I did paint one that a store give it to me for free, then I did understand why everyone is a loyalist. Chaos warrior in the other hand are a joy to paint. Only the varanguard and chaos chosen have the same lvl of trim but since they are elit you dont need to do as many....in 40k every single chaos marine unit has a ton of trim
Thanks guys. Very fun conversation and the honesty about previous painting projects is good to hear for me. I will give myself some grace on my projects too. We are all learning here.
I wasn't going to click on the video but then I did and now I'm watching it after I clicked it. I will probably click on more of your videos after having clicked this one. And then I will most likely watch those videos that I click on
The trick to quickly painting CSM with all the trim, is to just not paint all the trim. Be selective on where the trim gets painted to pull out certain things.
Great topic! I always have to remind myself to look at my model (particularly a test model) on the tabletop, out from under the painting light, to get a real sense for how NOT bright my model is, and how much further I need to push it. PS. Ill take that SM half off you, Jon. ; )
Instead of doing test schemes I have two strategies for liking my paint schemes: Flatting - this is a super quick step of roughly basecoating everything. All the paint is on the palette for this and I am planning my paint scheme as I go. If I don't like something I slap another colour on because it's all there for me. I don't worry about coverage, though I do try to make sure I cover all the primer so later I don't have any white peaking out. DGAF - There is only one reason to insist on a consistent paint scheme - because you've decided you want to. All other reasons are wrong. If you play historicals you'll find that every army had uniform variations, especially active militaries in an active conflict. So, there is no "realism" reason to do this. My Infinity army, each unit has a differently sculpted uniform. Instead of trying to match everyone, I just try to incorporate some key colours and rules of colour placement. Sometimes it doesn't look the best, but whatever, just paint the next model and see if you can do better rather than go back and redo an existing model. So yes, if it's important to have a perfectly consistent perfect paint scheme for you, go for it. Your models, your rules. If it isn't important but somehow you think it is supposed to be so you're going along with it, be free my sibling. Your model, your rules. We'll be playing our games with our fully painted armies against the half-painted gray hordes who's owners are still trying to figure out their colour scheme 3 years after starting the army.
Scott, there is a wicked Deldar Kabalite Killteam that would probably make an awesome starting off point for your Deldar army! Lots of unique bits in that kit, plus you could use it in games of Killteam!
Regarding the dark eldar, I think it's the sculpts. I bet that color scheme would look sweet with some other 3d prints amd sculpts you can find online.
I have 4 chaos space marine armies, they really don’t paint up fast. I’ve gotten very fast at painting trim down to like 10-15 minutes per most infantry, but really that’s just from all my practice.
PP's 3d printed models have changed a lot since Adepticon! In fact, many of the points (should be darker, should be better cleaner, etc.) have actually been addressed by PP. Would be really cool to see you guys do a video about the newer printed models, I think.
I think the issue with those yellow Deldar is they're too clean. When I think of why dark eldar pirates would choose to use yellow armour I go to "I want to you see me coming and shit yourself" so they should be terrifying! Red markings in blood over the armour and some weathering would really lift them to how they should be
Weapons break less when they are stronger, since every weapon breaks after X hits (although X will change) and a stronger weapon will kill more enemies before they break since they take less hits to kill.
So Hasbro/Heroscape/Heroquest... Yeah, they did their "not Kickstarter" for Heroquest, and it all went through pretty nicely. Still being supported with classic expansions getting updates, but now also adding new content too. The minis are a bit like the soft Zombicide minis (probably a step up), but they are 32mm scale, so they're more forgiving in terms of the detail. They did also have to redo the aesthetic and names to get away from the Games Workshop Warhammer setting. Heroscape then also went into their "not Kickstarter" and they did, indeed, fuck it up. I think the main issue was they had a single tier, which was a remake of all the OG content, so was just stupid expensive, and so it failed. It'll be interesting to see what they do to change things.
Lol it always makes me think of Hotshots 2: Thai fighter dips wraps in glue, screws and glass - Charlie Sheen dips his in caramel, gummybears and sprinkles.😂
It's a bit of a personal thing, but thinking about the psychology of color, yellow is associated with happiness. And it just feels not as drukhari to me. Drukhari has been my main project for the last 3 years and I've done dark colors as my main colors and bright saturated spot colors. I think it suits Drukhari well. Imagine Vince doing this with his 16 armies hahaha
this the first time I've watched the podcast on UA-cam (usually an audio listener). Does Scott usually do the show with no pants on? Gotta' pan that camera up a little bit, buddy...almost got a shot of those sweet breads. LoL
pp has changed their resin recently its better and a darker colour like john suggested its also a lot more durable (i yeeted my fully painted khador army of my desk nothing broke), i still think its a little too expensive for 3d printed minis
Tears of the Kingdom weapon system is way better. You get monster horns from killing monsters that can be attached to any weapon. So you just collect the weapon type you want, and customize it. The weapon's base stats don't mean as much as what you attach to it.
Thank you for stressing how painting under bright lights then placing it in regular light is disappointing. It's a thing I've been trying to crack. More guidance here would be well received, I think.
My painting lamp helps me with this. It has three light modes: blue, yellow, and white, with three intensities for each. I'll just switch my lamp from white to yellow and set it down on my desk.
Diablo 1-2 had skills that had nothing to do with your character class, with ability to use any skill. Example sorcs that can turn into bears or paladins that can teleport. Diablo 4 is a 5 button masher with bad items that give you nothing. Also diablo plays perfectly fine on controller, i disputed this until trying it and its far better with controller
I love the TUP but pleeeez move the Mike's coz half the time what we see is two eyes one nose and a big black pacifier that you could be sucking on. This is the only channel where we see it. I'm only bitchin because my hearing is pretty bad I don't actually read lips but it makes it easier to understand what you say when I can see your lips. Surely the mics will pick up you voices from six inches lower. But as I said I love the content.
Looking back on the stuff I painted … it all looks too dark. Like - do acrylic paints DARKEN over time or what?? It might be coz my light it too bright - that’s one thing - so to remedy this, I wish I had painted in brighter base colors.
The trick to painting chaos space marines fast is just knowing that you can't and reveling in your chosen pain.
It will make you stronger brother (do the trim first)
I did paint one that a store give it to me for free, then I did understand why everyone is a loyalist.

