I've always hated the argument 'oh but they give money to charity!' like they're supposed to be smart people, they could literally buy the rainforest or create jobs with livable wages and open animal shelters. But of course its easier to write a cheque and pat themselves on the back for being a good person for doing basically the same for them as us dropping some change into a charity box.
There's been a saying online about how billionaires shouldn't be a thing. That if you can't live off of $999 million dollars, there is no hope for you.
Also, I wouldn't mind billionaires yeeting themselves off the planet if they stayed GONE.
My heart goes out to you if you can't sustain yourself for 999 mil....

@@tomascabral9050 not really. Think of all the small businesses and local economies that have been crushed by these enormous businesses. Those more localized businesses create and sustain way more jobs than the mega corporations. Big businesses create big wealth by reducing the number of employees they need to run and paying them shit.
They can live how they want your just jealous of them being able to get rich

Even Carl Sagan said that manned space travel had outlived its usefulness. It's just grandstanding, and a way to create drama in a bored world.

Great video and very thorough research, Gittemary! The idolization of billionaires, especially for making it with "hard work" and then treating them as saints for giving back to charities for tax purposes - makes so sad for people who look up to those billionaires.
Luckily there are people who see through the bs. However, to me it seems the more wealth you gather, the less you care about the community. Those who despise billionaires, in the event of becoming one themselves, would they still have accountability for themselves? I really do hope so.

I did not think it was wonderful fascinating etc when it was announced what they were doing and in fact I found it down right disgusting in reference to the "little boy" going in to outer space, I had to laugh when he said it was a life long dream.. OMG! he hasn't even lived long enough yet to have life long dreams geez. No I'm not jealous have absolutely no desire to go to outer space, heck I don't even have a desire to go on a plane (never have) what I do have a desire for is that $25 million could have built more than one animal sanctuary for the unwanted abandoned dogs across this country.. that's my "Life Long Dream" not burning money. I personally feel the way you do...I only need a roof over my head, food to eat, just enough money for my needs, and a few inexpensive desires to make life fun! Security and freedom is all I want. If I ever won the lottery and got millions of dollars, I would give most of it away. ♥
All I wanna do is live in the country/rural side, farm my land sustainably and feed my community. I was really touched hearing you, Gitte talk about living just to get by. Like people think that it is impassionate, boring, or like ascetic. Like no that's not the case. I just don't want to hoard more than I need. Yes, thanks! I always wondered about this. Very frequently I see people idolising billionaires as being insanely wealthy is ultimate success goal. And I get it a bit, some billionaires have had great innovative ideas that average person wouldn't be able to think of but this is where my admiration ends. Exploitation of others, unrealistic level of materialism associated with extreme wealth, impact on the environment... I don't understand these are rarely a concern for vast majority. I wish becoming billionaire was possible by ethical practices that don't involve aforementioned issues but as long as we get this attitude that wealth is the ultimate index of success and something to strive for and also the attitude that you don't get to succeed by being nice we are all allowing the rich to use and exploit us for their gain. On the matter of space travel, from what I understand people think it's cool and innovative and stuff. Again it probably is but is extremely unnecessary (talking about commercial flights just for fun, I'm not a physicist, space researcher or such to understand how we can benefit from exploring space fully so I'm not bashing the whole industry) and in current climate of environmental crisis and other major issues, it really is quite cruel to splash on 10 minute experience in space. I get the feeling some billionaires have so much and have experienced whatever they please here that earth is not enough anymore. I hear people saying it's their money and they can do what they want and unfortunately it's true but questioning the narrative regarding excessive wealth, its ethics and impact is necessary. Hope one day will be able to have sustainable progress and ethical wealth.

I think it is also important to talk about the environmental impact of billionaires' excessive consumption on Earth (like multiple houses, cars, walk in closets, yachts, private jets, etc) as well as the impact they have by driving the consumption of average people who strives to achieve the luxury lifestyle they constantly exposed to in traditional and social media.

Excellent video! I don’t think it’s an accident that wealthy people (fictional and non) are so disproportionately represented in media. Could it be that the uber rich owners of these media companies are pushing a product that leads us to empathize with them? They’ve made the world docile to protect themselves from us.

I love space (have a BSc in Astronomy levels of love space) and would be keen to fly into space one day, however I am not pro billionaires, the exploited everyone and everything, and space junk is (and becoming a bigger) problem that needs to be addressed
I think if there was a cap on how much money you could make, billionaires would just put their money other places to avoid that.
