2024 SSI Updates: What you need to know! (Good news!)
Вставка

- In March of 2024, the Social Security Administration made some updates to how SSI payments are calculated - and these changes can benefit people who depend on these monthly payments to get by!
SSI, or Supplemental Security Income, helps people who are not able to work due to a disability. The rules regarding how these payments are calculated can get complicated. They just became a little easier though!
In this video, Ellen will discuss how SSI payments are calculated, what new changes have been made for 2024, and what to expect if you or someone you love is receiving these payments.
PLEASE NOTE: In this video we use the California SSI number of $1183/month; the federal amount is $943/month, and some states (including California) supplement this very low amount.

@pamelawashington6357 califotnia state pays extra 239.94
$943 is ALL I GET! We are Poor as 💩
S.S.A. has to send you a letter stating if you'll be getting a increase or decrease on your benefits. That's how it works.
When are they gonna increase SSI payments?
Soon I hope! But given politics these days, it’s probably unlikely.
Until they run out
Jamuary 2024 will be the Raise will not no the amount mid- October 2024 most all other imformation is fake news on Ytube.
With rent food and groceries so high. SSI maximum should be at least $1200 $1300 these days. It's hard living off off $900. It's just not enough.
I know right!! And they hardly give you any food stamps either, all I get is $165 a month😧
Where do you get this that people are getting $1,100 SSI people in Alabama don't get with $943 so I don't know where you're getting your information you must be out there in California somewhere but we don't get that
I believe she’s talking about California
I'm in Cali get 1300 a month I started with 840 the yrs gone by it went up with the cola
The $2000 asset limit for single/$3200 married needs to be raised to count for inflation!!! HUD needs to change the rule that the whole distribution from Special Needs Trust counts as income to calculate monthly rent payments from the tenant . Since I work not receiving Social Security or Medicaid I decided not to create a Special Needs Trust to receive my $325,000 inheritance. I been in HUD Permanent Supportive Housing program before receiving my inheritance. I chose to received the inherited assets in my name since the assets do not count against being in HUD housing. I am am lucky to have a disability and not be shackled with stupid government asset and income limit rules!!!
I totally agree! I think the SSI asset limit should be substantially increased (or maybe even eliminated)!
How is that? My son is deseable and I want to rent my house to him but I can’t. I live in North Carolina. I will give to him free but I have to pay a mortgage. I am retired and 77 years old.
943. I wish I could get that much.
It doesn't go far especially trying to pay bills and food and gas. And then ur broke..,..
Dam 😂

