Buriki One (Hyper Neo Geo 64 Playthrough) with Ryo Sakazaki

- Buriki One was released in 1999 for the Hyper Neo Geo 64 (NGH64). This is a 3D fighting game produced by SNK and released only in the arcades. Sadly it was the seventh and final game developed by SNK on the NGH64 arcade platform and never saw a home release. This game is awesome and would have benefited from a console release and a sequel. This is my playthrough of Buriki One. Enjoy!

Ryo can punch at the speed of sound and throw fireballs, so he's canonically holding back in this game harder than Slayer does in any Guilty Gear.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yea, you are absolutely right. Thanks for the comment!
It's a spin-off.
@@maycooliveira2794 no its cannonicly after aof
At the Oficial Manwha says Ryo have to holding back a lot since the full contact nature of this and the chi based techniques werent allowed

Anyone who doesn’t know, Kyokugen Karate is heavily based on Kyokushin Karate. Which is the real life style created by Mass Oyama. In fact: Tamuka or Mr. Karate is based on Mass Oyama himself. And SNK confirmed that Kyokushin Karate is the style Kyokugen is based on. And there is no hiding it.
Thanks for sharing the info.
Old Kyokushinkai as well, a mix of Goju-Ryu, Shotokan, and Kodokan Judo. Much more like more traditional styles of karate than Kyokushin would later become, eventually essentially becoming a feeder program for KB circuits like K-1 (literally Seidokaikan)
Tamuka.
Ha!
the crowd interacting with the fight by shouting or cheering is just amazing
This gane gets so much love on the channel. Thanks for dropping a comment.
I like the MMA-style nature of the game. Helping matters that some of the character do look pretty rad. All fighters in the game overall I can take seriously.
Call me crazy, but i wish this one had a re-relase on a more advance console. I'd play it.
This game will benefit from a sequel on one of our current gen consoles. The controllers mapped correctly will make this game pure awesome with analog controls. I do agree with your comment as this game never got a release on any other platform and no one from what I know has been able to emulate this. To be able to play this, will mean for one to get the cart and the A board plus an SG. Thanks for the comment.

I love how they adapt Ryo's fighting style to a most realistic fighting game, this game was the goat back then, shame i cant play the game now, i will pay for a sequel ot a least a rereleased in current systems
Too bad SNK doesnt know the love that this game receives. I would definitely like a sequel or maybe a re-release of this game. That would allow everyone to enjoy it. Thanks for the comment!
I like the idea of humanizing their characters hahaha, pretty awesome
@@snkfightfan0187 This is the direction that I wish fighting games went. There is no reason why 30 years later this genre is still mostly in 2D and using "fighting styles" that don't even exist when we know what real fighting looks like. How many fighting tournaments can take place that don't even allow for tap outs, but have grapplers? lol.
SNK's problem with this game is that the Hyper Neo Geo 64 wasn't popular not this game lol. This game is criminally underrated.
@@freebachelor5060 This game is definitely underrated. We need a port asap!
@@snkfightfan0187 Sorry, I just noticed a typo. I meant to say that this genre is still mostly in 2D not 3D, lol. And yes, we desperately need a port. I love SNK, but another Samurai Showdown 5 wasn't needed AT ALL!
One of the rare fighting game where you corner your opponent. The opponent will just fall out of the ring and you are back at the center.
9:56 That K.O. looked so sick !
Thanks for checking the vid out. 🍺

Ora ora ora ora ora ora!
Hyper neo geo 64 games could have been easily ported to dreamcast in that time it would be awesome
Agreed! These would have been awesome on the Dreamcast.
One day MAME, one day
now you can play it =)
And this needs a proper Anime(Kengan Ashura is practically Buriki One in anime form, and the guy who made it was a hard fan of Grappler Baki and Buriki One, and Ohma the protagonist is basically an older adult Gai Tendo)
Thanks for the anime shout out
Exits a oficial Manwha about this game
yeah i mean Gai tendo is literally baki hanma
That Tendo character looks a lot like Baki. It is not a coincidence.
A lot of people have said that.
@@snkfightfan0187 Are you playing on an emulator or actual hardware?
@@knightbrian92 This actual hardware.
The heterosexual version of Baki
The type of technical fighting game I want I can’t stand all the juggle based combos being in all games. The different fighting styles vs each other mesh very well in this game.
Yea, this game is pretty bad ass. Thanks for checking g out the vid! 🍺
Yes, I still try to figure out what the heck does that disgusting juggling have to do with 3d?? Wtf, why does everyone does that lame thing!?
This would've made a really good N64 port considering the controller layout
Of all the games that need a remastered port and a sequel, this is one of the few that never got them. Even the Fallen Angels is getting a complete edition (someday). The technique-focused gameplay, and the variety of moves each character had, offered more depth than even Virtua Fighter 3 at that time.
For me, the closest there is to a follow-up to these mechanics (so far) is Def Jam: fight for NY (yeah, I'm being serious). In that game, when you specialize your character in submissions and wrestling so you can pull off some neat grapples similar to the ones in Buriki One.
I saw this in an arcade venue one time and i did play it, i got my ass handed to me because i didnt knew about the reversed controls lol. Good video man, hopefully you can do a judo run on this game.
Man. I would have liked seeing this out at an arcade spot. I would have gotten my ass kicked too. I mean, the controls take sometime to get use to. A judo run would be a good challenge. 🍻
Damn ive never heard of this game before but it looks cool.
Yeah, no a lot of people have heard of this one. The only way to play it is on the hyper neo geo. There are no ports available on console.
Oh damn, i didn't realize. Mustve been sleeping under a rock or something because ive havent heard of it before until recently.
The graphics look better than n64. Shame the console failed
I believe that this arcade hardware has some untapped potential. Too bad that SNK did not have the financial backing to see this project through. I enjoy owning the system. Thanks for your comment! 🍻
Never saw why the hatred for NeoGeo 64 was so great. It look like it had a bunch of good games (Not a bunch but almost all of them look fun) I honestly dont care if the graphics are blocky because the gameplay in these games just look, solid. I only wish someone out there made an emulator based on this NeoGeo 64 so I can play all these hidden gems.
I have the fighting games but one game I wish I could play would be, Beast Busters Second Nightmare.