Remember, the flagon with the dragon is the lotion with the potion, and the vessel with the pestle is the brew that is true.
John: worries about his thoughts being broadcast on the podcast unfiltered.
5 minutes and a hit of smelling salts later. . .
John: Dongs.
Thanks guys. Very fun conversation and the honesty about previous painting projects is good to hear for me. I will give myself some grace on my projects too. We are all learning here.
That Cobra Mode Rabbit is BAD ASS. Such a great model painted so well.
seeing that paint job/video, got me to purchase that STL :D
I wasn't going to click on the video but then I did and now I'm watching it after I clicked it. I will probably click on more of your videos after having clicked this one. And then I will most likely watch those videos that I click on
You guys have just reminded me of California man , remember going to the cinema to see that in my youth
Yellow Dark Elder would look sick if you contrasted them with black like wasps, with black organic spots breaking up that yellow a bit.
My buddy has tyranids in that scheme, and they look awesome as a hoard on the table.
I look forward to the updates on the shelves as I have the same issue for lighting them and I am not sure how to do it yet. Good luck! 😁
How much Scott rubs his leg at the end of the sponsor video had me cracking up. Thank you guys for all yall do for the hobby
Yeah. He is really rubbing one out.
LOL so now I can't unsee it.
Bahahahaha
I’d 100% buy the Ninjon face shirt that said “I watch alien stuff sometimes” in comic sans… I’m not even kidding.
As someone who's painted 3 Heldrakes, they're a trim first model.
Ohh man you have my respect I have 2 u boxed and every time I look at them I think "Damn those are cool...Damn that's a lot of trim...." 😅
After binge watching every TUP episode, now I feel lost having to wait every 2 weeks like a peasant..
My deathguard Bloat Drone took 22 hours to paint (including building) 😅
If you plan to paint the wires, use something like ‘Plastidip’, it’s flexible and pretty forgiving for stuff like that that might have to bend.
The trick to quickly painting CSM with all the trim, is to just not paint all the trim. Be selective on where the trim gets painted to pull out certain things.

