I remember when this show initially aired in ‘85. I was hooked. Two things to look for: 1.) there is audio of the VO bloopers that’s hilarious. A2.) read ThunderCats: The Return by Wildstorm/DC. It’s about Lion-O entering the Book of Omens for more training, but is unknowingly trapped there for years. When he returns, MummRa has won. The reveals of what happened to Cheetara and WilyKit & WilyKat are very dark.
I loved Thundercats! the show in the 80s was great and I had a few of the toys as a kid. The 2011 show was really well done and it was shame that it didn't last long. Kind of similar to what happened with the He-Man remake. We don't talk about Thundercats Roar...
Having grown up in the '90s, I didn't learn about Thundercats right away, but I found out about the series through a trailer featured on my copy of the Batman cartoon DVD. I remember how just the small amount of footage from the trailer got me curious about Thundercats. I quickly went out in search of the Thundercats DVDs. I was also very quickly pulled into the 2011 series excitement during my early adult years, and I have a great deal of love for both versions of the characters and their adventures. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Though I may have encountered the franchise differently, just being part of the extended crowd of fans and embracing the wonder of the story makes me proud to be a Thundercats fan!
Ah, that nostalgia! I watched the OG as a kid when it came out, another brilliant episode cheers! BTW, the split second you mentioned LJN, i reflexively thought of theAVGN 😂
I also felt the they had a fantastic music score! Each character had a great piece of music. This show was magical to me. 🎩👏 Tygra was my favorite score.
I have the entire series on dvd and loved watching this when I was a kid. Now I have 2 young kids I will have to go in my attic and find them to show them a great cartoon.
I recently have done this with The real Ghostbusters with my 2 boys of 11 and 5 , watch all seasons over a few weekends brought great memories of me and my grandad when I was young.
My cousin introduced his daughter to He-Man and She-Ra, and she was like, "Princesses can have SWORDS!?" They dressed up one Halloween with her as She-Ra, my cousin as He-Man, and his wife as the Empress. They went to a local park that has a castle gate entrance and some decorative towers and filmed the most epic Halloween video ever. So absolutely show your kids! If I had one, it'd be a steady diet of all the old 80's cartoons I grew up on. Nothing modern.
I always love the fact that you can put out a new video, and give me another slice of my childhood that i need to introduce to my kids. Thank you for that Minty.
Rankin Bass previously worked with Japanese studios to produce the obscure Festival of Family Classics series. It never had a proper DVD release although some episodes were released on DVDs and all on various labels on VHS.
I had never heard of this ThunderCats live shows until I saw retrospective videos like this one. They probably just didn't tour through the part of Idaho where I grew up.
I adored this show as a kid and still do today. I used to the have plastic sword for the Eye of Thundara as a kid, and still have a picture with it from one of my birthday parties as a kid in '80's. Sadly I don't know what happened to it. I do however still have my Lion-O and Mumra figures but no accessories. I really wish they would make another series.. the one in 2011 was enjoyable and I was really upset that they cancelled it without a conclusion. Anyway, thanks for the awesome video Minty!!
I loved this episode, Minty. Awesome. Also I wanted to say that I did see the thundercats live show when I was 8. From what I can remember, yummy and pokey for some reason went into their tv and that's where they met the the thundercats including mum-ra. Also I know there other shows being seen but the only other ones I can think of were the silver hawks. I remember seeing copper kid on cables doing flips and going across the stage with quicksilver. Oh and I also saw mum-ra falling into the audience. The characters were all on skates. And they were chasing mum-ra with a mirror.
