My all time favorite Def Leppard disc. The expanded edition is even better. Rawer, more exotic and spiritually more engrossing, the band was feeling down but they weren't out for the count. They HAD to make this album for them to still be here. Great stuff!
Thanks for lovely stories I bet you guys had wonderful time with fan. I wish you all the best last show in Las Vegas tonight all the best safe travels home thanks for memories rock on Def Leppard ❤️🤘🤘🤘🎸🪄🥂🔥 from New Zealand hope one day they come to New Zealand 🇳🇿.
Slang is their best album, period. Full of allusions to world music, industrial and the classic def leppard sound. It's a mature, modern, honestly timeless record, was a huge influence on me as a kid. Agree with you on that, but Euphoria is also an amazing album too.
I am so sick of people saying that Slang is a shit album. It's actually one of my favourites from them. I absolutely love the song "blood runs cold" that song still reminds me of Steve. As Joe said, as you get older and evolve, you don't want to be putting out the same stuff time and again. As you try different things, not everyone will like it, obviously. I just wish people would have a little bit more class with their criticism than to just say "it's shit" wow...very constructive...anyway, I still listen to Slang, in my opinion, I think it's one of their best efforts.
My band back in High School in 1997 first started by covering "All I Want is Everything". Slang was actually pretty good, different to Hysteria and all that, but they're all good in different ways.
At around this time, and with the help of continued improvements in technology, Rick Allen had found a way to incorporate real acoustic drums into his kit: His foot pedals would trigger various recorded samples taken from himself hitting actual drums, with a range of sensitivity for how hard he would push down on the pedals.
I am sooo confused.. I agree with a lot of people on here that I didn't give the album Slang a fair shake when it came out because it was such a departure from their sound. But NOW 20+ years later I think its really good and underappreciated. What's confusing, and I love Joe btw, is that he said the band got sick of the adolescent rock sound (totally agree, can't get any cheesier than "lets get rocked") and they needed to mature (which this album does very well), so how does that explain the direction of going back to Euphoria and X album where they went REALLY pop and adolescent?? Be true to who you wanted to be as a band! I think they got so caught up in the album not being successful and went back to their poppy, rock sound to try and grab more album sales like in the 80's. I think a Slang 2 in the late 90's (after a lot of people started to really enjoy a more natural sound and lyric that grunge provided) would have done really well. Well, at least we have the Deluxe version to enjoy. Totally love the bonus track "Raise your love" with a powerful guitar riff!!
Garbage? It is the best album from a lyrical point of view they have ever released. I suppose you're one of the people who was crying when they did not release an over-produced drink coaster like the follow up Euphoria. Slang is a great album. The production is great. Rick Allen needs to get back on that kit. Would love to see Leppard release a new album in the vein of Slang.
It was an attempt to fit in what was going on at the time as the '80s style was gone and did not fit in anymore. It's not a bad album and there are some highlights on it. It is dark compared to previous work. Hysteria was nothing with pyromania and adrenalize tried to take hysteria and move it more to the right with its popier sound. This is one of those albums that many of those '80s bands made to try to fit in. Once in a blue moon they might play something off of it but with their extensive catalog they still rely mostly on those two albums.... So Joe's comment on the stupid thing and adolescent is off here. Those albums are their legacy..
Adrenalize was so cheesy and hokey. This was a necessity. Adrenalize is what happens when you try to do hysteria without Steve Clark and Mutt Lange. To me, Slang isn’t the low point. The low point is the X album. Euphoria was a welcomed return to classic sound, and better to me than Adrenalize. It seemed that they gained some traction on Euphoria, and should have built up on that for the next album instead of X.
Yes he is very smart, as well as Phil. You know, to me Joe always seemed egocentric? narcissistic? that fame went up to his head...but I saw the movie the HYSTERIA movie I understood where he comes from, He was the glue of all of them, He never gave up on Rick and on Steve. He just looks stuck up..but he is not. Phil isa guitar genie..the way he riffs..and he is the one that uses sharp comedy to lighten up stresfull times. Sav is the silent genie.Sincerely I don like Vivian at all.
Love this album. Hysteria is the reason I like the band, but Slang is the reason I take them seriously.
It's a shame they don't play much from this album anymore. I'd love it if they play "All I Want Is Everything" again, but also "Worlds Collide."
Crazy, Clark’s work on Hysteria tops everything
Very well said by you. Peace.

Slang is there best record I agree
Joe sitting in the sun with those snug fitting shorts, his blonde hair blowing in the wind NICE!!! Very Very Nice💋
Slang - not a fave when I heard it back then, but every year it just gets better and better to me. A masterpiece.
I love the rehearsal footage and seeing the guys in casual wear!

Thes guys were so good they were still relevant into the late 90's. These guys survived the grunge onslaught that guns n roses couldnt even weather
Deliver Me is one of my favorite songs. Totally underrated. ❤

Joe's in soccer shape here.
