  • I discovered a trailer about Yadana Nat Mai, also known as June Bellamy, on UA-cam.
June Bellamy, the last Princess of Burma, also known as Myanmar, was married to Myanmar’s Dictator U Ne Win who ruled the country from 1962 to 1988. I was interested in knowing more about this 84 year old woman who was teaching cooking in this trailer.
Nat SOT - ( pic of May Myo and her family)
My grandmother is Yadana Nat Mai aka June Bellamy’s cousin, and I remember my grandmother telling me stories about Bellamy often when I was a little girl. With the help of Directors, Barbara Andriano and Guendalina di Marco, we arranged a place where June Bellamy and I can see each other. I not only wanted to meet her to know more about my personal roots, but I wanted to understand her point of view on Burma’s history. I wanted to know why the last princess of Myanmar married the dictator of Burma.

Kaye Lin: Please do your research thoroughly. June Bellamy is not the last princess of Burma. There are many direct descendants of King Thi Baw such as Dewi Thant Zin a very well spoken lady in English. She is still alive. June Rose Bellamy was nothing else but an opportunist who should stick to her cooking classes. (Perth Australia) Burma expat.

When Ne Win married her she thought she would become Queen of Myanmar and influence the dictator. After a short marriage, not being able to influence Ne Win, after several arguments, she walked out. Eyewitnesses state she left Mingalardon Airport in anger, demanding Customs Officers not to open her luggage.
It raises the presumption of vast quantities of gems being exported out of Myanmar in her luggage, without clearance. VIP status is rescinded on divorce and diplomatic immunity ceases on divorce.

There was no such diplomatic immunity applied. VIP status was still till the time she left. Burmese authorities never do anything on their own for this kind of issue. Gems is another bs.

@thamainbama You were not at the airport either, so you don't know that it isn't true. The very fact that customs would not check the baggage of VIPs in Burma gave rise to the assumption that many people of 'importance' would and could smuggle out precious stones or other illicit stuff out of the country. Probably going on to this day.

No one pushed Mr Ne Win to become a dictator. When the then Revolutionary Council talked about nationalizing businesses in 1963, the late Col. Ba Ni spoke out that it was a bad idea and they should rethink about it. Ne Win was reported to have said, " If you don't like it, then don't come to these meetings anymore. " No one dared to say anything after that. Wrt Ms Bellamy knowing Ne win as a young captain, I was in Maymyo when Ne Win's ADC, Capt. Tin Oo committed suicide after being told by Mr Bellamy that his earnings were not enough for June's footwear. One thing wrong with this suicide. Capt. Tin Oo was right handed, the bullet entered his left temple. Ne Win was a Major General then and reportedly had a crush on June Rose, who was a high school student at St. Joseph's Convent. When June Rose's husband, the WHO Italian doctor who was a classmate of my father at the Univ. of Liverpool in the early 1950s, was kidnapped, the late Col. Aung Gyi, ( late Brig. General) came to our house and told my father that Ne Win had instructed my father to take his unit and rescue the doctor at a location just outside the town, and to kill all the kidnappers. My father told Col. Aung Gyi that a matter like this had to be reported to Brig Kyaw Zaw, the Northern command commander. Brig. Kyaw Zaw did exactly as Mr Ne Win ordered, rescued the doctor from the location given by Mr Ne Win and killed all the kidnappers., which meant we never know who was behind the kidnapping of June Rose's husband.

Nay Win and military rules that followed, succeeded by different moron generals, are just a pure curse on Burma, the country that I love.
Burma was one of the brightest in Asia at one point but now one of the dimmest. It could've paralleled or even surpassed Singapore if they had real leaders with vision and wisdom, but what we got was shortsighted, ignorant generals who only knew how to keep their power and oppress freedom and growth.
DASSK tries as she might but still these generals are in the way of real progress. Such a mess and such a shame. SMH.

Bro I’m Burmese too, the reason why Myanmar aka Burma is underdevelopment and still poorest country in Asia is because we Burmese and minorities ethnic is fighting each other for their own territory to establish their own country which is why Burma has the longest civil war and our ethnicities will never be a unity of Myanmar

    • @TheBurmeseDude
      @TheBurmeseDude 3 роки тому

There are so many things to breakdown here.
First of all, Burmese military has been actively persecuting these minorities for decades, raping, killing, pillaging, burning villages, oppressing in many forms that amount to crime against humanity. So why would they keep taking it and not rise up and demand their own territory? They haven’t been treated fairly to say the least.
Second of all, military is full of cronies and uneducated fools at the top, who wish to run the country’s all affairs they have no business in running. Military’s role is to protect the country and that should be the extent of it. They should have absolutely no role in anything else, especially in developing the country, economy, technology, foreign policies. They’re not qualified to do such things, and no developed and successful country is led by the military government.
The international community thinks it’s horrible that Burma has been committing genocide against Rohingya, who in my opinion are hapless stateless people that aren’t an ethnic Burmese minority. Does international community even know these acts are committed by the military alone, DASSK cannot control them, and military commits the same atrocities against other ethnic minorities for decades?
DASSK should be in complete control of the country, including the military but that’s not the current reality. Military acts on its own which ends up discrediting so much work of DASSK, which is utterly a shame as it is ruining her reputation abroad. The downfall and struggle of Burma/Myanmar is largely, if not solely, on Tatmadaw military.
