- In this video we move camp to Elephant Butte State Park. I find a nice spot right on the water. Great place to beat the heat!
Thank you for being here.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!

I admire the many tricks, hacks, and ways you have learned to make van life comfortable. Thanks for sharing.
That moon was gorgeous!!!
I’m moonstruck!
Your videos always make me calm and appreciate the simple things in life. I’m starting to realize that simpler is better. Thank you for not bringing drama into these videos like so many UA-camrs do, but you instead bring nature’s beauty to us in all its glory. Hobbs is one lucky dog to be so well cared for by both of you. Best wishes from Florida. 🌴👍
Same reason I’ve been following Brian all these years. He calms my anxiety.
Well said couldn’t agree more
How funny I’m pretty sure I can see your camper from my camper. I’m at EB state park right now too lol.
The water looked amazing looking forward to the next episode
Your hitting all of my old haunts lately Brian. Spent too many days to count camping and fishing at The Butte while I was stationed at Ft, Bliss in El Paso. It is a beautiful lake with great facilities and nice people when I was there. Thanks for the trip to the lake. Stay Safe and Take Care! Please give Hobbs a treat!
Beach, desert and mountains. What more would you want? Brian, you take us to the most interesting places. Hi Kelly and Hobbs! ✌💗🚐
Trees please...would be nice
@timshel011 check my latest video for the trees🤙🏼
Some folks like slots of trees then there's me I like trees ,but, since I live, (my home base, ) smack dab in the middle of a whole bunch of very tall trees , Give me wide open spaces when traveling in my little class C Ladybug,in N.Mexico. Thanks Brian & Kelly.Hobbs, you and I are about the same speed. and your very handsome! I sure like what the beach area has to offer. Great lake,mt. views ,sunrise/set , moon ,THE BEST night light. Thank you very much from OK.
Hey Bryan, you are the first channel I started watching years ago, today is my first day as a Nomad,( sold the house). I live in Albuquerque and spend time at the Butte, so it is cool that you are there. It seems that things have come full circle.👍 I recommend JACKS CREEK CAMPGROUND IN THE PECOS beautiful area. Good luck and safe travels 👍
I use to stay in Truth or Consequences and hung out at Elephant Butte often while there. Such a beautiful oasis . 😊
Whatever camera you’re using is spectacular because it’s so clear and great color. I throughly enjoy your channel for a long time great places and always good for a tip or two and love Hobbs, Kelly and you! ❤👍
That place has fantastic sunrises and sunsets. That food looked fantastic too! 😁👍
Great to see you guys 😊and a way we goooo!😊
I always try to keep a little flashlight in my pocket all the time. Just in case I need one.
Those sunsets and sunrises are most definitely worth $8 per night. Add in that beautiful lake and I would say you found a gem of a campsite. Safe Travels Amigos 👊
Hi Brian, you're close to Faywood Hotsprings NM....wonderful rustic resort.
Nice calm relaxing video, beautiful area with a cool water lake to get the heat off you. 👍👍
Looks fantastic!!-VTown Paddy Patrick
In slow cooker in can be frozen solid and will cook just fine, in my opinion meat holds more moisture when frozen.
Hello 👋 from Pennsylvania 😃
Nice clarity with the camera, the sunrises and sunsets and moon were great. I love New Mexico, and lived in Taos for 8 years, missing the red and green chile. Thumbs up also.👍👍
Great looking campsite at the beginning of the vid and also on the beach!
I love this video 😊 The view was amazing! I couldn’t believe how big the moon was. Thank you for sharing about the devices. What a great idea for the inverter with the hair clippers.
Nice! Thanks!
Old Hobbs, living the life
Hobbs looks so happy! Living his best retired life!
There's nothing like those unobstructed sunrise and sunset views!
Beautiful area! Thanks again for sharing my friend I've yet to meet 😎 ✌️.....Hi Kelly 👋
Love that you have a step for Hobs to get on bed.
hello!
Very cool campsite.....
Hi 🙋🏿♀️
What a beautiful camping spot!! Thanks for your sharing as always, Brian.
You sure are doing some amazing filming in all these recent videos. So much beauty out there & I thank you for sharing it with us. Hobbs is being so well cared for, happy happy.✌️🏞🏖 🚚
You have a great Camera!!😂
How Beautiful!! 😂😂❤❤❤
Thanks for showing Hobbs cooling vest-I will have to look that up. Have a blessed weekend y'all ❌⭕, Iris & Little One 👋🐾
Another great spot. Amazing how cool lake water will keep you cool for a couple hours. When I was a kid and when it was hot we always went to the lake to cool off before sunset. No A.C. of course in the house. It was too hot upstairs so my Brother and I slept in our screened in porch most of the summer. Great memories. Great to see Miss Kelly and you guys enjoying life. I have many of those Ryobi tools including a small blower that I sometimes use to clean things up.
