I love the axolotl poem it's one of my favourite things from the series. It also is the only canon thing we have the axolotl say isn't it? i wish Alex gave more informations about him tho, he's so mysterious!

It appeared in a comic before the end of the show, and as this "omniscent, omnipotent being" (basically a God of all the Realms and Multiverses) it said to Dipper, after talking about how he has to say his name to release the crimes to his Home dimension (basically, implying that he "returned" with that very spell as the 2D realm burned him as well). So he did in the 3rd dimension, and it strictly implies that worked. And at the end of the explanation to Dipper, the AXOLOTL concluded with: "He'll have to invoke my Name; One way to absolve his crime; *A DIFFERENT FORM, A DIFFERENT TIME*". So yeah. He is alive and the trick worked. Another proof is that Bill said as he burned away "I INVOKE THE ANCIENT POWER...", which mean that not only he knew about the spell to the Axolotl existed, but that it also worked, and "...THAT I MAY RETUEN" implies that he does not know that as a Mith or saw that power being effective on another enthety; by specifically saying "*I MAY RETURN*" and not something like "the ancient power OF RETURNING". HE SAID IT IN THAT WAY BECAUSE HE KNEW FOR EXPERIENCE. HE ALREADY RETUENED. AND HE DID IT ANOTHER TIME, GOD KNOWS WHY, BUT HECK, HE LIVES. CANON!.