what a perfectly timed refresh
Honestly when it comes to chaos trim, I just colour it in with a metalic sharpie. Few layers and it's golden, literally 😂
Regarding the dark eldar, I think it's the sculpts. I bet that color scheme would look sweet with some other 3d prints amd sculpts you can find online.
Thank you for pronouncing Oregon correctly jon.
Oshkosh sounds like a cutsie stationary store
Scott: "Black and Tan would be so cool"
Well, it would definitely be appropriate for an evil faction.
I have 4 chaos space marine armies, they really don’t paint up fast. I’ve gotten very fast at painting trim down to like 10-15 minutes per most infantry, but really that’s just from all my practice.
For Scott’s dark elder maybe tiger stripe camouflage might be really interesting?

That makes me hopeful! I'll check them out again.
Banana boys need to start out green

Terp andher plerstiks 🔥🔥🔥🥰👊🍻
48 hours sounds like how you should time yourself to paint just one model, with the standard Chaos models. lol
Weapons break less when they are stronger, since every weapon breaks after X hits (although X will change) and a stronger weapon will kill more enemies before they break since they take less hits to kill.
The best tip I have for Chaos is to basecoat the model the color of the trim, then fill in the panels instead of doing the other way around.
So Hasbro/Heroscape/Heroquest...

Ninjas and Assassins ARE the best in every game ever. Though I often dual classed as Ninja/Wizard in D&D 😊
Ofc ofc. Need that illusion spell to walk around like anyone and invis/teleport to be a true master!
Frankly I can't believe Privateer press still exists after the Warmahordes 3.0 disaster.
Great stuff friends 👏 👍
TUP needs to come to Australia
Littraly repainting my gaurd army RN 😂😂
OMG bloodsport is dark VanDamm. Must watch.
Lol it always makes me think of Hotshots 2: Thai fighter dips wraps in glue, screws and glass - Charlie Sheen dips his in caramel, gummybears and sprinkles.😂
DIABLO 4 ROCKS!!
Jon - where are you finding Code Red Zero? I have never seen it here in the northeast
Our local grocery store and Walmart have it!
Having lived in Oregon for a bit I can say for certain Fla-gone, O-re-gone. lol
I believe people from Oregon pronounce it "ore gan"
(Which still doesn't rhyme with flagon) .
Or something.
Good work

I can imagine the yellow drukhari with no changes, but add new pink and teal cyberpunk bases
Comment on opening of podcast (which is all I intend to watch): Saskatchewan rhymes and scans much better than Oregon.
Oh shit yah that does work!
You should use a banana spider scheme.
I need to know what Scott’s shirt says/means. It looks like the band Death’s logo but says Dizza?
It says Pizza! You are right in that it's based on the Death logo
Ugh ok I see it now: Pizza!
This sure took a detour through Slayer’s War Ensemble. ;)
Ahh man I'm like 3mins in and already Fkn hyped. Love this sht man 👊
Cool as always. 👍

Scott and John, do you have information anywhere for sponsorship? Thanks!
Scott...where did you get that shirt?!
Sizzle Pie in Portland!
I wonder if Jon knows that every new season in D4 requires you to start a new character to play a la Path Of Exile?
Or Diablo 3...
Of course! But I have the map uncovered and all the alters of Lilith found!

💯
I'm 14 minutes in and still don't know if Scott is naked from the waist down or not.
Diablo is a poop game. Always has been 😂 shots fired
Two Midwesterners saying Oregon was great 😂 Oregon and flagon rhymes lol. Great video 👍
Diablo 1-2 had skills that had nothing to do with your character class, with ability to use any skill. Example sorcs that can turn into bears or paladins that can teleport. The warmahordes 3d prints pictures have not inspired confidence, and the whole rollout of mk 4 has been shaky, imo.
"life spent in mediocrity is a life wasted" big words from a guy who's too scared to do Golden Demon. 😂😂😂
I dont repaint. I give away and buy again. 😊 Too much work.
Damn, 2nd...
Just remember 2nd place is the first loser. So you're still first at something. 😄
