Huge Caps fan here and Malenstyn plays fast, big, very good defensively, and his skill will surprise you. Y’all are going to love this guy. Sorry to see him go, but we have to get younger. Love y’all’s fan base. Great show
🎯
Thank you!
Thanks bud
It makes you wonder why they let him go for a 2nd round pick. Im looking forward to finally have some toughness!
Skinner buyout was not about money, it was about attitude. Winning teams play defense and play physical. Ruff wants that attitude on day one of camp.
Agreed.
Why spend to the CAP ???....I believe we have a good mix of SPEED & SKILL. We will roll 4 lines finally 🙌
Our 3rd line isn’t scaring anyone.
@@jamesmiller6217 give Ruff a chance. He will have his influence
Next year many need to be signed. Quinn, peterka,Byram, upl,McLeod. They'll be near cap
There's nothing sneaky about Joe's room temperature takes!?
GMKA summer acquisitions of Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel should be viewed as the Buffalo Bills acquiring Hyde and Poyer.
Adams traded to acquire Malenstyn as the first piece of the culture change then brought in his line mate Aube-Kubel.
Malenstyn brings speed and physical play, hitting everything that is in his purview.
Aube-Kubel also brings the speed element, plays a smart game and isn't afraid to mix it up and battle along the boards.
Adams targeted these players to rebuild the culture from a soft, easy to play against team to a physical, hard to play against team.
Seth Appert loves Malenstyn and speaks highly of him as a two way player and claims he's a nightmare that has opponents looking for a line change when he's on the ice.
Being harder to play against means adding elements that are tougher to defend, fast and physical wears teams down and wins games.
Malenstyn's size alone was enough to trade a second round pick, let alone his two-way play and defensive zone face-off percentage.
He won't be scratched.
You guys willl be asking him where you can buy his father's beer when you talk to him on the radio!?
He'll be the guy that Rob Ray, Dan Dunleavy, Paul Hamilton, Lindy Ruff and Seth Appert will be praising for what he brings to the roster night in and night out.
You keep teeing em' up this summer, but your scorecard isn't showing any improvement.
In this installment you didn't even qualify for the back nine or cottage beers.
If I'm being honest I don't think you'd comprehend this game with a caddy or watching from the press box.
Have fun playing NHL and living in fantasy land! 😂
You had me until you said Hamilton
@@davidschmidbauer3930 The Hammer sandwich was too much to swallow!?😂
#8 that sticks out for me is Doug Bodger
Joe - please double check next year's salary cap situation. According to Spotrac projected cap space is indeed $33 million. But remember that Pekka-Lukinen and Krebs are not under contract now, much less next year. Say the two sign bridge deals with a combined hit of $6 million. That would leave $27 million.
In addition to the four you named (Levi, Peterka, Quinn and Byram) that need to be signed, here are the players on our current roster who will need to be re-signed or replaced for next year ('25-26): Zucker, Greenway, Aube-Kubel, Jokiharju and Bryson. Their current combined salary cap hit is $14 million. The Sabres can't afford that much next year. And Ryan Johnson's contract expires next June.
Bringing in affordable prospects such as Rosen, Kulich, Ostlund and perhaps Novikov will be necessary to stretch cap dollars. But the Sabres will most certainly be at the cap next year. Even so, some of those big four player contracts will have to be bridge deals. The Sabres cannot afford to hang on to all of them long-term. Pegula is not being cheap.
I agree the Skinner buyout is mysterious. But the salary cap numbers for next year are much tougher than most fans realize.
Skinner Buyout was cause he scored 9 goals, 3 of them being in a single game, after he got back in January and then he offered no help on the defence. He was also responsible for some game loses, 3rd Toronto game in overtime as another example. It was either a buy him out or trade him out and he blocked trades with his NTC so they had to buy him out.
Oettinger got 4 mil x 3, no way UPL gets 5 mil
welp
@@scottyb9367 technically I’m still right but I hate how close I got to being wrong
Good grief Joe, Kulich or Rosen are not starting on the 4th line ! 4th line all year long will be ...
Malenstyn Lafferty and Aube-Kubel.
Krebs will be spare .
Adams traded for Malenstyn for his physical play aka HITS and shot blocks something which has been lacking with the Sabres for the past few years!
Skinner is SOFT & a D liability , and Lindy Ruff didnt want him on the team!
