lol marcus tuning the tom while playing 1:48 -- altering his sonic landscape to fit the energy of the performance -- genius player best of a generation
Mark Turner Quartet Budapest Jazz Club "BJC" 2014. 11. 12. Mark Turner - saxophone, Avishai Cohen - trumpet, Joe Martin - double-bass, Marcus Gilmore - drums
Can someone explain to me whats going on? Is Joe hitting the 1 & 4 (feeling it in 6/8) and Marcus is using Joe's 8th notes as his 1/4 note? What about the melody?

it`s 4 over 3...quartuplets (is it the right english word?)..and the 4 are the temporary quarters. this way the harmonic rhythm stays the same
i guess if you're going to tune the tom it might as well be in the beginning of the first song
