Wow I’ve heard a lot of guys try to describe the industry and what happened back then and John hit this on the head. The good bands are gonna rise to the top.And the industry always shoots itself in the foot.Well put John

He's not saying the cream rises to the top per se. He's saying that the industry is looking for the newest thing when the market is oversaturated. For example, Nirvana and the Beatles weren't good bands, but they were new, fresh, exciting, etc.
What I think was ridiculous about this era is that the record companies are the ones who gave the bands their looks and had writers come in to help write songs that would be hits, and then they cut all the bands because they did what they told them to do. Mark Slaughter's interview touched on that and it's so true. Imagine if the record companies did that to all the 70s bands in the early 80s. We'd have never gotten any of Van Halen's 80's music, or Aerosmith's Pump, or Bowie's albums, just to think of a few. The labels used to cultivate careers - for good or for bad. If the bands sold records, they kept investing in them. That didn't happen with the 80s bands. They were still selling records and they were all mocked and cut from labels for no real good reason. Multiple styles of rock could have continued to exist together.
It would've been a waste of the money it cost to produce. The first album didn't sell well. Why make the same mistake twice? No one was gonna get used to Motley without Vince any time soon.
That album, seems to me, has kinda become a 'cult-favorite.' There is a group of people that love it, and lots of die-hard Vince Neil fans who hate it. Those of us who love it, accepted it for what it was and didnt think about Vince. That was just an awesome album.
I never understood the whole "vince is better" thing... Vince made solo albums. Why not enjoy both? I get it if they didn't like the style of music... but then just listen to the Vince solo albums and be on with it (which, both of that era were good). The band was dysfunctional for whatever reason at that time. Wasn't Corabi's fault.
I love it man my favourite album of motley but mind you I like generation swine as well the chaotic feel of that album makes me feel like a rocket about to go off.
i spoke with Mick Mars son (Les Paul Deal) he told me in an interview without a doubt , his dad loved the record with John Corabi on vocals . it was Mick Mars favorite Motley record....as well as mine. John is a talent for sure.

Loved this interview! I like most of Motley's stuff but the Corabi album was stellar. Great songs. Great sound. And I think Swine would have been much stronger with his vocals on it. I like it with Vince, but Corabi matched the song styles more. I loved The Scream CD too. One thing that stands out about me with John is that after he joined Motley - which was before the Internet was a 'thing' - Metal Edge used to publish the addresses for how to write to the bands. For some reason, I wrote John a quick letter saying how much I enjoyed the CD with him. The dude wrote back... sent me a postcard with a Crab on it and thanked me and let me know he used to vacation with his family near where I lived. Fan for life after that... loved the Union CDs too....

John’s Motley album is by far the best Motley album. Amazing album. Crue were never the same in regards to studio output after the Motley album. I really wish they had have have the nerve to stick it out with John.
They were heavier than fuck when he was in the band. Mopped the floor with soundgarden etc when that record came out. They sounded like a real band and not fluff. MC94 killed.
Never heard of him... ;-) ... lol... I met John my 1st ever night out in Hollywood, seeing Angora at Troubadour, before I joined Tuff late June 1987. The NICEST guy ever... love me some Crab!
I remember the day Generation Swine came out. My buddy and I (both die hard Crue fans) rushed to the record store to get it. We got the album, got in his car, and put the CD into the stereo and we hated it so much. It was so bad. We still talk about that day, "Dude, remember when we first heard Generation Swine and how pissed we were about it?" I think he went back into the store and returned it. John is right...they were trying to be something they very much were not.
I heart John. I will never forget him when he was in Ratt opening for Warrant in Austin,TX at the good ole BackRoom bar. Some douche was sticking the finger at John for a full 15-20 minutes finally John got into it with him and nearly jumped him from the stage!
I keep wondering why this guy is not a bigger rock star. He is awesome. Top 3 vocalist in my book. Skid Row should have hired him as Bach's replacement
Man John Corabi is such a great talent.... been listening to him since The Scream in the 90s and the Album he did with Motley Crue was AMAZING and a welcome change when it came out!!!
Until quite recently, I had never heard the self-titled Crue album. Then I did, and wow. And then I got to hear Union, The Dead Daisies and Scream. And I bought his book too. What a guy, I totally admire him as an artist and person.
I had a promo cassette of the Scream. What I remember is there were great vocals that reminded me of Steve Tyler and the song was really good. Never picked up the album, though.
John, you're a huge talent, endlessly fascinating, and a very modest person. You are someone I truly respect. I wish you and yours continued success, health and happiness. See you live sometime soon when this pandemic is over. Peace🤘
Have the Scream cd laying about - got a download of it about 17 years ago or something. Enjoyed it! John Alderete the Racer X bassist was in it. I heard John turned down Skid Row!
One of the all time great voices in rock. I'm surprised this excerpt completely omits UNION. Blue Room is eponymous and features some of the strongest writing from Corabi and whoever he happens to be writing with, notwithstanding its the band he spent far longer with. As much as UNION is Kulick and Fitz, it's some of Jon's best work. I'm not sure if it's just my opinion, sense it's more of stating the obvious. Look forward to hearing more from him on Recycle channel. Stay safe and well all ✌️ 🎶 🎶
Awesome history lesson. That album is a masterpiece. Poison Apples is my 2nd favorite Crue song ever, next to Wildside, which is my all time #1 by anyone from the 80s (and 90s). No idea about Scott Travis in The Scream.
Brother my take on that first album you were involved in was absolutely 💯 slamming, yeah I was a big Vince fan but you sir bought in a new dynamic. I'm still listening to that album today
Let It Scream is, to my ears, 70's Aerosmith with late 80's production. Just about every song is an absolute banger, if it had been 1987-88, threw 'em on the road opening for Crue, Aerosmith, Poison, whoever.... they would have moved a couple million. Just a year or two late....but man, that '94 album is so GOTdamn good. If you don't know already, get Corabi's live "One Night in Nashville", he does the entire '94 record straight through with a six piece band including his son on drums. You'd swear it was Tommy playing. It is an unbelievable record.
I actually had "Let It Scream" in my 300+ music collection. "Man In The Moon" 💖💖💖 "The Blue Room" from Union was another great album. John has one of rock's most amazing voices. 🥰🥰🥰

