    I learned real quick that BBS is not practical for me and I'm totally ok with that. 2 pass is my limit and usually I do a single pass shave. My goal is to not look like a bum and to enjoy the process.

    I had a good chuckle at Shane explaining thermodynamics / heat transfer with water and skin. I guess that's what a physics major does for you haha. On another note I totally agree with all the points but more specifically with the point against the belief in rigidity based rules around wet shaving. After all it makes sense that different parameters work best for different people since we all have different skin and hair types.
    Experiment and find what works for you.
    PS: Always enjoy your authenticity and analytical approach Shane.

    Good points I completely agree with. Cold/Warm water for me is a seasonal thing, other than that I feel no real difference.

      Same, I can't tell a difference other than it's refreshing to use cold on warmer days.

    Use an electric razor and you will get a BBS Shave. But you won't get a good shave. The electric pulls on the whiskers and then they rebound under the skin. A couple hours later and you have stubble all over. The test of a good shave is how long you can go without having to shave again.

    Disagree with some of this. While I agree there isn’t a magical blade/razor combination, I disagree there is a best blade for your beard. I think hunting that down is a fool’s errand. I believe there are better razor/blade combinations for your beard and those should be striven for.
    As for BBS, I think you end on the right point, you shoot for what you want to shoot for. For me, that’s BBS. I love the BBS feeling, but there are also different level of BBS. There are some BBS shaves where my beard comes back in the later afternoon, and others where it is the early evening (Blackbird). While the Blackbird gives me my single favorite shave, I can’t use it more than two days in a row due to irritation.
    I pick and choose what I am looking for every day and how I want to get there, and smell afterwards 😊. For me, that is the joy of the wet shaving hobby.

      Thanks for watching! I don’t think we disagree at all. Everyone has favorite combinations of blade/razor that work best for them. But there isn’t one blade for any given razor for all people.

    Excellent advice Shane, the only time I introduce cold water is at the end of the shave to close the pores.

      Nice! I end up using cold water pretty often. It feels good and that's good enough for me.

      Me too. Then I use alum block. Then witch hazel. Then aftershave.

    Some of my favorite shaves are two down passes with the grain and leaving it at that. I have to shave too hard to get near BBS on my face and head. Even if I do get a very close, smooth shave. My beard hairs are dark and thick, so it looks like I'm getting 5'oclock shadow soon after shaving. Trying to get glassy smooth may buy me an extra hour or two.

    All good points. One I would add is the 3 pass shave. Why scrape anymore than you have to? One pass with the grain, maybe a second clean-up as needed and done.
    People doing the with, against and sideways over and over are just wasting soap, blades and irritating their skin.

    BBS ideology instilled from boot camp. The quickest way to get a demerit slip pulled was to have dark coarse hair.

    I always thought that hot water prior to the shave, softens the whiskers to make it easier to cut the whiskers.

    • @blacklandrazors
      @blacklandrazors  4 місяці тому +2

      To me that’s a pre-shave thing, but yes I agree. Most people use a shower for this. I’m mainly talking about water temp during the shave itself.

    Hello Shane, thanks for the video. I get clean and comfy shaves with efficient razors like Blackbird; except my neck area. I can see from your videos, you are getting some neck irritation time by time and I have coarse and wiry stubles like you. How can I solve this?
    I do 2 pass-shave with some little touch-ups, and I shave my neck only with the grain. I shave 3 times in a week.

    • @blacklandrazors
      @blacklandrazors  2 місяці тому +1

      The neck is a tough area for me because hair goes crazy directions. Honestly, I think some amount of irritation is unavoidable occasionally. I find my irritation is worse when I use a milder razor. You could try varying your angle through those areas to see if that helps. Necks and coarse beards are tough :(

      @@blacklandrazors yes all of the shaving stuff is tough for coarse and wiry beards, and I were looking for some solutions, thanks for the information :)
