Little Mac’s playstyle is about forgoing gimmicks for being good at the essentials.

Imagine if little mac got a completly new redesign where he has better jumps, his rolls and spotdodges would be a bit better, no throws (in boxing throws are illegal ) but being a boxer, his feet won't leave the stage unless you jump, until certain percent(60% for example).
He would be a unique character with a completly different mechanic and play style.

This is why I’m a little Mac main. This is why I beat all my friends. But god DAMN this is why you don’t jump off the stage unless it’s a kill. His recovery is god awful, unless you really know how to finesse it.

distance is actually about average hes just very gimpable, there are plenty of characters with a worse recovery, little macs recovery is basically a slightly worse version of luigis recovery.

Playing little mac is just like punch out, you have enemies that have a clear advantage over you, so you block, dodge and take every oportunity to make damage, you have play patient and calm,and when you see the opening you do a finishing punch

Except, the clear advantage is way to big. Yes, his gameplay relies on baiting and Puccini at correct times, but it's way to easy to gimp or outrage him in almost every situation. It is nice when you hit those KO punches or smash attacks, but usually your opponent does way more to you than you can do to them.

80% of this Little Mac gameplay is letting the opponent make a move, having them miss or mess up and then going in for the kill. Pretty true to form imo!
But isn't that Little Mac's entire shtick? He's a tiny man that hits HARD, fighting opponents that move and hit harder then he can. Kind of feels like "caution" was built into his Smash Moveset where he isn't suppose to be too openly aggressive, but to punish his opponents.

The only real issue I see with Little Mac is his recovery. He's quick, powerful and lots of fun to use otherwise.

How to make Little Mac Good:
Better Recovery
When hit after using side b off stage you can use it again
K.O punch stays for a longer period of time
Actual aireals
Replace neutral b
Honestly all he really needs is his offstage side b fixed. Little Mac can clearly be brokenly dominant in the right hands against the right player, and having a bad recovery balances that out to make him super risky to use.
I just wish his recovery was only terrible instead of being a broken mess that barely works.
Thunderbird013 that’s not the only problem with Mac. A better side B would make him better of course but hes still horrible in the air, and the top tiers of now (joker, wario, lucina) are great at juggling. Mac only has a small amount of tools to help him get out of the air like airdodge (can only be used once until you get hit or land) and counter (can be baited). If we want Mac to be more than mid tier then useful aerials are a must. Some that at least give him more options in the air

Don’t blame the charecter for the players not useing little Mac properly . He does does insane damage, have you ever fought a little Mac with the bunny hood on, it is impossible to kill him in that state. When little Mac gets recovery he becomes a transcendent being of pure power a being that can not be stoped, but yeah his recovery is his only issue otherwise he is a great character.