#8 Tony McKegney Doug Bodger
#17 Mike Foligno , Rick Dudley , and Fred Stanfield
Yes im old . 😂😊
# 27 Larry Playfair,
The booger
Yeah, but Greenway, Krebs and possibly McLeod are no better than 4th line material, so giving up a 2nd for another 4th liner in Malenstyn is questionable
haven’t been paying much attention the last few months. better for my mental health sometimes haha. any chance you could do a quick recap of some of our bigger moves/changes this post season so far?
Adam's, thinks we already have a strong top 6 ,he's hoping #77 breaks out ,and he will we need Quinn and Cozens to bring that fun back im not worried we have such a great d ,and it's time to trust them we are stronger than alot think
Such a great D that can't clear out a man from in front of the net, they are hypnotized by the puck in their own zone, while leaving the opponents alone in scoring position. When is owen no power ever going to check some one ?
@@AAA-o4gPower is following in the footsteps of big Sabres defensemen who aren’t physical that fans despise in Buffalo. It’s like a tradition. Bill Hajt, Uwe Krupp, Mike Wilson, Richard Smehlik, Tyler Myers. Personally, I like Power. I’m of the opinion last year was a sophomore slump. He’s got a high hockey IQ. But I get it. At least Dahlin always had a nasty streak. We’ve never seen anything close with Power.
The offensive core ain’t it can’t even make the playoffs lol
@@grumpyscott17 Maybe no power should have played in Rochester to get hit and learn to be physical. He is Not worth 8.35 mil. I wonder what the other D thought when no power signed that contract when THEY have the experience.
Pathetic that our fans are writing off our own team and throwing in the towel. Unbelievable that after all these years so many of our fans have learned absolutely nothing from the failures of Murray and Botterill and want to give up again.
#8 Darryl Shannon
Think Lindy said if he comes back. Skinner is gone.
When would Lindy have said that?
I doubt it. But I bet the Sabres asked the new coach his frank opinion on each Sabres player before the draft. It's no secret. The Sabres needed to get players who are physical and who are harder the play against. We'll see if the new additions help.
The arena upgrades were a part of the Bills Stadium deal the had to get certain things done in order for them to 850 million dollars from the Erie county and the state.
The cap space was to bring in a forward like Martin Necas who refused to sign a deal with Buffalo after a trade.
Short answer "no"
Was Geoff Sanderson #8? Maybe 80 just remember him being pretty darn fast the year of the cup final
5 years with Adams it’s do or die for the guy. I’m a poet and know it.
It’s a mistake to think that way. We are going on season 4 of this current rebuild. Rebuilds take time and he’s doing it right. Firing Adams would be a massive mistake and an unwillingness of our fans to have learned anything from the failures of Murray and Botterill.
@@bjarczyk we are going on a 13 year rebuild the worst in any professional sport. I have every right to rip ownership and the trickled down years of excuses. Liberal ownership who are fans of hockey is all I’ve seen. This wasn’t the organization I fell in love with as a kid. Fans hating on Krebs only shows why no one wants to play in Buffalo. Krebs will do just fine in another organization like all the others. Last year for me I don’t like liberals and DEI woke bs I don’t like cowardly excuses from people who don’t work. This franchise has become softer than toilet paper. Now you going to put it all on Ruff and UPL what a Joke. It’s fucking endless with the Pegulas on the half assed level. Big year for Adams in my book and fan going forward since 88
Last season was pathetic
Forgot that Levi has to be singed next offseason too
Concentrate on the powerplay. Find a couple of forwards who are willing to go to and stay in front of the net. Driven to distraction last season watching the Sabres concentrate on getting the puck to TT on the PP, to no avail. The league has learned to nullify that play.
Everyone wants the BIG SPLASH.. but lets face it.. the biggest names moved this offseason... Stamkos and Marchessault... and both were rumored to be going together and we'd never be in on someone the age of Stamkos... There have not be any big names moved this offseason. Can't blame Adams for not making a deal that was never an option.... They are already closer to the cap than we've seen in a long time... still, having cap space can make a deadline deal happen. Still, right now.. I don't see a big name out there.... say nothing of worth happening...
