- MOONTRAP miniature effects. Dave Hettmer talks about photographing the miniature and practical effects for the 1988 film. Segment from Sense of Scale documentary. Photos: Richard Jacobson, Acme Effects, Dave Hettmer
He talks about it like it happened yesterday. He's still got it.
Thank you for sharing. It is so interesting. I could listen to You for hours. Keep up the good work. 😊
I haven't heard of this film. Gonna have to find it and watch.
Great video...👍
That movie was true, pure 80s budget sci-fi…and it had BWEEEEWBS too…😂
Sound in one ear only. Only on this video. Fyi
It was recorded that way.
I really wish you would show the photos of the models, sets, etc. for a bit longer. I mean, he's a handsome fella and all, but he's not what we've come for!
Also, is there a reason for not actually showing any clips?
Surely copyright can't be that bad that you can't show anything?
Well, it's a UA-cam video so you can stop the video at any time and look at the photo(!) Or you can just watch it again! Using Clips can easily get you into trouble with the studios. That means lawyers. I've had to take down some videos because of that. But some of my videos do show finished clips (Quantum Leap). This doc is about the model makers and their work. Most of the movie clips can be found elsewhere here on UA-cam.
@@piercefilm, the problem is you don't even leave enough time to react to pausing it, especially when you're listening to what people are saying, so I end up having to keep rewinding it, which because "it's a UA-cam video", happens in ten second increments - meaning that I constantly hear the last seven or eight seconds repeated every time a photograph comes up! It just makes for a disjointed viewing experience.
Even if you held them for an extra three seconds it would be a good improvement.
Fascinating, as always. I'll have to check out this film.
On le trouve sur YT.
Fantastic you got these segments on such obscure but fascinating films!
One of my favourite films!
This is my favorite channel on youtube.
Thanks for watching!
I love the concept of this movie. Good for a new miniseries.
I haven't revisited the film since first seeing it in 1989, but I do remember being deeply impressed by the visual effects. It was a film with a small budget, but the FX artists made it look far more expensive.
This film looks great!
Can't believe I haven't seen it? 🤖👀
The effects in this film were well better than they had any right to be. Great work.
I cannot believe I never heard of this film. Looks awesome!
Most excellent work, Mr. Hettmer! Thank you for sharing your experience of making it happen.
Just goes to show that a little hard work and tenacity led to some amazing work that still holds up. Kudos for an amazing job!
The full movie is on YT. On a quick scan there is an alien helmet opening scene which is very Alien: Prometheus.
Love this movie. So glad it's available on Blu-Ray now.
Fascinating, thank you.
🍎🍊❤❤❤🧡
I really enjoyed that movie...the "so-called" sequel was really aweful...😆
How have I never seen this film? Must look for a streaming of it....👍

The effects were great, especially for the time. Let's not mention 'Moontrap 2'
Cinefantastique published a nice article with lots of photos of the miniatures and other stuff. I wanted to see this so bad and have still not managed to track it down yet.

How's was the Astronuaght Puppet made how were you able to make the Items look real in this scale😊
What paint was used on the
4 inch GI Joe Figures
J'ai découvert Moontrap il y a quelques mois. C'est une petite "série B" très sympathique.
Je défends l'idée qu'elle a été une des sources d'inspiration pour le jeu d'aventures animées de Lucas Arts, The Dig de 1995.
How were the Puppets made
bye tyt
MoonTrap rules.
GET THESE GUYS TO TALK ABOUT THE CAMERAS AND LENSES!!! ❤❤❤❤
Well, I'm more focused on the miniature work with this doc. But I do try to get VFX camera people involved as well to hear their stories.
@@piercefilm I know I'm just thirsty. Love this whole series. ❤❤
