I dont get the design behind a layered king of the hill map. The dudes on the outside have no flanks, have few resources so they will have to attack to the players closer to the center of them. When that is so, the dudes around the center, who should have attacked the king of the hill player have to defend their bases from the attackers instead. That leaves a king of the hill player with no one really attacking him because they are under attack. He automatically wins.
my thoughts exactly, it looks like it's a 6v1 but in reality he's fighting maybe 2 people max, usually less due to their harass. If you want an emperor on his throne of minerals, he needs to be attacked on all sides by people who arent fending off 2 early rushes. The offcentre players in this match didn't turtle because they had defendible bases, they turtled because if they didn't turtle they would die. The concept is good, but we can clearly see from this match the map needs a rework to behave as intended.
Right. It cannot be a thin map. King of the Hill, not King of the Line. I get the theory, but it plays out exactly how you said. Middle guys gotta defend; center wins handily.
@@empty5013 Personally the easiest solution would be to just make it a square map, with each player in the corner with a straight line to the middle, and to the players on neighbouring corners. Then the king of the hill would be in the middle and would be forced to fight 4 people. Or if they want to keep this design, then they have to make sure to give the corner players a way to directly attack the king of the hill player as well
yeah its bad design honestly, the map funnels the edge players into attacking the center left and right players while center can happily mine and build up it wouldnt be as bad if they werent essentially forced to fight each other to even be able to reach the center
@@oguzcanoguz5977 I think it can work in the thin design, but the off centre players need more safety, perhaps being bumped up to the edge of the map so they dont have to defend 360 degrees. Mineral counts also need a rework, I think cutting 1000~ minerals from each central patch (so about 2k per patch I think) would incentivize the king to be at least somewhat aggressive and try and secure a 2nd, maybe not early but at least at some point. The fact that the king is mining after every other expansion is mined out is crazy, he has genuinely no reason to attack. Maybe more accessible expansions for the outer players could help too, I like that it forces aggression but ultimately this map just looks miserable for off-centre players, just look how this match played out, zerg was completely contained and terran who I think played great and was aggressive got punished heavily and hemmed in by 3 players which ultimately choked him out.
I love playing with Felix. Every game he has to take the "show" and come in first place. Even when I pressure Felix, he just steps on the gas... and starts to push an APM that I cannot match.

Yeah, the ones just to the side of the middle are in a much worse spot. Middle can only be attacked by 2 players. The ones on either side of middle can each be attacked by 3 players. Middle probably also won't get attacked much, because the only people that can attack middle will be under constant threat from the people on the far sides.
pink probably has the strongest position on this map. brown and black actually have the worst spots: the 4 most external people must push inward to get more resources, which means into brown and black, and pink might also attack outward which means brown and black are threatened by 3 people. meanwhile, pink is only threatened by 2 and has more resources. also, the most external people can't ignore their counterpart, because there is only one expansion. they pretty much have to kill or weaken the other external person on their side of the map to take the one expansion, then kill brown/black to continue inward
I made a map kind of like this. It is called Castle. Basically, the guy in the middle starts with more minerals and gas patches, and on 2 story elevated terrain. The other people start on the outskirts of the map on the ground level. They have less resources, but they can try to climb up towards the center of the map for elavation level 1 expansions. The guy in the middle is on level 2, and also has the opportunity to expand downwards.
For the map changes they need to make it easier for the low resource bases to defend from and attack to the higher resource bases. So ask the defensive map features need to face towards the middle. Everyone needs to be attacking inwards. It could also be cool to see a 3 team version of this map with each side and the middle as the teams. That might require the middle to get some early defense, or some way for each side to attack the other side without having to kill the middle.
This is an awesome friggin map. Please make the modifications that Artosos brought up. Then make another video with the revised map. Loved the video. Cant wait for more FFA madness. Also if i may make a suggestion. The bases on the sides, their minerals counts shouldn't be so low. Instead they should have fewer patches. That way they dont run out so fast. Instead the have a slower rate of mining. That will still force the sides to attack inward in order increase their rate of mining. More gas too please.
Think I'd try two normal middle bases (12 and 6), and give the guys on right-center and left-center the most resources since they basically can't expand.
Should bring this back this is actually really interesting right up into the last about quarter of it when everybody was turtle then just sitting there

So the very middle is no more middle than the other middle spots. In all 3 spots you can equally be attacked. In fact in the very middle you can really only be attacked by 2 people. Out one base you can be attacked by 3 people. So the secondary middle bases are the worst starting positions. The number of patches for mid is more significant than the amount of minerals in each.

I play with ensipid a lot. He always performs well. Very high scores, very high resource counts. I think I beat ensipid 1v1 though. Just had to do that arbiter stuff until he left before the game was ever over... I think I drove him out.
if terran is a little better he wins it as saltosis threw away so much xD but the easiest win was for yellow xD seeing him threw all his units into death time and time again did hurt my little protoss heart xD that was some epic D vs D- action there xD
Interesting map. Saltosis is a really good player from what I've seen in other ffa maps so that's something to take into account as well. I was rooting for her.
The edge people kill eachother for nothing. If they know the details of the map maybe it's ok, but as is, it looks like an enormous advantage to the middle.
Honestly it kinda seems like the mid just shouldn't exist and 6 player map. That or get rid of the skinny rectangular design. Because basically only the other two non-corner bases will attack mid early, but they too busy defending from corner base players.
This map should be 4 players in the corners and one in the middle..the extra 2 players in between actually mess up the flow of players going after the middle instead they are cannibalizing each other.

We only have two choices, Artosis eating or Artosis burping inward afterwards like in GSL. Choose carefully.

Center is WIDE open to siege tank harass from the outside base expansions, the Terrans just fought between themselves and didn't capitalise on it.
i believe the problem is that attacking mid leaves you open to being attacked by the edge bases

I think a 4 corner low mineral map vs center high mineral would make way more sense 5 player FFA