Very similar growing up with no A/C. My dad did install an above ground pool though. We'd be in there after dark some summer nights!😆
Wow! now that's what I call the perfect place to camp. The Beach!!!!! Your dinner looked wonderful. Mr. Hobbs is so content. what a wonderful retirement he is having. Thanks for sharing, your friend, Louise
I've been watching your ch for a long time I think your one of the sweetest person glad to see you happy your so kind thank you for sharing❤❤❤❤
love the sound of the water lapping on the shore, could listen to it all day
Yeah, I'm invested in Ryobi also. Bought a bundle that had a drill, sawzaw, circular saw and flash light. Then I bought a chain saw, weed whacker, hedge trimmer and blower. Need to up grade to more amp hour batteries. Thanks for your relaxing video!
What was Hobbs barking at? That beach was a nice change of living for you all! 👍🏻🇺🇸. ☕️☕️☕️☕️🍝🍜🫵🏻
I have the 10 inch chain saw. Works great. I love their One-Plus system. All my lights work on the One-Plus inverter with a 3 Amp-Hour battery.
Ryobi has a bug zapper now!😆
Great to see Miss Kelly! 😊
I love your videos Brian !I pretty much drop what i am doing when i see your videos pop up and it is i find the best way to start my day with coffee .Thank you for all you do and share ,Big hugs to you and yours from your friend in MN
HEY! Good morning Brian , Kelly and Hobbs!
Thanks for letting me see what it looks like! I've been wanting to go there for years. Maybe someday soon. I'm getting geared up now to start my dispersed camping life...a lot of things I need to acquire! Stay safe out there!
I love the Ryobi tools for camping and in my off grid house. Charge the batteries during the day when the sun is out, use them any time.
Hey Brian. Another relaxing day at camp!
I know Kelly doesn't like being on camera and not sure if you ever filmed the inside of her "home" (anyway, I try to watch all of your videos and haven't see one of it yet). By any chance would she allow you to film it? I've always envied your "home" and with hers having the side door, I'd like to see how it's set up. If she doesn't want to show it, that's ok, I'll still keep watching your adventure. lol
Beautiful area. Thanks for taking us along. Hobbs is adorable.
Hey Brian, you found one of my favorite stops when I am going from Boulder to Arizona. Always enjoyed my stays, very peaceful, something about water that just takes everything down a notch. Nice videography, as usual, love the sun and moon shots. Glad you guys enjoyed your stay, travel safe my friend.
Looks like an awesome park with an excellent spot!
“Keep making memories & adventure on!” ~Karen & Shannon WOY
I have the same vacuum! Lol
I do like Ryobi products!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
My favorite place!!! I love painting the Fra. Cristobal mountains!
Brian, how do you deal with the heat? I know you chase the good weather, but sleeping in 80 degree weather would be difficult. Are you simply used to warmer sleeping temps & therefore you don’t need an a/c?
Yeah I grew up with no A/C and camping in the desert. I worked outside doing manual labor in the heat for many years. We always just used fans.
Always a real pleasure to watch your videos! Thank you so much for sharing!
I like the frozen dog treat thingy that Hobbs was enjoying. I'm pretty sure my best friend needs one. Thanks for the tip!
Great adventure, beautiful views, delicious food, and awesome company! What more could a person ask for... blessings and joy to you all!
Thanks again for another beautiful vlog sharing sunset and moonrise and so much more ❣️ 😊👍
Do you know, have you seen, where that lake gains the water? River/snow melt/ground water?
The reservoir is fed by the Rio Grande river which is one of major rivers in the southwest and 4th biggest river in the US. The Elephant Butte dam was built around 1915.
Great video as usual!
Hi Kelly!
Are you able to cook outside so that you don't heat you where you sleep with your slow cooker on all day? Thanks for the video showing this area. I've never been there so I've added it to my list of places to camp.
Yes, when the winds and dust aren’t so bad.
So serene by the water. Sunset with moon over water was AWESOME!
Your videography and editing continue to impress. Those moon shots, wow 🫡
That little swinging chair that Kelly was sitting in looks awful comfy! Do you have a link for that?
I think REI sells them.
Great video, as always, beautiful and calming. I think it would be difficult to move before necessary.
Beautiful spot. You did well documenting the scenery. I've enjoyed seeing New Mexico in your videos. I usually pass through, but now might try some spots. Elevation is a problem for me, unfortunately, so I try to stay at 4,000' or lower. Thanks for sharing. It just makes my day. ❤☮️
Most people here may already know but I was curious when, where and how you met Kelly. 😊
Bob Wells and I organized a caravan for new nomads back in 2018. I was the host of one of two caravan groups. We had a decent size group camping together at multiple locations for a 3 month stretch. Kelly showed up at one of the locations(Anza Borrego, CA). Thats where we met for the first time. 😊
We stayed at Elephant Butte in early March. We parked on the beach looking towards the boat launch. It was beautiful a bit chilly and windy... not many people at the time. To bad they are getting rid of the annual park pass.
