I recall few years back when I make a comment about one othe governor flashing up an airport construction in one of the Eastern state. I asked why isn't this money been used for rail construction which both poor and rich can use, guess what almost of the Easterners came all out for me on that comment. But here we are today waste of resources

The construction of Airports is a sign of economic prosperity out there. But, in Nigeria, it's a political and stupidity oriented. It's rather unfortunate.

@@jonahigbokwe394 Not having a national airline has also contributed to the downfall of nigerian airports. In the 70s and 80s, these airports were viable because nigerian airways made frequent flights to them. In those days, i flew to Kaduna airport, makurdi and enugu airports and saw planes coming in and departing daily thanks to nigerian airways.

Subsidizing is the major problem in Nigeria. It breeds tolerance for incompetence and encourages unfit people to thrive in offices that should be beyond their station.

What is Nigeria's obsession with building airports? Every governor wants to build an airport. 4 airports account for 95% of passengers of about 35 airports. After spending over $30 million by Enugu, the federal government had to control.

Only MMIA and NAIA commercially viable. Portharcourt is just international by name. Neither Lufthansa nor Qatarr Airways flies into portharcourt International Airport from any foreign country. They first stop over at Abuja both in and out of the country. MAKIA does not have traffic like portharcourt.

That is the fault of the nigerian govt. You can't give in to the desires of all international airlines to operate at only certain airports. Let them fly in and out of Nigeria using other nigerian airports.

It doesn't work that way. The government cannot make any airline fly to a particular airport. It's all about the bottom line for airlines. They do feasibility studies, if they think having direct flights to a particular airport will be profitable for them, they would fight tooth and nail to get landing rights at that airport.

Each country has rules airlines must follow, dictating the cities where airlines fly to is not one of those rules. So no. It's only in your imagination that it is done in other countries. The Nigerian government telling Delta, BA, etc that they must fly to some obscure airports in the hinterland "ain't" happening.

Nigeria has at least 5 that i am aware of, namely - Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Port-harcourt and Enugu airports. There was a time Ilorin airport was also an international airport. Maybe it is no more recognised as one. If the airlines don't accept it, they can stay out. Too much Fx is leaving Nigeria through them anyway..🤔

What do you expect almost every governor owns or flies in a private jet across the country, of course they will even want airports in their backyard, that is what you get in a country where there is no accountability, things are just done hapharzardly without any recourse to logic, where governirs prefer building flyovers in preferenve to human capital development

The cronies are working with you at the major airports. Watch your back as you want to do the right things. Most government workers gain and get their illegal money when things are not working right.
