I qualified thrice upsc mains with zoology as optional and I wrote 3 mains in hcs with zoology as optional , in Haryana botany and zoology are less opted optionals , like in 2023 results announced in feb it was a jackpot for students with anthropology optional, these ppl got really lucky :) obviously they worked hard but others also worked v hard with different optional I was shocked to see many students in final list with anthropology as optional ., u never know what is with optional .. there is no scaling and rationalisation., and there is huge disparity wrt to marks .. one of my friend is topper from LSR and her optional was English literature and she never made it in hcs , she scored less marks in English nevertheless she is IAS now , under 50 rank So in our state services we aren’t v sure when it comes to optionals .. so it can be on lines of uppsc .. add extra papers.. make the paoer tough , let the most deserving and best win 🏆.. it can be level playing field and students will not feel betrayed by seeing the optional marks , THANKU and THANKU Amit sir for voicing the opinions in most genuine way🤗🙏🏻

Removal of option is partiality for science students...now they will only have to study only arts subjects..their graduation subjects seems waste now in civil services

Civil services are not meant for science background students since beginning. Still they appear and have a lot on their plates.
If you are a science student and opting for civil services and that too in this is age of technology has already failed in my opinion and just trying to get employed

It shouldnt be removed but the difference of marks among various subjects can be reviewed….after all students have prepared alot for optional…it would be like waste of time and energy.
Optional shudnt be removed but its weightage can be decreased to 100 marks and there can be two papers of GS of either 150 marks or as it is now(200) of 2 hrs each
Bihar me optional ko mcq based Kar diya gaya hai. This is a good step.

@@Hr11rock students k less hone se kya hota h? Humanities k Paper checkers ko bolna chahiye k agar answer theek h, and is covering every required aspect, then full marks should be given. Aaj kal +2 cbse arts ka result dekha karo, 500 me se 499 marks bhi aate hain.

So for scaling u need particular numbers of candidates like above 200 in every optional
@@Hr11rock scaling ki baat kar hi nhi rhe hain bhai.optional k paper checkers ka mindset theek karne ki jarurat h, pura answer theek hone par bhi 10 me se max 6-7 hi milta h. So this thing needs to be changed. Checkers ko model answer milna chahiye, and agar kisi student ne un sare points ko apne answer me include Kiya h, to use bhi 10/10 milna chahiye.
@@Hr11rock2019, cbse +2 topper Hansika shukla( Arts stream) scored 499/500. In history, pol sc, psychology her score was 100/100. Ye sabhi subjects humanities k hi hain.

Write a short note on F Duties. If you are writing all the duties, source, amendment, everything...then don't you think the answer also deserves 10/10.
So the only need is to provide a model answer to the paper checkers and tell them to give full marks if all points are covered. Why maximum marks in humanities answer is 7/10 not 10/10.
So, proper step by step marking is needed. That's all.

Optional removal is not wise solution according to me bcoz fir toh civil services will only be about humanities subjects ... There can be other solutions like Scaling...
See ase toh non humanities background vale bol skte h ki arts valo ko undue advantage h in writing gs papers both in pre nd mains ... As they have studied subjects already be it in 11th 12th or in graduation ...
Optional was there to provide an edge somehow in mains to those who are from non humanities bg...they can write smart and effective in paper of there respective backgrounds or interests...
And to maintain level playing field optional hona chaheye but with Scaling ...

what is the point of removing the optional subject ?
1. Doing your graduation in any of the subject whether its economics , history , chemistry , mathematics or any subject your study for three years makes your proficient in that subject .
2. Secondly just focusing on general studies will make it more easier of the students of humanities because they have invested their three years of graduation there as compared to medical , non medical and commerce

It is right to remove optional sir. I have scored good marks in geography optional in upsc mains but I am not able to score good marks in geography optional in 3 hcs mains. Worse is that I am still not able to figure out what wrong I am doing in hcs optional. Thus high disparity in optional marks.

Ab hoga level playing field
In my opinion optional is saviour for those aspirants who are lacking behind in GS.There are multiple reasons for not having mastery in GS subjects. In this situation expertise over some techincal subjects really help many aspirants to sail through the exam.
We have also seen the similar kind of trend in UPSC even. Every year marks in optional subjects varies a lot. So based solely on criteria that aspirant having XYZ optional clear the mains exam and even get a good rank should not be the reason for removing optional from HCS.
If this is the only criteria that XYZ optional aspirants are selected, then why the commission itself give a list to chose optional subject of our own choice. Though there may be some biasedness but removal of optional impact lot many aspirants specially having the techinal subjects as their optional.

Dekhiye preparation me we have to strategize for both sure and unsure things , jo information h wo correct h , ab jske hisab se you have to plan your preparation, take decision how much time to give for optional ,balancing both outcome if it's removed and even if it is not removed, I hope this helps in giving some clarity .

4 agar hpsc waalon ko lagta hai ki science side behtar civil servants saabit hogi . to science side bina optional ke bhi better hi perform karegi exam me .
5 jo science , commerce , engrs , DRs etc arts subject lete hain un sabko kam marks hi milte hain . so here also , hpsc is being not only non - fair but also missing out on the talent too .
6 so more marks are for SCIENCE GRADUATEs WITH SCIENCE OPTIONAL only .

In cse mains all subjects qst ask mix in gs so all are equal along with normalize in opt papers and in hpsc full marks 10 out 10 in Sci subjects and 10 out of 5 in humanity subjects so no equally here. No normalize here. In my opinion it is partiality and injustice. There should be mix general questions in gs and haryana gk also related to admistrative post. In gs why 2 math statistics qst. Gap of 60 marks in opt shows injustice.

General Studies already requires significant effort from SCIENCE BACKGROUND STUDENTS, as it primarily benefits humanities students. Humanities students can select subjects that align with their academic background, while science students must study General Studies in addition to their specialized subjects.
Eliminating optional subjects places science students at a disadvantage by removing the opportunity to excel in their strongest subjects. The optional subject system ensures fairness by allowing students to demonstrate their strengths. If science students are expected to study humanities subjects for better scores, it is only fair for humanities students to consider studying science subjects.
I urge you to reconsider this decision to ensure a balanced and fair examination process. Otherwise, it may become UNFAIR FOR SCIENCE STUDENTS, potentially hindering their ability to qualify if there are no optional subjects.