If you wanted some shade you could have camped at Percha Dam, Caballo Lake or go West to the Gila Wilderness. There Bear Lake, Sapillio Canyon, Bill Evans, Lake Robert's and Snow Lake. Most are free camping. 👍 👍
thanks, I have a pretty tight gas budget.🤙🏼
@@AdventureVanMan Percha and Caballo are closer to Elephant Butte, you passed them on your way to the Butte, lol
@pacoluna1091 oh sorry, I guess I should have elaborated. My route is already planned out based on my minimal funds. Even a couple small detours put me in the red.🤙🏼
Please stay longer and share it with us 😂 your videos are always a treat. Blessings
When did Kelly get a different Van? Can you do a video on it?
I’ve been to figure out the same thing! I know she doesn’t like being on video much but she just suddenly showed up with a new ride! 😂
Relaxxin... Gotta have a water stop along the way. Great place, few folks around early in the season. Enjoy 🤙🤙👍73 or so last few days here Minidoka. Walcott Lake is a few miles thats a great spot. Then of course only an hour or so to Ketchum. Headin up there soon, they are still at freezing in the morning. Safe travels ya all....🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸
My parents really enjoyed that lake and they ended up staying in TorC and both passed away there quite awhile ago
I lived there for three years after my dad died and until my mom passed
Nice area and the water level looks better then it had been
I’ll have to make it down there in my small school bus one of these years
Nice video
That sunrise TOTALLY SLAPS (everyone in the ass with a bass!)
Looks like a great place to chill. I need to check that out one day. Thanks for another vid.
Can you tell me where you got those covers for the front cab of the van?
I think Camping World and Amazon has them. ADCO is the brand. They are Make/Model specific.
How deep is this ?? Fed by the Rio Grande.
I think @ 60ft are the deep spots. Fed by the Rio Grande. Levels fluctuate. You can see a guy camped right on the waters edge in the video. Not recommended because the water level can rise over night.🤙🏼
Looks like a beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! Love your videos. Thanks for sharing. Btw Are there coyotes there?
Im At the other end of eb lake montellico
Those are some beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Say brotha Brian, I'm looking into getting one of those Ryobi battery vacs for my car. What's your review of it?? Good suction, quality prod? FRESNO OUT!
Thank you for a beautiful video! Any seasonal job coming up this summer? Maybe head to Canada for cool weather this summer?
Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Goldie in Jacksonville Florida
👍🏻🫡🇺🇸
Great to see you both. Is Kelly in a different rig. What happen to her van
She's now in a truck van like yours.
hi very peaceful video...........stay safe ................peace
I remember this check point.. it being my first I wasn’t sure what to expect but he just waved us on.. I know right where you are.. we stopped there back in 2016.. husband was curious because he is a huge fisherman. So beautiful! I will ALWAYS love New Mexico!
Thanks Brian.
What a great video😊
Completely new to your channel and I appreciate your content and approach.
It's refreshing to see somebody with a good head on their shoulders these days.
I'm in NY ....Patiently waiting to do what you're doing some day.
On another one of your videos I noticed a Analog Man logo on your cabinet. Now I see a guitar.
I've been curious about instruments in different environments and having big temperature sways and how that effects the guitar.
Do you have to do constant maintenance to keep it playable or is it minimal?
My ultimate goal is to do what your doing but Completely immerse myself in my guitar and study it deeply until my last day.
From NY....I've decided on going back and forth from AZ to NM just because of the humidity levels stay low out there but not being from the area I'm not sure if its a good idea....but I guess we'll see.
One thing I know is NM is absolutely gorgeous.
Can't wait to finally change from a human doing to a human being!
Thanks again
Another great UA-cam video.
We always enjoy your adventure.
Where did you get that shade awning it's pretty cool looks like it provides a lot of shade.
Thanks bud
That’s my kind of beach. No saltwater👍
I so liked Kelly…dang it. I really like to watch your cooking sir..!
I watched your videos all d time yet only today did I notice Kelley has a different van. Could u tour her van one of these days please? I remember u tour her ford transit before. Thanks brian❤
Swimming is lakes and natural bodies of water is fun, swimming in pools kinda sucks.
I'll have to check out Elephant Butte next time. Might linger in New Mexico for a change.
What a lovely spot - and a great view too. Seems like a bargain for the price. Oh golly, I need to dig down into the freezer - I think we have a pork loin somewhere. We really like it because it's tender and moist but lean as well as flavorful. Good idea. Hobbs has really taken to the camp life, hasn't he? It has to be good for him to move outdoors and get more active.
You gotta get some Mexican food in Santa Fe going north. Thanks, another great video.
