These quick question videos are great. That way we don't have to try to maneuver through a 45 minute video to find the answer to our question. Thanks Tina!
A lot of people I know have either changed out the stock transmission with a '39 transmission or the Mitchell transmission that are synchronized. That's ok, but I enjoy shifting the stock trans. It's like a game of skill , and patience to not grind at all. This ain't no M-22 rock crusher by no means! Good video-Dino Falabrino
On a Model A you are actually sliding the gears and pulling the gear teeth in and out of mesh. On a heavy truck transmission, the gears are in constant mesh. When you shift you are actually moving another part called a drive dog. It is hex shaped and slides into a female hex in the center of the gear which locks it to the shaft. You won't damage gear teeth by floating the gears on a heavy truck transmission, but you will put some wear on the drive dogs if you aren't good at it.
I really like this format of questions! It’s just enough to keep my interest! When there is an hour of questions and answers I feel overwhelmed and stop listening after a few minutes! This to me is just right! I think you’re on to something good here!
If you switch a dash lamp to LED, be sure to choose a tower form-factor bulb with most of the diodes on the side. Bulbs labeled for 12V can be a good choice here because the 6V power will decrease their light output to "just-right" levels.
My early 30 coupe has a 29 dash and instrument light. I converted it to LED. Nicely illuminates the speedometer, ammeter, water temp gauge and fuel gauge.
I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to "backlight" the meters using a High-bri-led (plus a resistor to lower the current, of course. Like many are doing to light the scale of their vintage stereo. But as I don't know how that meter-panel is constructed, it's just a (very) wild suggestion.
Thank you for these question and answer sessions! Thanks to watching many of your videos, I finally took the leap and purchased a 1931 narrow bed closed cab pickup. It runs and stops pretty well, but it is beyond what you have described as "hooptie". I have searched UA-cam, but have not found any videos that showed how to adjust door latches and what the correct fit is on the rear of the door where it overlaps. Can you provide any guidance on adjustment and what good looks like on a properly closing Model A door?
Nice idea you two to have the old radio style voice introduction and ending the video. Paul, In the old days did they distort the voice by talking through a megaphone?
'Floating' the gears...short answer: yes you can. Second half: No, you should not! The reason is two fold: excessive wear if not executed very deftly, and the risk of shock load to the gears. Best avoided by simply using the clutch. Clutch to neutral, release/pause, clutch to gear. 'Nuff said. Good stuff! Later guys!
@@Modeltshinn You may not know that I was an over the road truck driver for many years. I quit driving because of health reasons. Afterwards I was an instructor and CDL tester for eight years. So it could be said that I know just a little bit about trucks and the operation of such. Yep. The State wants to see 'double-clutching' during the test/exam. But if people wanna tear up their car or truck, that's on them. If yer gonna be dumb, ya gotta be tough! Haha! Have a nice day!

Paul, the early '30s ( June and earlier)have an oval speedometer, and their dash light is the same as a '28-'29 dash light. I know this because my Coupe is a May 30, and it has an oval speedometer. Great video, as always.

Another great pointer, thanks Model T and Paul! Have a safe night and a good day tomorrow!

The simple questions are a good format for Model T. It helps identify and separate her channel from Paul’s

Wow, I had a feeling it’s like that for a lot of people, I’m happy you like the new way 💗
great tips Paul and Model T
THANKS again, friends!! The advice not to "speed shift" is a good one!! DON'T do that you will wreck the transmission!! Don't ask me how I know!

2:05 Nickle finished dashes a bit less reflective so less glare.

Thanks 💕
Great Q&A 👍
Daily short Q&A. I like it
Thank you 💕
My 1930 5 window coupe doesn't have a light. So I use a flash light to see my dash when needed! Lol
Awe bummer! Good improvise 😁

Interesting, I’ll have to see what @paulshinn says for that, he’s the expert in that area 💗

I learned to double-clutch the old fashioned way... if it feels like you have to force it, DON'T!!!
@@timnewman1172 Amen, brother! Two fingers and a thumb. All finesse, no force!

No
