The total amount of aid to Ukraine is nearing half a trillion $/EUR. The results so far are not good for Ukraine. Destroyed infrastructure, losses in hundreds of thousands, half the population fled the country and many others are still trying to. @@Ray-555 yeah the thing is though, taking Kyiv and across to Lviv is pointless. Taking Kharkiv and Odessa and just a little further west across the line to fully have all of the Donbass region has some net value to Russia, but the rest doesn’t.
So keeping that in mind, the end goal is a lot closer than it would seem if you assumed all of Ukraine was the goal.
Not that Odessa for example wouldn’t be a huge mission that takes a long time and many lives etc.
But yeah occupying a large area of strongly anti Russian people and governing them through secret police etc just wouldn’t be worthwhile for Russia. The economic gains wouldn’t add up even. And basically Kharkiv and Odessa are the two major remaining areas with strategic value.

I read the novel long time ago and at present I am listening to it on audiobook and have just reached this very part of "Goldstein`s book".

Expectations that the U.S. will be able to resolve artillery shell and air defense missile shortages by throwing more money at the problem is not realistic at all and we found this out two years ago with news of the real rates of U.S. artillery, ammunition and missile production. The U.S. defense production system is not oriented to high volumes of lower value items, but low volumes of high-cost units along with a lifetime of maintenance and logistics support with upgrades.
The U.S. aside, Europe is in no financial position economically to deal with the Ukrainian crisis over the long term either.
They’ve got their own problems now as a result of this crisis and try to come back economically and politically and regain the quality of life that they had before. But right now, Europe’s in a recession. They’ve cut off their energy sources. And it’s going to take a long time and a lot of capital to regain some semblance of that. What they had before they will not be able to replicate on any near-term basis. Europe has got its problems, and the U.S. has got its problems, and they are trying to resuscitate a dead dog (Zelensky regime.)
Dream on. Do yourself a favor and compare the GDP of Russia compared to any major European country. Then look at Americas GDP. If Europe or the US get serious RU is finished - quickly. If they don't get serious RU is finished slowly...

A percentage between 60 - 70 percent of the military equipment which uses these shells is already destroyed. The loss of 169 M777 howitzers, 26 KRAB self-propelled howitzers, 6 PZH 2000, 8 Caesar, 3 Archer, 18 M109 Paladin and a lot more of other types are already confirmed. How much of this 13.8 billion will be spent only on the shell and how much will be spent on military equipment?? We are only talking about artillery, tanks, ordinary things, if we also take into account the anti-aircraft defense equipment... this money are just dust on a drum...

But you miss what op here said about production. Russia is out producing all of America and Europe combined for artillery shells by 5 to 1. They aren’t set up to scale up even within a few years. Years which Ukraine doesn’t have.
Yes I think if America said ok we’re willing to spend half a trillion dollars this year then sure they could spin up factories by the end of the year with that dedication of resources. But they aren’t willing to do that. Look at what the 61 billion USD they just passed after maybe most of a year. Most of that is fluff. How many actual artillery rounds will be delivered in the next few months? Unclear as yet but it’s seeming so far like not enough. And even if it’s a reasonable dump of artillery shells immediately and then a pause while America rebuilds those reserves, which is the best Ukraine can help for, will it be enough to exceed the amount Russia has? Probably not unless they fire them all in a month or two and are then screwed again after that.
Given how little and how late America is now delivering equipment, Ukraine logically should use everything as sparingly as they can. Which simply allows them to slow down Russian’s advance. It doesn’t allow them to push Russia back across their borders. They need so much more for that.
So in that case what’s the long term result?
Politically it looks like this bill went through just to make sure Ukraine doesn’t have some obvious degree of loss prior to the election. Will they propose a 300 billion dollar package right after the election? Seems unlikely.

Before the 2023 offensive from Ukraine, a Russian commander from Kherson direction said, that after this offensive the Ukrainians will attack in 2025 again and after that it's Russian victory. If we look at the current situation, Russia is creating more and more of buffer zone for that offensive. They knew the war is going to be quite long and at last unsustainable for Ukraine and west.
Strategically it favors Russia. NATO is just sending resources to be burned up in .Ukraine. it's damaging the economies of the entire West.
Russia must know the real war casualties and what Ukraine is losing and what Russia is losing, and they probably know that they are winning slowly. I also think that Russia is surprised about just how much the west and Ukraine are willing to fight a losing war.

In WW1 the “armistice” was not brought about by military losses. A much more populous country had lost around 1 million men and their Navy was sent on another suicide mission so they refused and there was regime change. If anything the Bolshevik Revolution had made things easier for Germany. They were in a better situation that Ukraine is now. I don’t know why you think this war can go on much longer when the best example is that it will end when the Zelensky Regime is forced out. I don’t think it matters much at all how much funding they get. The Ukranian losses aren’t quite as much as Germany (when corrected for size of country) and the rebellions are smaller than the Germany navy one, but they mean things aren’t far from ending. Name a war that continued for long despite this body count and level of mutiny?

For some reason people forget that quantity has a quality of it's own. RUS population approx - 147m , UKR population approx - 35m. Some of that UKR pop is Russian speaking and is now "behind enemy lines" and actively resisting the rest of the UKR population. That put's it at about 4 to 1. Who plans to win any war when outnumbered 4 to 1? Negotiation was the only realistic outcome without several other countries putting boots on the ground.

The help the Americans are giving the Ukrainians now will result to the help they were giving them all along, keeping the battle lines along the entire front stiff, but making the Ukrainians easy pickings for the Russians to mower down. Sure, a stiff Ukrainian front line makes it difficult for the Russians to advance quickly, but easier for the Russians to demilitarize the Ukrainians, all the same.
Giving the Ukrainians more help to keep the front lines stiff is an inflexible strategy. Nothing will stop the Russians from advancing, they mean business. “The Russians are coming”, Ukrainians are in the way. Either they move out of harm's way, or be mowed down.

What we need on these channels is a more general overview, at least from time to time. I'm sure all the experts out there understand the relevance of all this, but all I see is Russia taking over little villages on a, now, daily basis but the map of where the Russians are in Ukraine always seems to be the same. I would like to see an overview of what Russia have achieved since January, for instance, on a scale which makes sense.
Please include a map defining how much land still to go in Donbass, Lugansk Zaporizhya and Kherson Oblasts. That would be relevant and helpful for all we observers not from this region.