Having watched the show back in the day and as an adult with my kids I came to a conceptual understanding of the show that is deeper than most. The cartoon is actually not about alien cat people, mutants, or immortal mummy devils! It's about three powerful red stones, possibly from space or another dimension, possessing abnormal powers and functions. The first red stone is the 'Mystic Eye of Thundara' which psychically bonds to it's possessor. It will come to your hand, give you psychic visions, and project your intentions. The Sword of Omens is not The Eye of Thundara. As Panthro states in the series, he can easily create another sword but could never duplicate the Eye of Thundara. The swords power is a type of metal expanding effect which most of the Thundercats weapons or armor have and is part of the Thundarians advanced science. Cheetaras' staff, Tigra's whip, Panthro's armor, all use this same metal expanding technology. The other two red stones are embedded in the head of Mum-Ra and make him immortal, able to fly, change shape, basically cast his psychic will on others. Knowing now that the cartoon was made in Japan helps to explain the extraordinary level of quality in it's art and animation. I assume that Silverhawks was also created there as it is essentially a sister show to Thundercats. Having the moral lessons woven into the writing was much better than the cheesy PSA end spots in cartoons like He-Man and GI Joe. My favorite lesson from a Thundercats episode was from when Lion-O was speaking with Willa about who would win in a battle between him and Hachiman. Lion-O said that Hachiman would win because of his experience. Willa said that Hachiman believed that Lion-O would win due to his youthful speed and dexterity. Lion-O answered the query with a powerful statement that brought me to tears. "The truth is. Nobody wins in a duel!"
Another great trip down memory lane. Honestly, who didn't just have a big box of action figures and make their own Thundercats, He-Man, Silverhawks, TMNT, GI-Joe crossovers?
I remember being disappointed and confused why the Thundercats Action figures were so much bigger (and slightly less quality) than the He-Man action figures, too big to play with He-Man at the same time. 😂
Awesome video. Immediately transported me to my childhood again. I had ALL the action figures - even the mail away Mumra but I remember feeling sad I never had the vehicle or play set.

loved the thunder cats used to watch it after school, my fave was cheetara and in the 80s one there was also unicorns ❤🦄, they looked like "The last unicorn" as rankin& bass did the last unicorn to they look very similar :)
Fo decades, the vintage toy community wanted a collectors guide to this toy line. Earlier this year, Hall of Omens was released, yeah!! This was big in our hobby.
Of all the episodes I remember as a kid, the 5-part trial of Lion-O besting his cohorts and taking on Mumra without his sword were the only ones that resonated with me and I still remember today. It was such a departure from the regular series because it was serious and without the usual comedic banter that it made them memorable.
maybe it's the accent but the home planet is Thundera, it sounded like Minty says Thundura. Also Tygra is pronounced like 'ty-gra' instead of 'Teegra'. Last I swear I heard Panthra instead of Panthro
I remember when it first aired in my area. they had it come on at 7:30 or 8:00pm which was weird on its own, but then every airing after, they only ran the same episode. it was never a part of my Saturday morning cartoons on the big 3 ABC NBC and CBS. those were the only channels we could get then besides the public station. as I recall they aired Thundercat's either before or after the Disney show. that was so weird they did that, especially now with hindsight. I downloaded the Thundercat's original episodes and its one of the few that was good enough to entertain me even now. it doesn't come off cheesy and stupid like so many others I've tried to watch again.
It's ThundEra. Not ThundOra like you mispronounced it. Also It might be spelled Tigra, but you mispronounced that as well. It's pronounced like TYgra. Not sure how old you are, but it seems doubtful you have ever seen the show when it was on the air, and the mispronunciation calls your credibility into question.
I never knew there was a 2011 Thundercats. Perhaps the lack of promotion was the problem. I don't even remember seeing the figures at toy stores. Because it's true that fans of the original will watch any newer versions and many times the adults will buy the figures as well.

Along with many 80's cartoons, Thundercats had an Awesome Theme Song!
Dude! I am 100% from that timeframe and was a HUGE Thundercats fan, but the stage show was completely unknown to me and I absolutely love it, lol.
I know a lot of comic relief characters like Scrappy-Doo & Bat-Mite get some much deserved hate, but I still love the heck out of Snarf!!
The toy Thundertank was immense. I loved it
My absolute favorite!
Great show as usual, Minty! Along these lines, how about a deepcut: Thundarr, the Barbarian?
