@@RamonaMcKean Yes, I love Tara Brach and her satsang meetings on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. I am finding that I am spending a good amount of time, nearly each day on UA-cam, listening to past Buddhist teachings given by Jack Kornfield, and really growing to appreciate his wisdom, his humor and his humanity. Thank goodness for the presentation of these teachings, and those of Tara Brach, on UA-cam. Take good care!
Kornfield I never listened to him considering him to be typical new age author from marin. I've given up that judgement thankfully. Now I see Jack as an authentic Buddhist teacher. he never hesitates while teaching. IMO that's because he not only is living this for many years..more like he is what he's teaching. that's rare these days.
It's a beautiful quote, however the actual quote is hatred never ceases by hatred but by non-hatred. This is the ancient and eternal love. That's the actual quote from the Dhammapada. Love isn't mentioned in it. Still, nice saying.
@@JasonGafar My version says "For hate is not conquered by hate; hate is conquered by love. This is a law eternal." That could just be a Westernization of the actual saying in the original Pali, as hatred/non hatred sounds far more Buddhist, and hate/love sounds far more Judeo-Christian.
Jack Kornfield has given us much wisdom; however, there is more. Meditation is great to quiet the mind during meditation, however, it has its limitations. Spinoza, a 17th-century philosopher, gives us a method to strengthen our mind and live in clarity and truth. The power of understanding thyself leads to freedom from childhood trauma, negative emotions and can become a new reality.
This content is beyond compare. A book I read with a similar theme was irreplaceable. "Rising From Within: Unlocking Your Innate Power to Conquer Adversity" by Vincent Starling
Jack's clarifications around how to live a wise life and practice mindful leadership are welcome additions to the field. Here'e a brief reading that we've done from his book: ua-cam.com/video/9oVHQOSgeQ4/v-deo.html
He said that this supreme court justice guy goes on 90% how he feels about something. He said that's humourous. More like terrifying. Our lives are in the hands of men (and women) with immense power who decide our fate based on how they feel about it at the time.
After so long I still suffering some resentment specially towards family. In times of elections this feeling gets stronger due to the fascism going on here for a good amount of time. Resentment towards what I was thought in the school about a certain country in the middle east that I found out did the exact opposite in history...anyway...I wonder what a budhist wiseman would tell me to help me appease, relief from this negative affect.
I wonder if I could perform the loving kindness meditation for my torturer ... eventually look into his eyes and find a beautiful soul behind it... I'm not being sarcastic and/or ironic here... I'm dam serious. I've been practicing meditation and studying many diferent streams of budhism along the last years and still not found an answer for that. Cause we know that in some cases people doing something realy terrible they are not actually mentally , so to speak, disturbed but on the contrary, they believe they are doing something for the good and well being of their country, family, whatever. And in the same day someone can do something so terrible with another human being, they arrive at home at night and tenderly kiss their kids, wife and dog,,,like a nazi - or any other ideology and denomination at a concentration camp ... So I was thinking aloud while listening to Jack and decided to share this thought. Thanks if you feel like comenting. ( sorry the mistakes cause english is not my native language )
People who torture are narcissistic or psychopaths. You need to protect yourself, get help and get away if possible. Use your energy for yourself sweetheart...love yourself. ❤
So stockmarket is the tempel and successful broker have to be mindful. When successful economical leaders are mindful then why is our world such a mess?
I read one book of him and liked it. But I saw today two videos of him about "meditation in progress" and I was not really impressed. He is not really a good meditationteacher.
When he said our beloved sage Albert Einstein I lost interest just because he wasn't the father of physics egyptians were. I don't consider him my teacher because I don't have a PHD in science that is not relative and caucasians are in my lineage. An I am a buddhist !!!
He seems extremely fidgety and nervous.. constantly picking up the pen for no reason, taking off his watch for no reason, constantly stroking his fingers etc... you'd have thought for someone so experienced he'd be more at ease and still at this point, be interesting to get his insight on to how he's feeling during this talk
I believe many Buddhist teachers would say that there are no guarantees of results of meditation. I have sat with teachers in North America and in temples in Asia, all with different actions, movements, tics, etc. All are teachers that are human, inseparable from the causes and conditions of their births and social context. Also, who knows what is happening there in that auditorium that is affecting the flow of words, and Kornfield's response, as they arise in that moment? All of these may indicate the aliveness of the teachings rather than a memorized, canned speech about a commodified cure-all, as many portray meditation.
I love both of them, they are talking about the same thing in a different way, I think Thay would love Kornfield's talk. I know Thich Nhat Hanh wrote about Jack's The wise heart book (that I relly like just like Thay's books)- "Jack Kornfield is a wonderful storyteller and a great teacher." Peace
Thank You Beautiful Jack Kornfield for Your Love and Kindness.
I could listen to this man for hours. Always a deep sense of peace while I am present with him here. 💕😊
God, I so deeply and profoundly respect, and admire this man and his words of wisdom. One of my heroes, actually.
Me too!
I feel the same way about Jack Kornfield. Tara Brach is very dear too. They are both so kind and generous with their compassionate and wise teachings.
Same.

Far from it!
Nice to be surprised isn't it
17:24 Hatred never ceases by hatred, but by love alone is healed. This is the ancient and eternal law.

Amazing - no less than NINETEEN persons gave your unintelligible comment a "thumbs-up". :-|
Reverend, why the hostility?
@@orangelo13 Yes I doubt he's a reverend. A true reverend does not speak like this. Imposter.
Teachers point the way, yes. But it doesn't matter unless we find the same intelligence and wisdom within ourselves to become what was spoken.
Thank You Jack Kornfield, you come in.
Gratitude fills my heart & Mind. May each take away the essence of the need of our being.
What you said really gave me peace.

Thank you. Calming. Just want to clarify...no the church does not say the body is bad(if some do, I am sorry) It is the temple of God to be cared for.
If you cannot be with yourself no matter what, how can you possibly be there for anyone else ?
Thanks
Its not about the future of humanity its about the presence of eternity
God help me to be like Jack

Just wondering how he thinks of Ang San Suu Kyi today? talking about "icons" does not sound very Buddhist to me.
He probably greatly disapproves and is disappointed with her leadership as we all are. What’s your point, Bing?
