Rad tutorial bud. Just what I've been looking for. I just got mine at a pawn shop 2 weeks ago. super stoked. question, How do I lengthen the patter, bars. I see your tutorial going for 4 bars, but I am only at 1 bar. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.
Newbie question here...what if I compose something in Cubase and save it as a Midi file (in corresponding channels 1-5 etc.)...how will EMX load that file? The idea is to make a song in Cubase and then import it to the EMX for massive tweaking. (I don't want to use the live Midi connection, only import my song via a Smart Media card. (which I still don't have)
Nice presentation of EMX-1 ,thank you EMX-1 is not a bad machine as far as it sound quality goes i only found one thing missing Few years ago when i bought EMX-1 i could not believe that Korg was so naive that EMX didn´t have any Computer based program for editing/patches etc :( , ? Later in time i have found this amazing software "DirectEMX The VST/AU Editor for Korg Electribe MX" ,it really helps to fill that what was EMX was missing in the first place.. Maybe by now Korg have some software to cover their mistake they have made Earlier ? i don´t know... Don´t get me wrong This only my opinion about support for DMX, Maybe rest of the users didn´t find this as trouble or mistake made by Korg ,it´s OK ,i understand , there is so many users of this machine who use DMX in other ways so perhaps they don´t need this kind of feature Once again thanks for the Video showing some of the nice features that this amazing machine can offer. I still have EMX :D
i produce and i have comercial tracks with this machine. The only thing i miss in it is the effect part, yo cna´t assing same effect to diferrent parts whit different parameters. A version with this fix could be make it into the perfect machine
Did you ever figure out how to start from a blank slate? I just got one, and I don't know how to do that. Everything starts out as some premade techno jam.
Alberto Vera There's a MIDI cable going MIDI Out of the keyboard controller, into the MIDI IN on the Electribe. Then you just need to put the synth part that you want to control (there's 5 mono synth parts on the Electribe) on the same MIDI channel as the keyboard controller. In the video here the keyboard is sending data on MIDI channel 1. Thanks for watching, hope that helps!
Hi, I have a problem, both when I use the sequencer and when I record, when I press play the button flashes along with button 1 and nothing sounds, the sequencer does not move through the numbers either. Could you help me or someone help me?
hey, i have an question for you ;). I have a EMX 1 and i have a Roland Alpha Juno 2. Now what i want to do is making my beats just with the emx but i want to use the Juno its sounds for my keyboard parts if you know what i mean. So in this tutorial i see you using your keyboard but you hear the sounds wich already are in the emx. I do not want to use the korg samples but only the samples wich come from the Juno. This is possible right?
Yeah it is. You'll want to go MIDI out of your midi controller (or alpha Juno) to MIDI in on the EMX-1. Then with a second MIDI cable go MIDI out of the EMX-1 to MIDI In on the Juno. Next, click the button on the EMX-1 that says MIDI.. Hit the down arrow key to get to MIDI channel, then select the MIDI channel you want to use for your different synth parts 1-5. Lastly, go to the alpha Juno and make sure it is on the same MIDI channel as the synth part that you want to use the Juno for. The sequencer synth parts on the EMX-1 are monophonic though, so you might want to set more than one of the parts to the same midi channel as the Juno. Also you'll need to turn the volume down on the synth parts on the EMX-1 if you don't want to hear them as well. Hope that helps.
Can you use an EMX as a stand alone, and do you need speakers or are speakers built in? I'm a complete beginner to the world of electronic music and I'm not sure what to buy, I'm not sure wether to buy something like this or something like a MicroKorg or a MicroBrute.
Yeah the EMX-1 is a stand alone groove box with 9 drum parts and 5 Monophonic synth parts. All the sounds are digital. It doesn't have speakers, studio gear typically won't have speakers.. It does have a headphone output though. They don't make this model any more, but you could find one used for a decent price. The MicroKorg is a polyphonic digital synth, and the Minibrute is a monophonic analog synth. So all that stuff is capable of different sort of results, it just depends what you're looking to do, and what other gear you'll be using it with. If you're totally new to the hobby, and don't want to mess with software and all the goes along with that the EMX-1 is a decent way to get started. Thanks for watching and your question..
+MIDI-VERSE TV Okay, thanks a lot :) One more question, would a Marshall amp be okay for this? I have other speakers but yeah, would a guitar amp work?
No problem. No a guitar amp wouldn't work. You want to use something that has a full frequency response, like a PA System, or Studio monitors, something like that.
1st. Love these lessons man. Great groove and great sounds
+brad reilly Thank you, I appreciate it.

never mind. I figured it out immediately after I posted the question.

Great tutorial! Just got mine from Japan waiting on the manual lol....sooooo how do you start from Blank?!?
Thanks
You're just getting one ? That's awesome. I've had mine for ten years and I still love it. It's so much fun.

Caid Johnson click on pattern and use the data wheel to scroll all the way until you see “init” those should be clear tracks.
How do you configure the midi keyboard to play the synth part??

Zajefajowe :-) Czy po nagraniu wszystkich śladów w czasie rzeczywistym, można je potem wyrównać do siatki? Bo jak tak, to to urządzenie jest bajka :-)
Yes, you can go back and edit the parts via the step sequencer after playing them in real time. Very cool machine indeed.

Okay, newbie question...can the whole sequence you built be recorded directly into a DAW? I'm assuming so, just not sure how to go about it.
Yes, if you have a pc with a DAW, an audio interface and the cables :)
how do I get an INIT patch?

Yep, exactly!
