Hubby and I expanded our garden, and have 4 feed barrels we put holes in and filled them with potatoes, & veggies. We quit eating bread last year, but I have loads of flour to make it. I've been making it and trading it with our egg lady, have been giving it to my elderly neighbours, and a seed grower down the street has been giving us all our garden starts for free, while l've been giving him my bread. Such a blessing to have great neighbours and people I can trade with.
    • PS, I just found Springer Mountain chickens, who have the best organic humanely raised chickens, and you can order directly from them. Check them out, they're from SC and are independently owned.

Two of my friends and I have been practicing bartering over the last year. We have bartered homegrown seedlings, cuttings, seeds, homegrown produce...But there are lots of things you can set aside for bartering, like tobacco products, alcohol, beauty items...just think what kinds of things people might really want. But also be careful who you deal with. Never go alone.

Peanuts. I had grandparents, an aunt, uncle and their 3 children (my cousins) living in small town Portales, NM. My cousins used to say, "Portalezzzzz......peanut farming capital of the world!!!!" Well. Portates' peanut plant caught on fire 3 weeks ago and is still burning. Fire chief made a decision to let it burn itself out.....with 6 million tons of peanuts inside. Stock up now. There's some serious "climate change" going around with our food production plants these days.

I bought a bunch of chicken on sale and told my dad about it. He gets his stuff from local farmers and butchers, my work schedule just doesn’t allow for me to do it usually. He goes “I have tons of chicken here you could’ve had” I go “oh so now you tell me!”
I have to say I’m always grateful we do live near such a huge farming community. We rarely experience the meat shortages thanks to the local guys, and several other shortages didn’t touch us thanks to all the local farms.

We generally (we're in Canada) will stock up on the condiments to see us through the year. Several years ago Walmart was selling plastic seal tight tubs, so I bought one. When I got home, I looked it over and knew exactly how to make my own. It was a bit 'pricey' compared to the regular tubs with lids and 'clamp down' handles. All you need is the window sealing stripping that you put around drafty windows. Since it has adhesive on the one side, you put the tape on the lid. Then, when you close it on the tub, it's sealed. It's great for storing dried goods. Plus, you can stack them, which takes up less space.

    Amalgamated supply chain report here.
As of right now, I'm not seeing any shortages of tuna or canned fish, at the store or food bank level (I service a bunch of them). At the store level, facings are tray-packed rather than fronted. You should have no issues picking up a dozen cans anytime you want. At the food bank level, they have cases upon cases of tuna and salmon. They should be well-stocked well into the future.
Where I am seeing issues is the institutional supply chain, specifically rice and salt. I service the kitchens for a major university in the northeast. Institutional packs of salt (three-pound boxes) are in very short supply. Based on what I'm tracking weekly, kitchens are transferring salt back and forth. No college kitchen is going to blow through three cases (108 pounds) of salt in a week (four cases down to one). One kitchen went for weeks on end without even one case of salt coming in from Sysco.
Rice appears to be rationed on orders. It looks like kitchens are allowed to place one big order per month and are limited to one or two bags/cases beyond that. Stock levels over the course of a month run from full pallet to depleted pallet. I'm also seeing what appears to be very small orders coming into the biggest kitchen on campus.

@@tiffanyisaacson1407 Forever stamps are still good even if the rates go up. So if you bought stamps before the rate increase you can still use them after the increase. It's for standard postage, if you mail something more than 1 ounce you will need to add additional postage.

You will also have to pay extra postage even if it's an ounce or less IF it's bulky. Happened to me once. They said it was because they couldn't put it through the machine. That it had to be hand sorted. 🙄

I'm in Canada and I am also noticing prices going up fast while many things becoming hard to find. Ketchup seems to be one of them hard to find things to buy on Amazon. I just bought a two pack of Heinz Tomato Ketchup 1.25L per bottle last month and the next day after I ordered it it's now showing "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." I'm also seeing this a lot on chocolate bars both the big boxes and the signal bars. There used to be tons of rice options to pick from ten months ago now it's maybe a third of what there used to be the rest went out of stock and never came back in stock. Snacks also seems to be hard hit the choices of snakes have gone way down over the last year one by one going out of stock and never returning back in stock.
The local stores are not much better stock wise(Prices are a lot higher at the local stores vs Amazon)
I started stocking up about two years ago buying a little bit extra each time now I have a good stock pile to keep me going if needed to for a while.

A lot of people will not buy expensive food and coffee so they either cut it out or cut back or drink something cheaper and look at cheaper food to put on the shelves that they eat . I have never seen a shortage on anything most stores only get one truck a week and with all the people getting EBT card they shop from 1st to 10th of the month mostly unless they are homeless then they will get it when they run out .
I'm sorry I will not pay that price for candy bars and pop and chips which is junk food and bad for you . When you talk about ecolli and salmonella think about all these people crossing our borders and using the bathroom in farm field and next to the rivers and in the woods while they are waiting to get in or walking across the boarder undetected . Get a water purification from my patriot supply or 4 patriot supply save up get the charcoal filter one they hold I think 2 gallon for 400.00 this will be my next purchase .

I switched from Diet Coke to the Aldi diet coke which is only $3.99/12 pack. I don't like to pay more than $3/pound for meat, so now it's less hamburger and more pork and chicken. Now I have to quit olive oil because it too expensive! Walmart Great Value olive oil 101 oz is now $32.97!!!

HI Danno, I've been watching you since I joined your channel 6 months ago. My question for you is you go to a lot of stores but you never go to Save A Lots. Your saying stores are not having certain some items or not getting them. Or try Amish markets, the one near me always has spices by the pound and bunch of other things. Just a thought.

  • @imafan26

Be careful stocking up on bulk sizes of some things like cooking oils and peanut butter. You need to be careful to be able to use it before it goes rancid. Some things like spam has an incredible shelf life but you don't want to stock up more than you can use before it goes bad. Canned tomato, pineapples, canned milk, and hot sauces don't keep that long after they expire.

Danno, canned fish may not be at the big box stores because the suppliers will not take a lesser prices. There is hardly any to be found so they want more money and that is a good thing people will not abuse but use food that they pay more for.

I'm very lucky, I can my own tuna. But I do buy some cans and the little bags when it goes on sale. I feel like I'm good on coffee. Look on the clearance racks at your grocery store. I always find coffee there. But I'm not picky Also noticing baking items low at Aldi. Lots of cereal, but unless it's on sale, it's too expensive.
