I love how her expression through the whole exam was, "O___________O" Also, how did you separate her from her mom? Was her mom sedated, and then you went for the extraction?
Due I suppose to wolves very strongly reinforced, as well as innate fear of humans, they retreat to a safe distance when humans approach or even when we enter their den. (This behavior of Trumpet is typical. She's fearful but calm & tolerant nevertheless. She senses the calmness & even the goodwill of what must seem like her to be her oppressors. Don't you wish that your dog was this good at your familiar veterinary hospital?) 'Surprisingly deferential to humans when they'll stand their ground & threaten black or grizzly bears, & cougar that get too close to their pups. They aren't harmless to humans but present an almost negligible threat. That's based both on a life of personal experience, as well as on a professionally based statistical analysis. They certainly don't deserve either our (European ancestry's) fear, our hate or our centuries long pattern of persecution! 🐾 🍁 🐾
To anyone wondering about why the person is holding Trumpet by the neck. It’s called “scruffing” which is a natural behaviour used by canine and feline (and other animals) parents to stop their offspring from wriggling around if they have to move the baby. It doesn’t hurt the baby because the scruff is just loose skin. The handler scruffed Trumpet to keep her still while the vet checked her over.
...but so calm & tolerant nonetheless! ' Very typical wolf behaviour! No wonder that they're human's oldest domesticated animal by a factor of five to eight! I.e. Canis lupus familaris (dogs) at about 40,000 years compared next in line to sheep, goats & cattle at perhaps 8,000!!! Don't worry Trumpet : there are loads of humans who love WOlves : I know you are elusive and very shy but I can tell you that humans love wolves despite idiots killing your fellow species by pure idiocy !
...yes but so tolerant & cooperative nonetheless! 'So typical of wolves...even live captured wild adults in most cases! @@geoffpimlott1218 what if they didn't restrain her by the neck so much? Could she still be calm or would she try to squirm? And is there a way to make her feel better during the procedure? Belly rubs, nuzzling, etc?

I agree. I think, animals should be handled like women at gynecologist's: in a nice, cozy place, with *very* friendly surroudings and ones they trust, not just some guy in gloves, touching you up with creepy gadgets o'willy-nilly.. Btw, optical termometers aren't an alien technology anymore. If Subway got them for their every staff member - you can surely get at least a couple.
I read a book in middle school about wolves. I don't remember much, but there was a part of it where the wolves were being taken by humans and released. Since this was the point of view of the wolves, it was said to be terrible and frightening, but it was either implied or stated that they were being given a vaccine or something like that.
What's happening with Trumpet? You've not posted anything on her progress for months. I'm really and I'm sure others are looking forward to news of her progress.
Trumpet is sooo cute

Takes a lot to keep a wolf or anything in this society healthy

Trumpet's just had pups!
Check out the video posted on UA-cam with her in her den (or den box) with at least two new pups! 🐾 🍁 🐾
Aww cute puppy! That might be my cousin, that wolf.
But why hold it SO firm?
why she pulls a pup's neck like that?
It’s called “scruffing” and it’s to make sure Trumpet doesn’t squirm around while the vet looks her over
