The album was written because the was diagnosed with lupus and leukemia and thought she was going to die. This was to be the body of work she wanted the world to remember as her last. But thankfully she went into remission and is getting better so all of the stuff you mentioned about trauma wasn’t just about life , it was about her literally being sick and heading to the grave.
i’m a 23 fit looking guy who deals with horrible chronic pain and a heart condition, but i find so much comfort in dog years because it rlly expresses the tiredness, frustration and quiet rage you feel when you’ve been completely betrayed by your body. so many relationships and memories i could’ve made that have been completely destroyed and ripped from me. i think the out of tune guitar strums is such a perfect choice for the context of the song. so thankful for this entire record
Reading this made me appreciate the song on an even deeper level. It’s a reminder of the strength it takes to face pain every day. Keep pushing through - I hope the music keeps giving you the solace you deserve.
as a relatively active guy myself who struggles with a horrific neurological disorder, i found so much connection to this album and also to your comment. the constant frustration with our bodies, knowing what they could be capable of but just aren't can be overwhelming. i think also as men in our patriarchal society there's an unspoken expectation that we should always be physically capable and strong, and when we aren't it's hard to find our place. you nailed it with quiet rage. this album is going to be one of my favorites for the rest of my life i think. i wish you the best man
This is beautifully put, and I couldn’t agree more that’s exactly how it feels. I’m always astounded with Halsey’s ability to dig into such complex emotions
i'm a 27 year old woman who appears healthy but i struggle with many chronic illnesses & chronic pain. just know you're not alone. albums like this help me remember that. i've never heard anything like TGI, it puts my feelings into words and music perfectly.
This album is AOTY in my opinion. Like this is so strong, so powerful, good sounded, well-written and more. I can’t stop listen to this from the release day. This is not just “some album”, It’s a masterpiece. Thank you, Halsey
Have seen a few of your previous reactions but finally subscribed after watching this! Seeing a lot of comments here about people’s chronic health struggles - sending everyone healing vibes and as much peace as you can muster. I’ve been dealing with endometriosis (which is something Halsey has also talked about in their music) for 10+ years and because of Halsey music I KNOW I am not alone; someone I feel close to through their music knows what I go through. And that’s powerful. Albums like this and artists like Halsey are so critically important in the pop culture and music world. Seeing artists that we look up to bare their soul like this not only reminds us that they are as human as we are and that we are as capable as they are. “I just hit forget, we just not forget that we are human beings” is the end of a Ren song that hits hard after listening to this album all weekend. Thank you for such a thoughtful genuine caring and gentle reaction to a heavy but powerful piece of work 💕
my top 7 ~ right now at least lol 1. Lonely is the Muse 2. Arsonist 3. I Believe in Magic 4. Letter to God (1997) 5. Darwinism 6. I Never Loved You 7. The End
I always look forward to your reactions, you’re very insightful and considerate. This album was written after she found out she had leukemia and lupus, her child’s father left her (after allegedly cheating and she found out) bc he couldn’t deal with her chronic illnesses and it really just drives the point home of being surrounded by so many ppl and feeling so incredibly lonely bc none of them are actually there for You, they’re there for the person they think you are or who you are when you mask and she put it so beautifully into words. AOTY material for sure
Each song is like an impersonation of another artist from the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Hence all the different genre's Lucky - Britney Spears: 2000's Lonely is the Muse - Evanessence: 90's I Never Loved You - Kate Bush: 80's Panic Attack - Stevie Nicks: 70's
really appreciate your reaction! i like how much you take in and process each song, and find something to relate to or connect with even in songs you're not sure about like arsonist and darwinism. for the letters to god songs, the prayer she refers to in the last two letters is in the first letter about praying to god to have leukemia as a child, and then only when she has a child of her own, god answered her prayer and gave her blood cancer as an adult as a sick twist of fate or a cruel answer to her prayer
when you said you'd love music videos for all these songs ... halsey actually did a short film for her previous album If I Can't Have Love I Want Power :)
I am begging you to react to the album, Positions, by ariana grande!! It turns 4 years old tomorrow so you should react to it in honor of its 4 year anniversary tomorrow! Then you can start reacting to her other albums! Please start reacting to her albums! You are my favorite reactor‼️
this album deserves AOTY, this is legendary. This is her best album, she needs to stay in her alt pop/rock era. (forever).
