Blaze Key poses for sure. I try to do it even for breakdowns. There’s always a moment when you either can’t do it or it doesn’t matter (during really quick moves, motion blur hides it etc.), but I try to keep readability at all times if possible.
A-MANX Depends on the actions! Don’t change direction of their bodies too quickly. Think about weight and momentum and inertia. Smaller parts can move faster.
Jean-Denis, thanks always for posting great content and for the webinar hosted at AM! As you recommended us to comment here, I was wondering If you would consider to do a demo reel analysis of one of the animators I admire the most these days: Dave Hardin. Here is the link of the reel that keeps me motivated for my future career as animator: vimeo.com/392404365 The reason behind is, that his reel breaks so many rules for a standard demo reel: from length of the reel to adding music and cutting scenes. The fact that his reel works as a trailer is worth understanding why it works so good. Hope to see you on the next Friday webinar!
Laura de Haro The work is absolutely stunning! Personally I was ready to stop half way through. It’s very long and I wouldn’t mix the VFX shots in it. But that’s just me. A reel you send yo a company or supervisors to apply somewhere needs to be shorter (people are busy), mixing styles doesn’t help the focus of the reel either. As a general reel online for everybody to see and to showcase the breath of work it’s fantastic!

Hey JD, Do you have any tips for animating Dragons? or any big bad creatures?
A-MANX Depends on the actions! Don’t change direction of their bodies too quickly. Think about weight and momentum and inertia. Smaller parts can move faster.
