Already ppl are working 12 hrs a day 6 days a week without getting paid for extra time. That makes 72 hours. While hiring they were told to work 9 hours 6 days a week which is 54 hrs. So, an employee is already working extra hours without getting paid overtime. Ask him to justify that first. And if he is comparing with China then compare other aspects as well. Secondly, if he thinks and wants the employees to work for 90 hrs then pay them for those 90 hrs honestly with true expectations and not unrealistic expectations. I know few people who were working in L&T and left it due to work overload, their HR don't have any proper track of who has resigned. They make payments and then after 6-7 months call the employee and ask to return the extra salary credited and clear F&F for documents. They have such strict BGV but they need to have BGV for their workload.

We were running a session on work-life balance and a participant said I can finish a task meant 2 hrs in 90 minutes but If i'm told I have a 'dead' line of 2 hours I am going to take 3 hours. As a training company we shared that may you can call it, "Lifeline" or "Timeline" for yourself and not a suggestion of "death". One of the founder directors was also attending the session and he immediately made it a mandate to change the word to "Lifeline". Leadership presence is life giving.

Sorry for writing a long one. I don't think it's a generational gap issue. That seems to be trivializing the whole topic because there exist people like Bhavesh from Ola saying much the same. I think there are multiple factors behind these thoughts like workers are slaves, they don't and shouldn't have life beyond the work, everyone's personal life is the support system for their job, employment is a favor these companies doing to employees, we have thousand replacements for anyone who doesn't fall in line, etc. The corporate India is at a point where they think there are no repercussions for anything they say. Just ask them to pay overtime to each employee as per the labor law and they will stop talking about 70/90 hours a day. People want to work to earn an honest and respectful living, beyond that they have their own life, family, friends, passions, hobbies. I work exactly in this setup within IT where granting sick leave even with doctor's note is considered a luxury and your seniors will make sure to point out in every call that that they have just done the biggest favors of their lives by granting those leaves. Even reputed companies like L&T make headlines for such concerns. Imagine the plight of employees in smaller firms or other MNCs where job security is leveraged to exploit them. Leaders should inspire, not demand unsustainable sacrifices.
Already ppl are working 12 hrs a day 6 days a week without getting paid for extra time. That makes 72 hours. While hiring they were told to work 9 hours 6 days a week which is 54 hrs. So, an employee is already working extra hours without getting paid overtime. Ask him to justify that first. And if he is comparing with China then compare other aspects as well. Secondly, if he thinks and wants the employees to work for 90 hrs then pay them for those 90 hrs honestly with true expectations and not unrealistic expectations. Bcoz there are so many ppl working under him with bare minimum wages while the leadership taking all the profits. Its like Britishers exploiting poor Indians before Independence. Feels like that only to me - Modern Slavery = Corporate
Frankly without declaration people are working for 70 - 90 days already and also let them pay for 90 hours fairly and also share in the profits , senior management has become insane with unrealistic expectations!!

Faye in UAE the govt offices & enterprises in Sharjah opted for a 3 day break and the result are remarkable..the output of work per employee has infact increased and the employees are happier than before.

U want to trade your life ora part of your life for just double of a salary, i don’t know what to say about it, may be you are privileged enough to trade that time but many are not even for triple of the salary. What if someone’s family member is sick or weak and just have no time trading option.

Working overtime and on holidays is a sign of inefficiency. There is no work which can't be done during 8 hours of working days.
It's more than a generational gap. It's greed. That person is paid 500 times more than an average employee. And he wants to keep making that money. The sad truth is that in such companies they don't refer to employees as people, they are referred to as "resource". It has a psychological impact on people. When you refer to someone as an object, you start seeing them as such as well. And that's what happens. Employees aren't people. They're just a number on a spreadsheet.
This comments also points towards us getting back to slavery. The conglomerates are pushing such ideas because they want to get bigger at the cost of employees, without thinking we’re human beings and don’t just exist to serve them.

What the CEO said is actually not correct! Already, most of the employed Indians are working on Sundays apart from working at least 10 hours per day! In fact, the government should provide facilities such as excemption from income tax, safe and secured work place, good housing facilities and good transport facilities! The only thing that they are concerned about is increasing the bottom line by reducing employee costs - if employees work beyond normal hours then the organization can get the work done by hiring less employees. Moreover, most of these aged men have children who are all grown up and most probably working and married. So they don't have any major responsibilities at home and whatever little responsibilities they may have are easily delegated to the hordes of house helps, secretaries and assistants that these uber rich can afford. Due to the luxury of their comfortable life and their desire for higher and higher profits, they make these kinds of statements. Their views deserve to be junked.

He works on Sunday and makes his employees also work due to which his company doesn't have any proper track of anything. I know few people who were working in L&T and left it due to work overload, their HR don't have any proper track of who has resigned. They make payments and then after 6-7 months call the employee and ask to return the extra salary credited and clear F&F for documents. They have such strict BGV but they need to have BGV for their workload.

We were running a session on work-life balance and a participant said I can finish a task meant 2 hrs in 90 minutes but If i'm told I have a 'dead' line of 2 hours I am going to take 3 hours. As a training company we shared that may you can call it, "Lifeline" or "Timeline" for yourself and not a suggestion of "death". One of the founder directors was also attending the session and he immediately made it a mandate to change the word to "Lifeline". Leadership presence is life giving.
We can't talk logic in his statements as they are ridiculous, illogical and bluntly stupid unless he was joking which is unlikely.

I don't think it's a generational gap issue. That seems to be trivializing the whole topic because there exist people like Bhavesh from Ola saying much the same.
I think there are multiple factors behind these thoughts like workers are slaves, they don't and shouldn't have life beyond the work, everyone's personal life is the support system for their job, employment is a favor these companies doing to employees, we have thousand replacements for anyone who doesn't fall in line, etc.
The corporate India is at a point where they think there are no repercussions for anything they say.
Just ask them to pay overtime to each employee as per the labor law and they will stop talking about 70/90 hours a day. People want to work to earn an honest and respectful living, beyond that they have their own life, family, friends, passions, hobbies. There is so much to being human than just grinding in a corporate mill and die.
If we have a growing population attached to healthy happy families, economic prosperity is almost guaranteed.
However, we need our business leaders to think broadly and look far to realize that.
I work exactly in this setup within IT where granting sick leave even with doctor's note is considered a luxury and your seniors will make sure to point out in every call that that they have just done the biggest favors of their lives by granting those leaves. Situation is really grave in IT industry and labour laws are not followed anywhere.
