Great explanation. Keeps it simple and gives you an excellent amount of supporting NAV info.

Really good hints, the only problem I see is that while you are using the second G430 for the DME readout on the approach it is actually GPS distance which can differ a bit from the DME distance as it is a slant range

I've been having issues in my IFR training lately in the Salinas valley where many approaches are based on SNS (KWVI, KSNS, KMRY) When I switch the first button on the Avidyne instead of Garmin, it all changes... And its already stressful enough with constant and quick wind changes in IFR conditions and mountains. When your screens change plans, it's downright maddening and dangerous. Thank you!

Could you expand on the part where you "lock in the VOR with OBS"? Does it matter which radial is locked in if you're only concerned with a distance? What exactly does it mean to lock it in with OBS?

IF YOU TURN THE BACKGROUND DRUM BEAT OFF YOU WILL NOT NEED TO YELL AND DEAFEN YOUR AUDIENCE. IN REAL LIFE YOU DO NOT FUNCTION IN A CACOPHONY OF NOISE. YES ???
