The following is taken from the warm, generous tribute that Dame Janet paid to Montserrat published in the December 2018 edition of 'Opera' Magazine' just on Caballé's death in October of that year..... “The only occasion on which I had the honour of singing with Montserrat Caballé was the recording we made of Cosí fan tutte. It’s an experience that even now remains in my memory quite clearly and wonderfully. The delight and pleasure of working together was unforgettable. Her reputation obviously went before her, and I think she felt my admiration and heroine worship. But at a deeper level we got on extremely well… Being so close to the sound she made was an extraordinary experience.”
Oh yes indeed, that was a lovely tribute t the great Montserrat from the great Janet Baker. Another nice thought is that they were both born in 1933 and each had long lasting marriages!
When I first heard Caballe's heavenly pianissimo, or Baker's Parto, parto from La Clemenza di Tito, I knew: that is how it should be done, but no one will ever replicate that. Every second is unique and I feel blessed for every shiver I experience and for every sound I hear
thank you for posting. I will now listen to my cd that has been languishing in a shelf. i have had this recording for many years and today I am listening to it with an even greater appreciation for the quality. cheers

Janet Baker said that people were surprised that she was asked to sing Dorabella because they thought that she had no sense of humour! They were wrong of course. I’ve just listened to her singing Doppo Notte with Raymond Leppard, staggering and wonderful.

Theo, you won't believe what just happened :D I just arrived today to Vienna, and it was evening. I went with my friend to the famous Landtmann cafe and we have a nice dinner. Suddenly I hear some opera from somewhere close, and after a couple minutes I recognised the singer. Me and my friend rushed across the street to find a film festival where, low and behold, They were screening on a huge screen Wiener Blut with Ingeborg!! It was so nice and fun, everything just screamed Vienna. I arrive in Vienna, I eat schnitzel, I walk by the palace, I watch an operetta with Ingeborg ;D The true Viennese experience.
I was the first one to post her on UA-cam 10 years ago (the Lakme clip) but coloraturafan and the rest of coloratura maniacs flooded youtube with her recordings
I adore, adore Caballe's Fiordiligi. This was actually amongst her most numerous of roles before she started exploring the Bel Canto and Verdi repertoire. She uses the whole expanse of her voice, doesn't deter from the low tessitura and her legato is so heavenly. Such a shame in a way that it's the only Mozart role she ever recorded.
...and for another reason... every single melody in every single place in Cosi, is Divine... no second arias etc... everything is Heavenly Gorgeous in this opera... and that is why so few singers sing this Opera often... even Renee avoided it after her spectacular Cosi under Solti (with von Otter if I recall)... in fact I cannot think one huge singer who kept this role constantly in her repertoire besides Schwarzkopf
Lohengrin O And it's a very exposed role, Mozart always somehow left the singer relatively naked no matter how dramatic the music... I feel like this about Mozart's other two most difficult roles- Donna Anna and Donna Elvira. All killers concealed within gorgeous melodies.
...and lets not forget his most difficult role of them all, more difficult even than Norma, Medea and Lady M,... the Queen of the Night!!! Only 60 sopranos coloratura have managed up today to sing this role perfectly...the rest really screwed up
I needed this. Got annoyed by trivialities today. These beautiful voices just put my mind back to balance.
exactly my feeling too...
Yes. Good singing has a therapeutic quality.
Oh dear, I feel just the same!

Their voices can make me believe in God.
Two of my favorite singers together for a Mozart aria that is also one of my favorites...Wow! It doesn't get better than this.

Stunning!!!
I have no word, it is so beautiful.

Voces de gran belleza + técnica vocal sólida + ensamble refinado = Perfección

See the BBC video of Britten's version of The Beggar's Opera for a delicious deadpan comic performance by Janet Baker in the role of Polly Peachum. :)
Her "Dopo notte" is, without doubt, one of the greatest bits of singing that ever emanated from a human throat.

Sublime.
Caballe, the most beatiful soprano voice of XX century

Ingeborg Forever...
Lohengrin O And you're the one who popularized her on UA-cam ;)
I was the first one to post her on UA-cam 10 years ago (the Lakme clip) but coloraturafan and the rest of coloratura maniacs flooded youtube with her recordings
Lohengrin O I COULD OF BEEN THERE. BUT NO. I WAS IN THE OPERATING ROOM SAVING LIVES! 😷😤😩 ARNOLD BOURBON AMARAL
If only permitted one opera singer, for me it is Baker. And she ceased to sing publicly the day she reached 50 years old. So sad.
she kept singing non publicly after?
I adore, adore Caballe's Fiordiligi. This was actually amongst her most numerous of roles before she started exploring the Bel Canto and Verdi repertoire.

Fiordiligi is Mozart's Assoluta role... it requires everything...
Lohengrin O Yep, even in this duet she has to sing in a lower vocal line than Dorabella at one point.... This is Mozart's Norma for sure.
...and for another reason... every single melody in every single place in Cosi, is Divine... no second arias etc... everything is Heavenly Gorgeous in this opera... and that is why so few singers sing this Opera often... even Renee avoided it after her spectacular Cosi under Solti (with von Otter if I recall)... in fact I cannot think one huge singer who kept this role constantly in her repertoire besides Schwarzkopf

I love this recording but I kept receiving lemons whenever I order CDs from Overseas vendors. Thanks once again...
lemon+red grapefruit+peach all in juice machine - amazing anti-oxidant shower for cells :D
Is Ileana Cotrubas also in the cast?
Indded. And she is surely the best Despina on earth. Both cynical like the devil and delicious like an angel. Absolutely wonderfull.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Equally :D
Le Nozze di Figaro???
Treyson Sherratt . No cosi fan tutte !
Remi-Charles Caufman Ah yes that’s right. I remember hearing this at a colleagues recital! Did Caballe do a lot of Mozart in her early career??
Treyson Sherratt . I ve got her in come scoglio in cosi and dove sono in le nozze.