I loved the first album he did with them. So heavy🤘🏻
Seeing the Scream in Santa Barbara 2 nites in a row was epic!!!
John is a great guy...not what you would expect. And always does a great show no matter how many people he is playing with...or by himself.
Mopped the floor with Soundgarden..?!! 😲😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🖐️
Never heard of him... ;-) ... lol...
I met John my 1st ever night out in Hollywood, seeing Angora at Troubadour, before I joined Tuff late June 1987.
The NICEST guy ever... love me some Crab!
Thanks Stevie. We love your input. Stay tuned for more great interviews including one from Tuff singer in the coming months.
may not have been a mega star but he garners a lot of respect in my mind \\m//
To this day his is one of my favorite Crue albums.
Great interview, really likable guy. As a big Crue fan, I never really knew much about John until now.
Saw him in 07 when he was in Ratt. F×××ing awesome. Doesn't even look like same dude.
What was his role in Ratt?! 😳
@@teeoh9192 rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Always seems like a decent guy. Great singer.
Love to see him do some more.
I wish him well:-)
This with John was a serious Motley Crue. By far the best Crue album ever. 🤘
what a great thing. Big fan of Scream and I loved John with Motley....Listen to Hooligans Holiday
John, you're a huge talent, endlessly fascinating, and a very modest person. You are someone I truly respect. I wish you and yours continued success, health and happiness. See you live sometime soon when this pandemic is over. Peace🤘
Love to have a beer with John. Cool cat!
I loved the band Union.. i only hope to see another album with John and Bruce . Loved their stuff.
1994 is criminally underrated. Also an evolved guitar sound from Black Album thanks to Bob Rock. Huge sound.
Bob rock worked with Metalica!
Love the video for holigans holiday.. really good album it released Mick Mars....
Killer Album from beginning to end.
Very Underrated. My fav Motley Album.
Raw - in your face metal.
Crabs Rules! Hooligans holiday is one of my favorite Crue songs!
Anyone know the song at 3:55???
Stay safe and well all ✌️ 🎶 🎶
Wow! Great insight. Dude is awesome.
Awesome album , beats anything out there today 🤘🤘🤘
John, the coolest singer in ages!
This album is up there with my top three motley albums !
Cool video and interview with John Corabi....I think the self titled first record John Corabi did with them is a masterpiece and one of the best Crue records ever! Don't get me wrong love the Vince Neil Crue masterpiece many records just as well...cool channel...just subscribed!👍👍
Never heard it.
Crue fan since 1982
John, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this or not, but you were the perfect fit for this band, and the music on that first album was fucking awesome. You don’t give yourself enough credit dude!
Looking back, that music kept up with, or outshined soundgarden, Alice, or Nirvana, which were also my most listened to favorite bands along with gnr and Metallica. Be proud brother!
That 1994 motley Crue album kick major ass in my opinion it's one of my favorites out of the motley Crue catalog that one and too fast for Love and shout at the devil are my best three motley Crue albums in my opinion p
