similar to a kugelfischer used in the 70s.
how much will it kost me too make one like?
@ni99anugget not necessarily there are plenty twin cam 8V engines ford ran some in theyre rally cars in the early 70s but yeah THIS engine is 16v
@bigfreddybear all motors are copy cats...
technically it's slide throttle injection.
that is nice runners! never seen trottlebody like that.
Thats MENTAL!! Want one!! Sounds fantastic too!! :)
cazzo però l'avete preparato bene per far 250cv in aspirato...
this video is cool.i tuned my fiat brava 1.6 120hp and put a turbo charger and a nos system
This engine is the 1.8 atmospheric the hgt punto has on it or not??????
not, this is not the 1747ccm "Pratola Serra" engine
@Coyote27981 lol, sorry about that, it was a off day for me, one to many to drink while out in the garage.
@zapwatt
The point is that B18c from Integra is capable reach 265bhp with J'S Racing tuning. I don't know why you force the 1984 year...but Honda was produced S800-M model in 1970 with 800ccm with rated power to 120bhp@10k rpm, that means 150bhp/liter.
o.O is that how they used to rate it ;)
Youre absolutely right. I have a 91 mr2 turbo, and have constant problems. either its eating an alternator, or it wont build oil pressure. Always a problem.
I would like to put this motor on a small boat as an inboard. like a 14' boat.
Honestly.. it sounds like about 6000 rpm at peak. The 'pitch' isn't 10k...
@hobizoli
"A prominent feature of the Fiat SOHC engine its massively over-square proportions. This over-square design allows large (within the constrains of a reverse-flow configuration) valve sizes relative to engine capacity. A secondary benefit is the short crank throw reduces the accelerative forces on the con-rod allowing the engine to operate at significantly increased engine-speeds"
hes talking about the lancia EVC, a turbo rally proto car.
@Pinin500 You're comparing a street engine (6L and 50HP) to a highly stressed racing engine with a turbo the size of jupiter.
@2jzgtejza80 Of course... a fiat 600 engine can rev up to 12.000 rpm... and so?
@tn21beer nah, its actually made by ferrari but because ferrari was owned by fiat fiat put their name on it
SINCE 1967!!!
Honda S800 VIR LM...revs to 11000rpm with output power of 120bhp.
Stock S800 producing 85bhp@9000rpm
