    I run mine with a piece of gently stretched nylon stocking held to the carb with a zip tie. Breathes good and is just enough to keep anything "big" out of the engine.

      @@HughesMotorizedlol, not trying to argue with ya bud, just because it hasn't Happened to you, doesn't mean it wont to anyone else!? ,, am i wrong ? think about it, on most bikes they are lined up perfectly with each other to where it gets hit with dirt and rain etc all the time,,even taking the filter off and just having the cover with no filter pretty much gives it 100% air flow ,,ive never had the sponge filter kept in my cheap stock filters ,,i take it out, but still think it would be best to atleast cover the intake from being wide open for anything to fly in there! People with fenders obviously this wont happen because the fenders are stopping all the particles from flying up in there.. again not disagreeing with ya but it happens for sure,,

      why not meet in the middle and just remove the cap but keep the fabric filter, easily done by putting the screws back in with washers on em. now you got all the air in the world and no dust getting in.

    I just got an 80cc motor on my shwinn not long ago. I dont have an air filter either. So far so good. Ive tried a few different DIY filters and they just restrict air flow too much. So i just have a screen cover over it to prevent big stuff from getting it. Nice to know im not the only one . Thanks!!

    Off topic but I cut up another muffler and used it to make a resonator. Quieted it down and improved performance. Just used the pipe and capped it then welded it on to existing pipe.

    I ran over 2000 miles without an air filter before something got in between cylinder and piston ruining my top end. I still don't use a filter. Over 3000 miles on new top end with no signs of anything getting in. I ride on paved roads about 90% and thru the woods about 10% of the time. I might try a higher quality air filter at some point but, the stock filters are way to restrictive regardless of how many holes are put in the cover.

    But what about when it rains the air filter cover is supposed to stop water from getting into the engine and flooding it preventing it from starting until the water drys up I've done what you said and removed the filter from my motorised bike and what I just said happened it happened once before to me

    I’ve ran my old motorised without an air filter and it was off its tits eith the amount of power it made and from day 1 no air filter even went near it. It lasted over 1.5 years of abuse and being flogged out its brain and it needed new piston rings that’s all and it’s still running 3 years later

    Put probably around 6,000 miles on my bike and never used an air filter. only time I have an issue is when it rains and I need to park my bike outside and water gets sucked into the carb when I go to start it.

    If a little G clip destroys your cylinder what would a little pebble do going into your breather about the same thing as a G clip I guess if you put on a cheap 80cc without doing anything to the cylinder but if you worked on porting it and balancing the crank ect. Why not put on a air filter my opinion sir be safe

    What is the appropriate octane to run the motorized bicycle? I have been using 87 since 2017 to 2023. I was told to use 91, but will that do any damage?

    • @HughesMotorized

      @@HughesMotorized I have been using 87 on my PK80 engine, and I've been noticing that my parts wear down faster.
      Getting new parts (Piston and cylinder) every 3 months or so is getting expensive using 87.
      I have been noticing that when I am using 91 octane, everything isn't all burnt and scatched up.
      Every single person that has a bike told me to use 91.

  • @michaelbrinks8089
    @michaelbrinks8089 9 місяців тому +2

    I agree, on a motorized bicycle you don't need an air filter.
    (Unless your tire is kicking up dirt directly into the carb intake area) Your 2 stroke bike engine isn't going to last 25 000 miles no matter what filter you use.
    But......there's very good reason every car,motorcycle,truck engine has used air filters for 70-80yrs. The engine will have major wear at say 25- 50,000 miles without one... Even with an air filter, if a truck drives on dusty gravel country roads. It'll need it's air filter & oil/oil filter changed more often.
    An air filter after say 25,000 miles will be caked in dirt. If all that grit went into the engine it acts like sandpaper inside the engine at 5,000 rpm.
    I agree, a 2 stroke motorized bicycle kit doesn't need an air filter. But anyone saying engines in general don't need air filters doesn't know what they're talking about.

    You could get a hundred thousand thumbs up and some people will still insist on an air filter

  • @MikeNBikes
    @MikeNBikes 9 місяців тому

    This is ridiculous, here is why you need an air filter.
    First off, you do have natural elements. I don't want random matter going into the engine. Some of us have put a considerable amount of time and effort into our builds. The BIGGEST issue with this no air filter nonsense is people aren't re-tuning their carbs.
    Tell people to remove their air filter, and re-tune the carb because it will run more lean? Sure.
    Telling the same people to remove their air filter who don't understand what not having an air filter does not only do the engine's health but the tune itself? That's the problem.
    The same people who think this is a good idea, are the same people who refer to their 47mm x 38mm as an "80cc" but once again, someone will make up a has-been story about how they were in World War II with Don Grubee when the concept of introducing MBs to America started, and that they ran the same engine from 2008-2023 and the second they even screwed the air filter in, the bike automatically turned on, propelled forward into a moving vehicle and broke immediately, with the engine in 10,000 pieces flying everywhere as if an IED were detonated inside the engine.
