How to Win Population: One | Part 1 | Location, Movement, and Building Tips

- Watch this if you want to know the best tips and strategies to be good at Population: One, the definitive VR battle royale. In this first part of the series, I go over tips for how to move throughout the map, best locations to find look, as well as some tips to use building to your advantage.

-SUMMARY-
Location is extremely important in this game. You have to drop somewhere to find good loot quickly, and then you have to position yourself in advantageous places within the zone to give you the best chance at winning. Most of the games I lose are because of bad positioning, and most of the games I win are because of good positioning.
Avoid dropping near other players. I do this on occasion, but knowing full well that I'm gonna have to find weapons before them and fight them off before they know what hit them.
Also, try to drop in loot hot zones. There are certain parts of the map that have more spots for loot to generate. While all types of loot can be found anywhere on the map, certain areas tend to have more loot. As of the recording of this video I find that cemetery, armory, and farmlands tend to have a lot more loot close together compared to the rest of the map.
One last tips is that you don't have to take the pods, you can just jump off the platform. This is useful if the platform is close to a good looting spot, but you have to be careful to see if other teams are dropping as well.
Before we talk about where to position yourself, let me give you a few tips regarding movement, and the best ways to get around the map
First, flying is much faster than walking. If you need to run from the zone or from an enemy team, climbing up a building and flying will move you more quickly than running ever will.
That being said, be careful when flying in the open air across long distances or over other teams. Other players can easily hit you mid air, leaving you defenseless.
Also, as you fly through the air, remember that you can take fall damage, so if you decide to drop, remember to spread your arms at the last second to avoid taking damage.
Now let's talk about climbing. Climbing is essential to this game, and you have to know how to climb quickly to get away from enemies or to ambush enemies.
When climbing, you can toss yourself up, instead of just purely climbing. This allows you to climb buildings faster. To toss yourself up, just flick your arm down, and you should jump up, then grab the building with your other hand right before you start dropping. This way of climbing will take some practice, but it will get you much higher much quicker.
You can use this same tossing motion to climb with one hand. If you're ambushing a player on top of the building, it might be better to keep your gun out and climb with one hand instead of wasting time putting the gun away then pulling it out again.
So let's say you drop, you have good guns and plenty of supplies. Now what?
Pay attention to the zone and try to predict where it is closing, and go there. It is usually really easy to predict where the zone is going to close in on, and the sooner you get there, the better.
You generally don't want to find yourself constantly running from zone. This puts you at a tactical disadvantage.
When moving to the zone, try to use the edge of the map to your advantage and avoid getting stuck between multiple teams.
Once you've made it into the zone, try finding high towers or buildings that you can climb. Being high up provides a couple of advantages: first, you can see other teams coming. Second, you can then hit them with long range weapons. This forces them to try and find cover and move more slowly, unless they are riding the zone. In which case, you have easy targets that are forced to run in the open. Third, being on top of the tower allows you to fly to other positions more easily in case the zone moves away from you. All else being equal, teams that are higher up and in zone will win.
To build platforms, you need building material that can be found throughout the map. Each building material you pick up allows you to place 6 squares.
The key to using the building material to your advantage is to use it sparingly.
The main way I use building material is cover my back on top of buildings. As stated before, I like to climb towers and shoot people as they run to the zone. Sometimes these towers are flat on top, and so I build a few squares around me to give me some protection.
The other main way I use building material is to protect myself in tight situations.

Sick guide, for new players from a more competitive standpoint as someone who's won multiple competitions, you want to always be peaking, working the hardcover and move on with the zone, never be first because all the other teams come in and stomp you, stay right by your teammates when in a fight and have a plan B if you don't get more damage off than the enemy team from a distance fight, if your team does more damage push towards the weaker enemy team and always build before you die

Also go to weapons setttings and turn your smoothing to 100 and offhand influence to 0. Also make sure the turn speed is 360 and ease in is turned off in locomotion

Rule #1. Have a squad with good communication. Won 7 games back to back with a couple friends who communicate well. Communication and staying reasonably close with your squad is key. Dont get caught alone. Even a block or two between you and your teammates is enough to get you killed. Looting in a group is difficult as you can tend to bicker over who gets what. Thats another way communication and a good squad is helpful. Know who is good with what and who needs what ammo. Dont be a loot hog. Also, FLANK. A good flank can come in clutch when fighting enemies holding high ground.