I’d have to agree with this. Adams said he wanted a 3rd line center, a top 6 forward and to remake the bottom 6 this offseason. He’s done 2 out of the 3 so far. I still have some hope that a top 6 forward will shake loose once teams start trying to get under the cap.
3 Days ago Sabres signed a starting goalie, and there is no podcast about it? Joe, give this podcast to someone who can do it right, Unacceptable!
If anyone thinks Krebs should get anything over 925k you really shouldn’t be around hockey at all he’s a 2nd line AHL player
Anyone know if they will bring back the Goat-heads for the 2024-25 season?
Locked on sabres, your team every 3 or 4 days....
What on earth does that anything to do with the Arena? That has not a thing todo with the cost of the team!!!???? That made in anyway kind of sense 😂🤣😂🤣
UPL arbitration hearing is next Monday, 29th July apparently.
I think we dont see kulich or others breaking the lineup this year, no room for even krebs on this roster right now.
We are trying to set a tone to start the season. Scratch Greenway and Krebs if you bring in Kulich, imo. Let Malenstyn join our fourth line flying around and checking.
UPL at 5.5 is a mistake, contract needs to be moveable.
Best thing Adams can do is be honest and just say too free agents and trade targets like necas this year will not come to Buffalo
Aube kubel maybe scratched or Benson
Yeah if they're freaking stupid they will. You got all these young guys who are going to need contracts and you want to spend to the cap so we can make the playoffs and get eliminated in the first round in five games wasn't that fun. I'm still getting over the Matt trade. That's what happens when you're desperate and you have pressure put on you. I like McCloud but boy Edmonton got stuff Pennies on a dollar. And they even use Canadian money ouch😢
A 2nd for Malenstyn was an overpayment, but that is the Sabres situation right now. Other teams know that the fans are losing their minds because the Sabres have missed the playoffs for 13 years, so they feel emboldened to make excessive offers. Bill Armstrong tried to do it with Chychrun and ended up taking a lesser offer from Ottawa rather than accept a better one (but not the one he wanted) from the Sabres. The trade for Stillman could be viewed that way, although Bloom hasn't hit yet (and may not). Adams has done a good job of building up the system, but he obviously does not have a good poker face when making deals.
Who cares about a 2nd? We don't need anymore prospects
Why does it feel like we're a move or 2 away from REALLY being a contender... and we're NOT gonna make any more moves...
That’s what bothers me because I actually think we have a good team now but add ehlers I think we would be top 3 maybe even just behind Florida it would help that much
We’re not tho lol our core is overated asf Thompson cozens tuch peterka Quinn can’t even make it to the playoffs and yall wanna call them “ close to contending” 😂😂
@@mikemayhem39 well I could be wrong but they are all 22 and a few could have a break out year if cozons has another 40pt season than you are definitely right but if I had to guess cozens Quinn and paterka all have 60 points and a healthy tage is near 75 but I could be wrong
@@nicolasdeperno2000 I hope so but I just don’t see it and now we have a old coach back who’s made the playoffs once the last 5 years sounds great
Because your delusional...
Of course not. Adams has been consistently obsessed with NEXT YEAR. Why on earth do you think the Sabres have been the youngest team in hockey season after season? Adams is unable to spend up to the cap by signing quality veteran free agents anyway, so his favorite excuse is he needs the money for the youngsters coming up NEXT YEAR. 😂😂.
His strategy of doing a rebuild the right way is the only way the Sabres will ever win a cup. Not by overpaying free agents.
a cap team with this roster lol
Oh it has to be Mike Foligno. Dumont couldn't hold a candle to Mike
I'd take Foligno over JP Dumont. But Dumont was miserable to play against as well. The Sabres missed him when he left.
The Sabres rehired a coach they fired because he couldn't win the important games, got rid of players they shouldn't have and signed players that do nothing to bring the team to the next level. There is a 99.9% chance they will hit AT LEAST fourteen years in a row and when that happens...I will give up on 150 years of cheering for sabres incompetence. I'm tired of being embarrassed to tell people who my team is. They don't care about winning so I'll quit spending money to watch and support them. It's beyond excusable for an organization to be this incompetent.
Our organization has actually become extremely competent and created a remarkable culture with the players. It is our fans who just need to get with the program.
You're over 150 years old? So say you were 9 or 10 when you started watching hockey..... that puts your birth at around the time of the Civil War? Absolutely remarkable!
