Popping jumps its like a survival mechanism. Its the worst feeling, your body enters a state of shock and acts upon it, its so fast you almost don't notice. Maybe cause you didnt pick correctly or the edge slipped or the axis was off, the speed wasn't right. Too bad for the skaters cause if they would have actually tried the quads or triples even with a fall, they would have (maybe) gotten more points that with a popped jump. My coach always says its better to go for it and fall that pop jumps.
I agree with that but it depends how bad the take off was or how far off axis it is. If it's only a small error it'll only be ur or step out but if it's way off then it's far better to pop than to injure yourself on the landing
I don't know where the term came from, maybe because when you jump you rotate your body tightly and compactly so when the rotation open up (arms and legs) unintentionally it looks like a balloon popped/ burst.
Some of these were doubled jumps rather than popped jumps which are way worse. Popped jumps are usually singles, where the skater is about to rotate but pretty much bails on the snap of the jump. Way better to double than pop--nothing drops a score faster than a popped jump. 😬
Oh God the way you added memes when Nathan and Yuzuru popped their jumps I could feel your suffering and pain. Seeing them both pop their jumps just makes me sad and frustrated and I need to inhale deeply or else I don't know what to do lol. If this is how I feel, how much more of those two and all the skaters who popped their jumps? >_
Nathan popping and waxeling at Japan Open just had me on the ground in tears... from laughing snd crying at the same time! He was such a mess there... And then not more than 4 months later breaks multiple world records😂😂
I wouldn’t say Mao’s jump was popped. It was a deliberate single toe as she didn’t have enough momentum going into the jump due to hitting her skates. There wouldn’t be enough momentum to do a triple toe
lol @ all the memes with Nathan popping his jumps. He seemed so surprised with that second one there, haha. Unfortunately, Japan Open is always rough for him.
To be honest im really picky as a skater and whenever I try doing my jumps I stop because I think my pattern is bad and ill hit someone or maybe I put my foot in a different position for my salchow and then ill be way off axis
Someone please explain why some of the jumps got no BV? I understand in some cases the jump was not executed correctly, but in others, I saw no major errors. I know that you can not repeat jumps, but most of them were too "basic" for the skaters to have performed them earlier in the program!
the bar has been set way up into the sky with triples and even quads n quints so a meager double no longer satisfies the viewer let alone faulty or clumsy landings and landing on both feet. let's hope nobody lands a sixtuple axel anywhere in the near future

I guess Japan Open 2019 was cursed 😂
All 2019 XD
not for sasha trusova and alina zagitova lol!
@@ninam.4344 yeah, these two young ladies won over the rest of the whole world
Poor Japan Open... I didn't know, that in English you just call them "popped". In Russian, we call them "бабочки" - "butterflies".

I learnt something new today!! 😁
@@SkateInsider i think it's called a popped jump because you pop out of the rotation position
This was painful to watch. My heart breaks for all them 😭. So GPF and Japan open were cursed? Yuzu's Japan nationals was also a very tough watch. 😭
Damn this is hurting me emotionally mentally and physically
🤣🤣 I needed my inhaler for my asthma while editing it
True it hurts me alot!
I love the editing haha especially on yuzu's part ..holding on to his tears and fanning on his face..
This must be the most unsatisfying fs video ever lol 😂 the pops are indeed the worst mistakes, they cost a lot of points especially on quads
I'm always Noooooooo whem I watch a popped jump and then I realise it's safer than "force" the planned jump, fall and hurt yourself.
This video killed me especially with yuzuru 🥺

Shoutout to Shoma for not making this list! One thing you can say for him is he THROWS himself into his jumps no matter how hard it’s going to hurt.
Shoma... Oh boy let's not even get started on Shoma😂😂🤦

Pop jumps are the worst jumps 💀
They're all human. :) I'd honestly rather see them land safely without injury than force it and hurt themselves.
Even the best and strongest skaters are not immune to the popped jump, because even they can mistime a jump and involuntarily make this error.

wait, I didn't know that Javier Fernandez competed last season!
Yes, he did Japan Open
Ikr, I thought he already retired
@@chamali1558 he did. The Japan Open is a pro competition.
@@kadovax6567 so....he still skates???
@@losthope528 yes, for a pro competition only. I only saw him do Japan Open. He's doing ice shows like other former competitors.
I think Yuzuru was actually going to try a 3Axel-3Axel seq at GPF.
Coming to watch this after Yuzuru popped his first jump in the Men's short program. Made me curious what a "popped" jump was.
My baby Yuzuru 👑
Жизненные реакции 🥺 Ханю и Чен навсегда в нашем сердечки💖
Javier Fernández popped a quad into a triple that aint too bad tbh
This is what makes figure skating entertaining 😝🤩 cuties hahaha
I remembered Mao Asada's 1T at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
真央ちゃんのバンクーバーオリンピックでの1Tを思い出した…本当なら単独3Tだったけど
I wouldn’t say Mao’s jump was popped. It was a deliberate single toe as she didn’t have enough momentum going into the jump due to hitting her skates. There wouldn’t be enough momentum to do a triple toe
Japan Nationals Shoma Uno triple axel euler single flip. Luckily he had Lambiel now
this video made me feel so much better about myself
Jason is so fabulous

Jason Browns popped axel looked so good o.o

In the short program, a skater must do a triple (triple or quad for men) jump out of steps. If a skater does a double jump, then it recieves 0 points.
@@quadflutz319 Thank you very much! I did not know that!
So you are Nathan Chen and Alina's fan 😆
ye i am, nathan and alina are my fav of all times 🙂
Javi's the Best :)
i was wincing the entire time :'D my soul was hurt :'D
Tbh this shows that this can happen to anyone, even to the best of the best of skaters.
Muy lindo video y bien animado con esas caricaturas muy emotivas jiji.y todos los chicos muy bien aunque nuestro Yuzuru casi que falla. Gracias.💜🤗😘😍💜
Interesting, that almost in all the cases here we can see the jump would fail by its entrance.
this has to be one of the most depressing video you have to edit 😂
yes indeed 🤣 this comment speaks my heart out

My goodness me!
I couldn't watch the whole thing :'c lol I always want for everybody to do awesome
JNats 2019, Yuzu was so exhausted bringing his A game with his Origin-Otoñal programs 🥺
His schedule was Can Jpn Torino Jpn all in 2 months iirc
I don't understand the term "Pop a jump."
Can anyone explain this, for someone who's just starting?
Even Steve Carell (6:12) is pissed off about Rika's mistake. I didn't know he is figure skating fan ! 🤣
My emotions during this video: 😮😁😣🤣😑😝😫😂😔😀😭
4:00
3A + 3A + seq
oh no
I find the mixing of very professional content and meme reactions a bit weird, its quite jarring when you're watching the vid
Why do some of them get the BV for landing a double jump but others get 0?
In the short it has to be a triple or quad (for guys) so a double is an invalid jump in the SP
poor Karen Chen and her 3lo
Y los subtítulos en español 😅
🤣🤣🤣