When
Hello.i get SSI of 943 a month would that change
No, these changes don’t impact the amount of SSI one receives monthly; though that number increases slightly each year.
That messed up 😮
I don't know where they getting this info my rent is 889 my check is only 943.00 you do the math they not helping nothing or the people smh
You have to live in CA to get the extra money. The state provides an extra 239.00
Great info, thanks. After some searching, I was able to find the SSA press releases and Federal Register links for the topics you discussed. It may be helpful to include these links in your description for others to reference on the complete details of the law changes and impacted time frame.
Great suggestion, thank you
Thank you for a very informative video. Since last July Ssi in Placervill CA , reduced $300 dollars of my mom’s check just because she lives in a special zip code. I helped her to appeal the case twice but they rejected her request twice. She has to deal with credit card debt now because of not receiving $300 monthly 😱
I think Ssi should check some of the branches and help some of the very vulnerable people in the area.
I don't get that much
Great video !!! You forgot to include that the shelter you receive from a nonprofit is exempt from the $344.00, also any energy assistance you receive from a nonprofit is exempt from that list.
I only get SSI 943 a month. I never ever saw a 1000 on my SSI check my rent 850.00 and nobody else helps me with rent food or transportation or mycell phone.i am beyond poor Pennsylvania is always left out of any financial help.
I don’t know how this channel doesn’t have a million subscribers
I am supposed to inherit the house I live in. The yearly property tax is around $10,000. So if I got SSI, I would only have around $4,000 left, for the year??? What if my brother succeeds in stealing all my inheritance money? Where else can I get money? 😭😭
Rent out a room
@@leaannshook7207 I’ve thought of that. The problem is, he’s also trying to steal my house- and if he’s the landlord, I guarantee he won’t allow anyone but me to live there ☹️ But even if I owned it, I’ve heard creepy stories of renters who refuse to leave. The renters laws are so strong, some people have been unable to kick a person out of their own home!!! So I don’t want to risk that 😱
That sounds like a difficult situation. I usually recommend that parents leave cash along with a property to pay for property taxes, upkeep of the property, etc. Hopefully you’ll inherit more funds for these purposes.
I promise to be there for you and you will not be disappointed in the medical records and disability claim I will do everything you ask or tell me to do God bless you
hope, I can receive help. I was told I'm already maxed out because I'm already retired.
Your amazing, I only wish you where in my state.
Thank you! This means a lot to me.
What about Texas is it the same where you are talking about
PS. If I do receive a chunk of inheritance money, can I open the special needs trust myself? (for me to use). My mom is already senile, so it’s too late for her to set that up.
I surely haven't gotten an over payment.. also $943. 00. I could use that 1.083. a month ..
Yes, you should be able to create your own 1st party Special Needs Trust to protect your public benefits; I describe it in this video: How to Receive an Inheritance While on Public Benefits
@@ellencookman-EstatePlanningSNT Thank you!
No , 😮
Please send me the link for the application interview and see me through it that would be the best support for this clam that I have for you
I got SSI in 1990 when I was 21 and that is the only money I get which where I live is $998.04 a month
In what state do you get up to $1,183? I thought the max is $943?
In this video we use the California SSI number of $1183/month; the federal amount is $943/month, and some states (including California) supplement this very low amount.
What city and state do i go to if i get to receive 1183 cause 943 is such BS.

Ur sons adorable ❤
Can you get ssi if you are receiving ss ?
Usually you can get additional SSI if your SSDI amount is under the SSI limit - in CA that’s $1,182.
I ONLY FET $460 IN SSI BENEFITS 😢
AND $560 SSDI
Hmmm.... I don't know about this.
Can I move out of the USA and still receive said???
I don’t think so; you need to be a resident of that state to receive the benefits. But the other country might have their own benefits you can utilize.
They need to increase the COLA amounts for SSA retirement recipients!!!
I want to know who gets $1,100 a month too cuz I'm in Ohio and I only get 943...
943 i get
I LIVE IN CHEYENNE WYOMING
I wish I could get just a little. Me and my wife only bring in 1943.00 a month through Social security. We are broke
So many promises and we still suffering how can you pay $334 for rent if the rent is $1,300 serious honestly I never heard to good to be true🙏🏽
I don't know anybody who's getting $1,100 a month I think you're lying to us
😂😂😂😂 a big lie or a little lie 🤔
Who is this person and where on earth did she get her info?
Every word she is saying is she just pulling this stuff out of the blue?
If I got 1100 dollars a month I would be dancing in the street!
They messed up mine and said I had earned income when I have not worked since 1994 so they cut my check to 820$ a month saying I owe 17000$ months hence there’s no way in hell and I do not have no earned income and can not get no one to straighten it out I have no money for a lawyer..
RayRichmond
If you take on my case you won't be disappointed 😊
WHAT??????
When I got my first SSI back in 1988 all I received was $243.00 a month now they're give more than when I received mine. I the presidents should give us what's owed back all those years .. so.$700 x so is $25,200 per year they owe us.. it took 36 yrs to get not even close to $1,320 a month. Doesn't sound right, all congress and us Treasury needs go back to school!
Try 700$
Shouldn't be making videos on ssi when u know nothing about it
You keep saying 1100 a month but in reality most people with SSI only get $943 a month . Meanwhile rent water electric gasoline food all this had skyrocketed but the payment for SSI is only 943. After my quadriplegic son's bills are all paid he's got a whopping $110 for food a month. How pathetic
Like everybody else's videos just more bulshit
They just took my Cola away
full bull you lies you need 2.500 aom in the us wtf sum DEM s not aus 2.000 a om wtf and it is 1.161 a om in ny not nyc i see new and git 1.161 in ny