This looks great. If this was the first game on the system it would have lasted.
After seeing a few videos of this game i tried to play it on an emulator, but sadly i could not since the emulation isn't the greatest, so i can only hope for either a re release or that fightcade finds a way to emulate hyper neo geo 64 games in good quality
thanks For showing everyone this hidden gem!
No problem. Glad you enjoyed the video and took time to comment!
Wow early baki
Gai tendo was based on Baki
Baki is older
this game was so tough to play. I tried for over a year a little at a time when I went to the arcade but I couldn't improve much. Still fun though.
It takes some getting use to since the stick is used for attacks and the buttons are used for movement. I have often thought of making my own custom stick just for this game. 🍻
Thanks for uploading this video. I have been very interested in this game after watching GuileWinQuote's video on it. I remember my first time playing Capcom vs SNK 2 and never appreciating the SNK guys growing as a Street Fighter fan boy. Eventually I would buy the fatal fury and art of fighting collections for PS2 and finding a new appreciation and favoritism towards their heroes and storytelling, the latter of which I still believe to be ahead of its time.
Ryo was always interesting to me because he always came off as a shoto clone, but I soon learned he had quite a few unique and badass moves of his own. That being said, much like others have stated; I really do dig this more grounded version of the character, both in appearance and fighting style. Also, I think the facial hair works better for him than it does Ryu in Street Fighter 6! (He had it first after all XD)
If possible, I'd love to see you do another run as Ryo in his alternate costume (I've only found blurry screenshots and a fan art of it) and definitely a Gai Tendo playthrough! I loved the Baki anime series and need to see what his double is capable of.
Thanks again for the awesome upload of a forgotten classic.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and comment on the video. Time to break out the Hyper Neo and do another tournament run with Ryo.
This is a nice looking game, I heard this game wouldve been a playstation game but never did.
I wish SNK would bring this to the new consoles as an ACA release. I know a lot of people would enjoy it. Thanks for the comment. 🍻
Little known fact: The closest thing to this on a console was SAVAKI for Sega Saturn. Sega tried to make this and release ut several months early(1998), but failed to secure the rights to the name because Sega and SNK disagreed on how it should be made. So Sega changed the characters( still same styles) and changed the name to Savaki and released it anyway. So it's basically Buriki One on a console.
I use translation software

I have a hyper 64 and would love to have this game. Looks so good and I’m annoyed it’s so expensive
Yea, this game is pretty awesome. To bad the retro arcade stuff has gotten pricey.
Timeless.
Ryo without a fireball is not the same!
Yea, but I like the MMA style of the game. The tournament does not allow for fireballs. 🍺
So this is basically a SNK MMA game
This is a very unique fighting game. It can work in today's market.
I just wish they remake this game and bring it to consoles YES I KNOW some fighters may there appearance in K.O.F.11 as hidden characters BUT I'm talking about this game looks unique and fun as well
I can agree with everything you wrote. The game is definitely unique. The control scheme alone makes it unlike any other fighter. The game is a tone of fun and I love the tournament atmosphere. Reminds me a lot of UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship on Dreamcast. Thanks for the comment!

@@snkfightfan0187 There's a game on the Sega Saturn called "Savaki" that is Sega's version of the game. Sega initially worked on this game with SNK, Sega and SNK had a falling out on how the game should be done as Sega wanted it to include more Fatal Fury characters(Joe Higashi, Axel Hawk, Hwai Jai), but couldn't get the rights to use the name and characters, so it changed the game somewhat and released it anyway(in 1998, months before SNK's official game "Buriki One".

*Buriki One* looks like a really good 3-D Fighting Game, but sadly it won't probably be as a worthy Competitor to other 3-D Fighting Games like Tekken, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive and even Virtua Fighter (When it was Alive back then).
I can see Buriki One being passed up in the arcades for more of a mainstream fighter like the ones you mentioned. Believe me, the control scheme, charecters and tournament atmosphere, makes this worth playing and mastering. The gameplay is mad fun and the graphics are nice. An early take on MMA before its popularity. Thanks for the comment!
