sorry guys the math does not add up. the reporter guy says that Noah gets 150 bales per acre... and the cost of about sh60 bob per bale..which equals sh9000/- then Noah says that cost per acre is sh15000/- ..so which is which? you have me confused here.. these numbers are made up to make the venture look good, and they don't check out
also, at the beginning, the Noah guy says he has 550acres under the grass, but 250 of them are for Kenya seed company seed...so that leaves him with 300 acres for bale production...ok he then says he produces 50000 bales per year..and he says harvest is twice per yr...so that would put his mid yr harvest at 25000 bales.. divide that by the 300 acres.. it puts you at around 84 bales per acre..so sorry I call bs on this one
Carrs Gotsold it actually is profitable. I am from the same area. Average yield is 250 bales /yr. 150 long rains. ..100 short rains. costs are high coz you need tractors to harvest which alone is 5500sh per acre: cut (1500sh/acre) , rake (1500sh/acre) and bale (2500sh/acre). NB: You have not factored in planting and fertiliser application and if you don't own the land- leasing. price per bale is determined by availability. can be as low as 90sh at harvest time or as high as 200sh in dry season like mid Feb-early April. Most farmers dispose on harvest. grass for seed development is harvested as well after seeds (the top most part if the plant) are harvested. so he makes money twice.
good for him, hay is a big business here in U.S,

I will really like to learn this farming
