Amazing sounds...what the differance between the 707 and the tr8s? is the 707 used for mainly synth samples etc...thanks Jim p.s this is all new to me never seen this type of kit...
TR8S is doing all kinds of percussion sounds and 707 is focused on all the synths. I don't think there were any samples used, maybe a kick sublayer is played by 707 as a wav. that's it.
@@31337techno I was just not sure if to go for the 707 instead as it also has the built in drum machines etc.. Its all moved on a lot since my last kit I sold decades ago... Thanks for youe help...
Awesome! Does the MC-707 do step loop, variations, and/or fills? Sound aside, the MC-707 looks like it offers more from a drum machine perspective since it has 16 velocity sensitive pads and 16 step buttons, whereas the TR-8S only has 16 step buttons (well, one velocity pad). But the TR-8S does have step loop/variations, etc., so I'm wonder if the MC-707 covers those areas as well. I also like that the MC-707's three knobs per track can be customized, whereas the TR-8S only allows the CTRL knob to be customized (so, Decay and Tune are fixed). Not interested in the synths on the MC-707 really but would be a nice bonus. Any insight from your experience would be great, since you own both. I guess I'm wondering if the MC-707 is (mostly) a more robust and featured TR8S (ACB vs Zencore aside). Thanks!
This is a very good observation. The thing with 707 is not a lack of capabilities and options... it has tragic capabilities (in a good way) but most of the stuff is hidden deep and you can develop certain back pain if you sit on it for too long programing it. This is the main reason why I do not use it anymore. Tr8s has everything more "in your face" and the same level of control during the performance is hardly achievable.
On TR-8S you can quickly change parameters of each track live without menu diving, but one track - one instrument. That’s why TR-8S is “rhythmic performer”
hey friend....I own a TR8s and see a lot a folks using the TR-8s with MC-707. I know you can get away just using one of these instruments and was curious if you felt some type of synergy meaning the two units together create some new powerful sounds and a workflow that could be dope for live performing. Problem is there is a tremendous amount of gear I want and can not afford everything so have to make smart purchases. Just wondering if I already own the TR-8s is the 707 a smart investment? Appreciate any advice as I am an old due (turned 60 a few months ago) and getting into electronic music production, recording & hopefully gigging late in life. Thanks!!
Hello... Could you tell me the differences between TR-8S & MC 707? Because from the momment what in the TR8S we can import any type of sample. Its like same shit but with more channels. Maybe differents FX's. But I really dont understand the Rolland move. Sorry and thanks for your time!
Kinda, yet 707 can import multiple samples to the same channel (using drum rack channel) and you can have 16 samples playing from a single channel, if you use it on a tone channel a sample can become an oscilator and you can apply all things that you are ususally doing to a tone (filters, fx, envelopes, lfos and so on). Why I use both: TR8S is driving all the drums and allows me to have more control over them during live performances. MC-707 is treated like 6 discrete synths, sequencer for my 303 clone, a looper (for techno rumble) and FX monster.
Yes, 707 on the other hand also can record and slice from your input (tr8s needs to have wav files on SD card first, so you need to prepare them earlier)
How do you go about recording these two for a live performance??? I have my tr8s hooked up to Logic Pro and record all to individual audio channels through usb, got the mc707 in order and would love to be able to record as I go straight into logic or even a dawless alternative ? What do you suggest for recording everything live?
It gives you individual control over each drum with 3 knobs per sound. 707 track gives you 3 knobs for the whole drum part. This setup was gig focused so I had to squeeze 1h of material onto 707. It is better to not worry about drums there.
I have both of these units and am only producing using Ableton with a Push 2. I am trying to decide if I should keep the 707 because I believe I have the same functions (and more) using Ableton with the Push. In other words, I don't see a production advantage using the 707. But I might be wrong about this. What are your thoughts? I enjoyed this set, BTW. Very nice.
as far as I understand the situation, the 707 is meant to give you a good haptical hands-on feeling for performing, hence it is the go-to tool for playing and performing (live). Ableton on the other side (including Push and other controllers) is still more a production unit, allthough also nice for playing live.
