Thanks for the video. I haven't seen the ferries for years. When we were living in Sumbawa, we made the ferry trip back to Bali three or four times a year. I also like Padangbai. Interesting little place. Take care.
Love this, Wayne! You trek those dusty, sweaty paths that I've trodden. Authenticity, respect, patience, calmness....on a budget! That's a real traveller.👍
@WCMoss I must concede, I am tiring a little of budget accommodation...ever since I made a crucial error at a sh!thole Sth Sanur hotel (name withheld) a year or so ago....I foolishly checked the pillows!! - very bad idea! Looked like they'd found them under a bridge - years upon years of beery sweat and saliva, and ??? stains from drunken Aussies - shades ranging from grey, to brown, to black - there were even actual mould patches! As I silently held these pillows up by the corners in front of the cleaning staff, even they looked embarrassed, and like any good employee, they blamed the boss. I laughed, with them, certainly not at them. They hopped on a bike and went to, I think, Hardy's and bought 2 fresh ones for me. Prudently, I decided NOT to check the mattress.😆
Loved the video I was in Bali only two weeks ago and got sick and didn’t have a great first time but I did a lot of things wrong like food and stuff so hopefully by watching your videos I will be better when I go back
It's sometimes like that the first time, Chris. I like your attitude of picking up a few tips and getting back to give it another try. Some people won't have that approach. Nice!
Great video Wayne as usual, very enjoyable. Doesn't seem to be much interest in the collection of the tourist tax and I can only give my opinion from arriving at the airport and not even asked for or for proof of payment. I paid my wife and my tax online last August before we left Perth but could have ignored it as I am sure many if not the majority do. Looking forward to what you have in store for us! Cheers mate.
Hi Ron. It seems a lot of people can't be bothered paying it if it isn't policed so I think we'll find authorities rolling out a different method of checking or enforcing.
Im glad you have returned to Bali. I enjoy your vlogs from there more than anywhere else. I think the infectiousness of the people comes through on the fast wifi if you know what I mean. Cheers Wayne
A Great video Wayne, I envey your freedom and ability to wander/ Unfortunately (due to circumstances) I am a "Sedintary Gypsy" who travels vacariously through people like you. I have not been to Bali for 40 years and hopefully will be coming there this year to visit a friend who has bought a Villa on Lembogan. I hope to have some time while there, to get away and Wander and Sketch. Thanks for all your hard work, information and insights. Cheers, Muffy
I really liked the Ferry. It is so different and interesting. All the different People. That is what makes traveling to a adventure. But nice to see you back in bali. We will travel in August to Ubud, first time and i can hardly wait for it. All the best from cold Germany with -6 C.
Great video again. Have been to Lombok a number of times, mainly around Sengigi and North though (when you landed at Mataram). Met a lot of lovely people along the way, but sometimes felt an underlying undertone of discomfort. I am encouraged by your videos to travel a little differently in future. Enjoy being back in Bali.
Hi Anne. One of the great joys of traveling through Indonesia and Southeast Asia is its relative safety so you're able to relax and enjoy the experience no matter what level you choose to travel at. Of course normal safety precautions should be adhered to when here but taking local transport is usually fine to move around. Thank you.
PELNI (Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or Indonesian National Shipping) is a company owned by the Indonesian government that serves shipping throughout Indonesia, not an international company.
Selemat Malam, Wayne! Selemat Datang ke Bali & bagus losmen, wifi! When I first started to travel in Indonesia, major challenge was transportation facing aggressive bimo drivers countless times in Bali yelling, “transport”, “darling”, and "shopping".. Then I took a bus to Java & was overwhelmed by the kindness of becak/rickshaw drivers in Java. Now there is Bluebird taxi, hiring a driver or riding a motorcycle(not 4 me) and sharing rides. Take care.
There was a period when Bali was really aggressive in regard to transport and hawkers in some areas and traveling as a woman then would have taken a little patience, I'm sure. I'm glad you found some relief in java. Thanks, liz.
Just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying your content. Is it hard to move permanently to Bali, would you consider making a video in future about your experience moving to Bali, paperwork needed, how to obtain a visa, and a working visa if you have any experience with that process? I'm really interested to leave my country and travel.
