This looks good, but it's impossible to find here in Australia. I saw Field Commander: Napoleon on your shelf. I guess a review will be coming soon? I picked up Field Commander: Alexander based off Liz Davidson's review.

Sorry it’s tough to find. DVG seems pretty small as a company (maybe I’m wrong), so not sure how wide their distribution goes.
And yup, Napoleon is #3 or 4 in the queue, so should be coming in maybe 2 weeks or so

One Stop Co-op Shop DVG is hard to find in Australia, and if you do find them they are very expensive (about $150AUD or $100USD a game). Buying direct is also expensive as shipping is about $30USD to Australia.

The first thing I do when I see a good solo or coop game is check whether there is a digital version available :D So many of these games would be so great to play on PC.

This one definitely has an app. I haven’t tried it, but some members of our Slack say it’s good

Would love to know which David Thompson's wargame is your favorite for solo?

So here are the ones I've played:
By Stealth and Sea (only a bit for the Kickstarter preview), Pavlov's House, Castle Itter, and For What Remains (still playing this one in prep for my review).
Of those, I think Itter is my favorite, BUT I have limited experience with 2 of the 4, so that could change. And I haven't played Undaunted yet (waiting on the solo next year).

@@OneStopCoopShop Thanks for the feedback! I'm really eager to try the undaunted solo. Was about to buy it and try a solo variant from a fan but then the news of the official solo came out and I decided to wait. Wanted a wargame to try until then and Castle Itter might just be it! Thanks Mike :)

Man, I'm so curious about this and Pavlov's house, but my fear is that Dawn of the Zeds has ruined me for all these siege-like games. There is just SO MUCH content in Zeds and so much variety due to the randomized hero characters and heroic civilians you get every new game. There are so many dramatic wins and losses within every game and cool, thematic moments like when suddenly looters show up who are both good and bad for you, and when the national guard shows up, it feels like such a dramatic blast of hope. And just tonally, Zeds has such a delightful, almost whimsical approach to its characters and events that creates such delightful emergent narrative moments (like when in one game, Horatius the Ape hopped on the horse and suddenly became unstoppable).
I fear if I go from that to Itter or Pavlov, that those will feel like a one-trick pony and less rich from game to game.

If you DO want to try one, I’d suggest Itter. It has more variety in how enemies spawn.
That said, you are correct in that zeds has more variety and wackiness. But this system is a great design, and also worth some plays.
An advantage these games have over Zeds is super quick enemy turns. You don’t have to do 4R, eat, roll for zombies, move them, battle, resolve 2 events, and so on ;)

One Stop Co-op Shop appreciate the recommendation and I’ll keep that in mind for sure! I think I potentially had Pavlov above of Itter in consideration, but I’ll swap those.

One Stop Co-op Shop by any chance could you give me another recommendation for a dense, relatively heavy and rich solo game akin to Zeds or Nemo’s War? I fear I may have set the bar too high with these two as my first solo-exclusive games. I find I’m frustrated by the unrelenting cruelty of Robinson Crusoe (it’s difficulty feels more unpleasant than the infamous difficulty of Zeds and Nemo somehow-I think it’s because you never feel like you land any little “wins” throughout the experience) and a lot of the Euro games I love are intolerably boring to me solo (Anachrony, Le Havre, Terraforming, etc.)

@@andrewd118 maybe Cloudspire? Lots of nice variety in the factions. It's one of my favorites. I have a bunch of videos here you can check out to see if it appeals to you.

@@OneStopCoopShop I just bought Undaunted. I am to try playing it solo with the suggested solo rules on BGG. I am sure the automa by David Turczi will be great when it comes out, but that is not till next year.

Great video as always. What I was wondering is this, is the game different enough from Pavlov’s House to own both games?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 роки тому +1

It certainly feels pretty different. Not like comparing a COIN game to Settlers of Catan, of course, but different :)
Pavlov has a much wider scope, and more interesting risk-reward victory points with the assaults you can lead (often killing a lot of your troops). Pavlov has the entire operational side of thing, which doesn't exist in Itter. Pavlov has more varied enemies (tanks really change things up), weapon teams, and fairly endless troops you can spawn in.
Itter is a tight focus, more varied troop spawning, VERY limited units on your side.
Personally, Itter worked for me a bit more, but I could see myself keeping both.
