Lot IL 62M, SP LBC

This was taken in 3/14/87 at Anchorage International Airport. It was reported that the Polish flights at that time were transporting sailors to and from Anchorage that were with the Polish ships that were fishing the waters off Alaska

In my oppinion this is one of the most beutiful planes to ever fly in the air. It is so elegent, smouth. With no engines under the wing it looks so much better than its competitors (f. e. 707, DC-8). One of the engineering rules is that one should always be pushed, not pulled, so engines in the back are the best solution. Of course I understand the current form of airliners and advantages of underwing mounted engines. It is just pure technology in this aircraft. I know many people wrongfully say, that Il-62 was a copy od VC-10, but those are complitelly different aircrafts made as a response to the same market need at their times. What I am aiming at with this is that VC-10 is not as prety. It has a shorter fuselage with which it looks like a bit fatter :) so again - Il-62 is just pure beauty!

5 weeks later on May 9th 1987 SPL-LBG crashed killing all 183 occupants on board

Pity that the author did not do a close-up to the portrait on the plane. Was that Kościuszko? The exact plane that crashed in May 1987???

Same thing was with american and european engineering. Technology at the time was way worse than today. Of course there were fatal accidents, but the same thing with Boeing or Airbus. 737 for example at the time had a similar accident rate as Tu-154. So no need to blame everyting on Soviets. Furthermore! To a lot of eastern crashes contibuted poor maintenence.

@@OrganistaIgor Dokładnie, lecz opinia już była tak nadszarpnięta, że mimo usprawnień jakie dokonano latać tym już ludzie nie chcieli.Szkoda tylko że tak późno poszli po rozum do głowy by poprawić wręcz oczywiste rozwiązania konstrukcyjne jak np. zdublowane sterowanie samolotem.