Looks like Bali is quite dependant on fruit and produce from the neighbouring islands. Thought that would be the case, but when you see trucks loaded with bananas....it brings it home even more so. Hopefully the Balinese are not subjected to price increases as I imagine most of it is to feed the masses on tbeir holidays. Thanks Wayne..... Great to have you in Bali..... And yes....every so often a burger is a must 🕊🙏💙🙏🌴🍀🦋🐝💎🌨
That's probably a good idea, Noah. A lot of the places come from just being here a lot and getting to know where they are by walking around and asking. i'll make a note of your suggestion. Cheers.
150, 000 rupiah, dude. You can pay online before you arrive or in the airport in Denpasar as you're leaving the terminal at a counter just before you exit.
I paid the Tourist tax online the first time I went to Bali after it had been introduced but havent bothered since. I believe its still voluntary. id be happy to pay if I could see a massive environmental campaign in Bali but not much evidence of that. I always buy a sim card in Bali/Indonesia because wifi is usually poor.. Have to make sure the card permits hotspot because some dont. I can see youre happy to be back in Bali. Back to the incense perfumed air, smiles and friendliness of the people and easy availability of cold beer and burgers. I sense that Lombok like Java can at times be a bit hostile. Great videos of your trip to Lombok but its not for me. Id like to try Raja Ampit and Sumba.
I heard recently authorities will be banning entry soon for anyone who hasn't paid the tax which might just be a bit of local sabre rattling. Having said that, if they did send a few people back home without entry the airlines may then take on the burden of enforcement much like onward tickets.
@@WCMoss I never saw anywhere to pay the tax at Denpasar airport and no one asked for proof of payment. I doubt very much that youre going to get sent home.
@@WCMossway I was told it years ago is the money from the entry fee does go to some very important projects, widow & orphan support, Bhabinkamtibmas (village police). It's always great to get more cleanup & litter education campaigns going, but it's probably an error to assume the fee is misused.
@@retribution999tourist tax is not ‘voluntary’ though it’s reckoned a large percentage of tourists don’t pay so that in itself does not help in where funds get allocated for improvements but that’s another story. Was at Taman Ayun recently they have a tourist police checkpoint and yes,no checking was seen to be done. Balinese are just ‘too nice’ to check maybe 🤔
It was clear to me that you didn't feel relaxed on Lombok. I had the same feeling on Gili T. Some lovely individuals but overall there was a hardness. This was made clear by a small bar owner who described how he threatened a disgruntled customer with death and being chopped up and thrown outside the reef! He also showed me numerous knife scars from fights back on Lombok....
Parts are pretty sure and of course people can be very warm, but I wasn't impressed by a lot of the young fellas I met there. Super friendly around the ladies of course many of whom seem to like them for some reason. But funnily enough it was one of the worst places for rudeness towards my Indonesian wife for traveling with a foreigner. no strong desire to go back.
I used to wear nothing but Teva sandals but now I wear New Balance running shoes because I get plantar fasciitis (inflamed soles) and this shoe offers cushioned soles. If I had a choice I'd still be wearing sandals as they breathe in the humidity but still offer a little support.
Hi Suzy. Is it expensive? I guess it depends on how badly you need one. :) But yes, it's roughly ten thousand rupiah to the Australian dollar which is about $AUD20 for the cabin. - the man said 200,000 rupiah, not 20, 000. I've taken them before just because I needed some space.
Yeah. Knowledge is power my friend. A lot of people don't know or only speak their own language. Then it's easy to get tricked by the local swindlers. I think you understand.
The tourist tax setup is just weird, I mean I don't have to pay it I live here on KITAS I'm not a tourist, but it's allegedly compulsory to pay but not only can you just walk past the desk where you are supposed to pay it at the airport it's actually really easy to just completely miss and not even see if you haven't been here before and the airport is busy with arrivals. I don't understand why the desk to pay it isn't in the arrivals hall or placed in a way you can't walk past it and have to go to it before exiting outside into the pickup area.
I agree it's very easy to miss the desk and a simple booth before immigration with a big red sign would be a much better way to take payment. I think they're hoping everyone will pay it online. I don't think they've done nearly enough to make people aware of it either. Make the airlines request proof of payment before boarding and they'd see an improvement in payment numbers.
@WCMoss Generally I think the visa system has improved a lot over the last couple of years, the egates work for most people now, no more stamps in your passport not even for KITAS, no need to go to immigration to extend many of the various extendable visa's an agent can do it all for you without you needing to go to kantor imigrasi, but there are quite a few bugs in the new system that need to be fixed which I suppose is to be expected it's been a fairly rapid upgrade from a pretty basic manual system to a modern automated system.
