Most of these are difficult to practice because they fundamentally disfavor individual survival which is the root of all wanting. In other words, survival is not meant be for true happiness, but for owning and greed.
Learning to be humble and need little makes it easier to take care of our basic physical and material needs. It's something we can learn and cultivate, and, by doing so, we have more ability to live in contentment from within, a true gift we can then share with others as it is great wisdom, and others are attracted to us as they sense it. It'll be different for each individual I reckon and it would depend on the nature of the person who is facing homelessness, and also their perspective on life.. Some people, even amidst great adversity will be open to discovering the blessing if they have had mindfulness training and insight into the impermanent nature of life.. People who are absolutely bound up in materialism may well be in shock and not open to any possibility of embracing it there and then.. "Is there anything I can do to help you right now?" would be a useful thing to say.
