I'm really interested in the axeman's carnival and the Sarah Moss memoir. If you're interested in memoirs of women who's mother's have been murdered, a really excellent one from Australia is The Mother Wound by Amandi Hadar, I listened to the audiobook, there was quite a bit too it. It's won a couple of Australian awards.
I didn't know about Bear but The Disappearing Earth is excellent, enjoy!

I added so many books from your list, thank you! I love stories about women, friendship and nature and so many books ticked these boxes 😊

Another book told from the perspective of a bird is Tracy Sorensen's The Lucky Galah. I don't usually like magic realism but I saw Tracy interviewed about it and was convinced to try it. I loved it, as did my book club when I persuaded them to read it

I’ve definitely got Interesting Facts About Space on my list! I really liked her other book like you. Also, I just wanted to add I so appreciate the effort you go to to put these videos together, it gives me so many recommendations

Bear was fantastic! I was going to recommend it if you didn’t mention it, since I saw you gave Disappearing Earth four stars on Goodreads. It’s now one of my favorite novels about sisters and sisterhood, it’s beautifully descriptive about the setting, and it also touches on memory - specifically how the same event or conversation can be remembered totally differently by the people who experienced it. I liked Disappearing Earth a lot but Bear is definitely my favorite of the two.
Company by Shannon Sanders was also really good, in a totally opposite way. Punchy and sharp. So glad to see it on your list because I’m bummed about how few reviews it has on Goodreads. Loved how Sanders explores the layers of performance involved in hosting a gathering, or being hosted.

Love this list! So many books I'm also excited about and a few new ones I added to my list. (like: how did I miss the fact that Sarah Moss has a new book coming out?!). I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on favourite books of 2023.

Oh, I loved The Wild Laughter so I'll definitely be checking out The Alternatives. Thrilled that there's a new Emily Austin coming too - although I were that it sounds like a bit of a departure from her first one!

Yes, it does sound a bit odder doesn't it? And the first one was already pretty odd, haha

the first third of After the Eclipse has stayed with me for years, what a powerful memoir. I’m going to use my Christmas vouchers towards preorders of First Love, Winter Animals and Fire Exit, but may also need a copy of Mystery Lights for that cover design alone - gorgeous!! ♥️

You definitively have sold me on four books: two about sisters (I love stories about sisters as I have three girls and find their relationship very interesting) and two with bunnies on the cover (we have three bunnies). As simple as that😊!
I hope you will read them and tell us all about them❤

Thanks for this list, looks like some really good ones. I’m looking forward to prioritising front list titles this year. My reading was really ‘off’ this year because I wasn’t reading what I really wanted to. Not doing that again 😂 look forward to your reviews ❤

I read "We Were Once A Family" this year and I found it very compelling. It discusses more the racism of the American foster and adoption system. The crime is not the main focus.

Great list!😊 Three books I’m excited for are Evenings & Weekends by Oisin McKenna, Night swimmers by Roisin Maguire and The Tower by Flora Carr 🤗

I've added Evenings & Weekends and Night Swimmers to my list. They both sound great so thanks for mentioning them 😊 I'm waiting to hear more about The Tower as I've had some bad luck with debut historical fiction.

Happy New Year Mercedes, I’m in Melbourne so it’s been the new year for ages! Bit random but there is a book you liked that I can’t think the name of and it’s right behind you!!! However I can’t read the name, so unfortunately I have to bother you. The spine with the woman’s face? To the right of White Ivy. From memory it was a woman’s family drama which I’ve always had in the back of my mind to read and thought I’d ask! Thanks Mercedes! I