It’s really based on skill and the ability to be COOL during fire fights. I’ll always hot drop at cemetery with multiple squads dropping with me and I always wipe them out just cause they’re freaking out not being calm. Trust me just breath and be cool and your squad will follow suit.
Because if you’re someone who cracks under pressure and doesn’t contribute to a game your team mates will hate you and sometimes call you out. I really hate try hards like that but be cool and you’ll never have to experience people blaming you on sucking

Just imagine throwing yourself up! takes a bit of practice to figure out.
I know it sounds like weird advice, but Panda is right lol! Just think "how would I fling myself up with one hand if I was super strong".. it should be intuitive from there and works for 2 handed climbing. In fact if you're not one-hand climbing well, you're definitely not 2 handed climbing as fast or efficiently as you can be, it just works well enough. Remember You're not holding a play station controller in your hand.... think intuitively, but with some power/strength increase. To be more specific, you need to release your grip button at the very *bottom" of your pull-up throw/wrist fling/flick motion thingy :) ... (thats the technical term ;) )

Any non confrontational playstyle is at massive disadvantage. Because players that are confrontational have FAR MORE combat experience. And will majority of the time outplay non confrontational players.

Its harder than normal but its not that hard at all. Just use one hand and stick it straight out. Then use the other to shoot ur gun. there is nearly no penalty to using 1 hand in this game
Only a few weapons in the entire game does however like the M60 and the MP5. I recommend using the UMP with one hand and when u get good at it switch to whatever other gun you want over time. Personally I like using the P90 since it does great damage and has fast speed. even shotguns dont have recoil like jesus
I see you use 2 hands. im saying just use 1 hand with most weapons and ur fine. Dont use the MP5 since it has too much recoil. Use the UMP with 1 hand to start off and when your good at it switch to other weapons. This is my own personal experience however you dont have to use the UMP. the UMP has OK damage and good recoil. whereas the MP5 has MAJOR recoil and about the same damage.
So just stick 1 hand out and use the other to shoot. its easy if u know how to 1 hand weapons. And you WILL want to 1 hand weapons when you get good. Also yes there are many things wrong with this video but I just had to point one out - aka the most important. (using one hand to shoot guns)
Ah yes, let me get myself shot out of the air while I try to glide across an open space shoot people with an inferior weapon.
One handing a UMP is easy, but pretty much every other gun will do more damage and so you'll get shot down if you're flying in the open. Same thing with the CX4
One handing high recoil weapons isn't an option, as you recognize, unless you're just gliding close by your enemy. Though if you get good enough, I have used the AKM and MP5 one handed several times at mid range enemies.
Shotguns won't do crap unless, again, you're just gliding right next to your enemy.
Pistols are great for gliding. But again, you don't want to be flying and shooting enemies for longer than a split second cuz if you're just gliding across the open sky, you will get shot down 9 out of 10 times.

@@VirtualPandaVR plus i said shotguns are good to one hand, not to fly and shoot across the map. one handing high recoil weapons is how you get thousands of damage every single map without positioning bruh. I forgot to mention AKM in my opinion isnt good to one hand but a lot of other people can so its all up to you. i just mentioned "you should probably use the UMP first to get good at it" so u can learn to control the recoil and stuff with one hand. i said u can use other items too but thats just what i used
most of the time i was suggesting good guns to use. i wasnt saying u should use it to fly across the map to shoot at the enemy (as per the shotgun) "one handing high recoil weapons isnt an option" exactly why i said dont use the MP5 or M60 as an example if u wanna 1 hand it. 1 handing items is the single most important tip in all of the game man. at least im my opinion.
I prefer using an AKM (even though i dont like it) with 1 hand rather than using a CX4 with 2 hands
I prefer using an UMP 1 handed at far range rather than using a SAKO 2 handed
I prefer using a P90 1 handed close range rather than using a DT11 shotgun close range 2 hands even if it has 5 bullets in one magazine
I prefer using a Sako 1 handed rather than using a Sako 2 handed
I prefer using an M10 one handed at close-mid range rather than using an UMP 2 handed