I'm so glad you uploaded another badass video! Makes me feel like I'm watching Saturday Morning Cartoons! Thank you as always, @MintyComedicArts !!! ❤❤❤🦁🐯
"ThunderCats, HOEEEE!!!" 😅😅
And ThunderCats Roar looks like a freaking FEVER DREAM! WTF WAS WHOEVER THINKING WHILE MAKING THOSEVATROCITIES?!!?
Couldn't get here fast enough!!!!!
Thanks for the video.
Im from uk and i remember watching thundercats in 1986
I think if anything this show was underrated. The fact that the popularity at the time only lasted a year and a half is a travesty
You have always been awesome...NOW YOU ARE LEGENDARY!
Rumor has it, comedian Carrot Top took inspiration for his look from the Thundercats stage show.
loved the thunder cats used to watch it after school, my fave was cheetara and in the 80s one there was also unicorns ❤🦄, they looked like "The last unicorn" as rankin& bass did the last unicorn to they look very similar :)
I fuckin loved Thundercats.
Fo decades, the vintage toy community wanted a collectors guide to this toy line. Earlier this year, Hall of Omens was released, yeah!! This was big in our hobby.
A ThunderCats meeting He-Man story is expected, but ThunderCats vs Superman is wild, even more than Batman vs TMNT.
I'd love to see minty cover the following
Street sharks
Swat kats
Gargoyles
Please minty
Love your stuff, keep it up bro
Thundercats are about to crossover with MOTU in action figure form!🐯🐅🐾⚔
One of my top 3 young childhood cartoons! Such a great show!
Minty!!!!!!! You are a Thundercat! 😂😂😂😂😂
Of all the episodes I remember as a kid, the 5-part trial of Lion-O besting his cohorts and taking on Mumra without his sword were the only ones that resonated with me and I still remember today. It was such a departure from the regular series because it was serious and without the usual comedic banter that it made them memorable.
Oh heck yes!! Those were my favorite episodes too!
maybe it's the accent but the home planet is Thundera, it sounded like Minty says Thundura. Also Tygra is pronounced like 'ty-gra' instead of 'Teegra'. Last I swear I heard Panthra instead of Panthro
And there's only ONE sword of omens, unless they added one in later seasons
I went to that Thunder Cats live event. I remember having a blast!
Thunder cats was created by the Rankin Bass company. The company behind all of those stop motion Christmas specials. 😊😊😊
And gumby
Host is reminiscent of Chief Wiggum in sound and look.
Thundercats remains a fave of mine. I loved the reboot in 11
Thanks for sharing Minty!!! 😁🤩
One of my most favorite cartoons!!! 😍
I own the DVD collection 😃😁🐯🐅🐆
The 2011 reboot sucked. It was an insult to the original 1985 series.
It was better then the HeMan remake by Smith
I really liked it. I also hated the original as it was repetitive and boring.
2011 What's a good series, It was a shame that they canceled it.
The mostly one that sucked is Thundercats roar.
Great job ❤
It's ThundEra. Not ThundOra like you mispronounced it. Also It might be spelled Tigra, but you mispronounced that as well. It's pronounced like TYgra. Not sure how old you are, but it seems doubtful you have ever seen the show when it was on the air, and the mispronunciation calls your credibility into question.
yeah thought I misheard him.. guess I didn't..
You must be new, he mispronounces certain words in EVERY episode. I suspect he does it on purpose.
I never knew there was a 2011 Thundercats. Perhaps the lack of promotion was the problem. I don't even remember seeing the figures at toy stores. Because it's true that fans of the original will watch any newer versions and many times the adults will buy the figures as well.
I never knew about the 2011 version. I have great memories of the 1985 version. Great video!!!
Im 41 and I still love Thundercats. Here's to hoping we get a revival that completes their quests, Ala MotU revelations
42 here and still a fan. Thundercats ho.
I still have shirts with snarf on it. I loved this show.
