  • As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases. 🌾I've propagated plants for many years, but for me, summer time is not a great time to propagate because of the heat. But these cuttings are doing great 👍
    🌿Propagating blackberries is really very easy. 😎Anyone can do it, and get free plants.
    Most blackberry varieties are "patented" so they can't be sold, but I as far as I know, it's OK to propagate for your own use.
    Anyway, Check it OUT ❕ 👀

    Alan, when I propagate I use clear coke 2-liter bottles to cover each plant in a growers 1-gallon pot. Just cut the bottom 1 inch off. In high heat, I take off the bottle top. And place in morning sun only. Then when you want to harden it off, I take popsicles sticks or pencils to trice up the bottom of the bottle. Works great for roses and other plants too. Don’t know if your interested or not but wanted to share. Take care!

    Question about the big wicking tubs, I only could find 4 inch size black drainage pipe, and it is solid. Should I drill lots of small holes in it before placing in bottom of tub? I live 35 miles from Lowes or H D. so I got what was in stock.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  4 роки тому

      I am using 4 inch too.
      I've heard Leon say you don't have to drill holes in them... so I don't think it's necessary.
      I like my Hybrid tubs best. Here's how I made them:

    i live in grand saline texas which is not far from bob wells nursery. i tip cut my prime ark freedoms to make the laterals come out and rooted the tips. this variety just seems to do great here in east texas.

      Think you live fairly close. You ever want to come out I might have some other stuff you might want to grow. 3778 cr 1712 Grand saline Texas. Been grabbing elderberry off side of road. Got all sorts of stuff out here. Number is 903 638 5315. Going to try to get into doing some blueberries too.

    Where can I find the prime ark freedoms? I planted the thornless quatichata berries 2 years ago and I'm very disappointed in the berries. I'm in deep east Texas.

    I have been trying to start blackberry from seed that I got from fruit from grocery store .. no luck yet have some stratifying in fridge seeing if that will help..

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  4 роки тому

      Propagation is so easy, you should try it instead of trying to start from seed.
      Find someone close to you that had blackberries and see if you can have their cuttings when they prune :)

    When is the best time to propagate blackberries? I need to propagate mine, but I don't want to do it during the hot weather.
    How long do blackberry plants usually live?

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  4 роки тому +1

      Unless you are in a very hot climate, try the propagation now.
      When ever you have cuttings... propagate.
      I've heard they live 8 to 15 years... but I think it varies by variety.
      Just not sure.

    Alan, I live in IA, zone 5- will blackberries survive winter here in containers?

    • @BrianBerriosOne

      Blackberries will survive in the ground in zone 5

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  4 роки тому

      Man... I just don't know enough about your cold climate to answer that.
      I have heard of folks putting some sort of insulating material around their containers in the winter... so I'm sure there is a way to do it.
      Contact your local nurseries. If they SELL berry plants... and keep them all winter in their pots... I would think it would work for a larger pot like these.
      Contact Ed at BobWellsNursery.com and ask him.
      Tell Ed I sent you :)

    Can you help me figure out what variety of blackberry I have? I bought a group of ten last year, I thought they were all Poncas. I planted them with your videos, and they are thriving, thank you very much. BUT...all of them have white flowers, except one, it has pink flowers. I know this happened to you, and you got a Prime Ark Freedom and love it. Does it have Pink flowers? Do you know of any of Dr. Clarks Berry's that have pink flowers? I have not been able to find that info out anywhere, as of yet. I will have to write to Dr. Clark if you can't help me!

    • @BIGALTX

      I think most Poncas are white, but sometimes there are color variations in the blossoms

      @@BIGALTX Thanks for responding, I will forward my question to Dr. Clark and let you know what he says. I used to grow and show roses when I lived in California and I know Rose Bushes occasionally would throw a "one off" and that is how new varieties can pop up. It's rare, but it happens.

      If nurseries keep them all winter long in their nurseries without any special care, I think they would be fine in a large container like these. Check with a local nursery.

      I've never raised TC blackberries.
      But no, all new varieties are "patented" and therefore cannot be propagated and sold without permission.
      Sorry.
