- Make Your Own Anti-Static Spray - Simple DIY
I absolutely dread getting static electricity in my clothes. It’s annoying and it totally ruins the look of an outfit. I’ve also noticed lately that more designers are using polyester instead of silk and static and poly go hand-in-hand.
So in an effort to say goodbye to static forever I went on a mission to find a solution.
I remember an old friend telling me about this easy home recipe and after playing around with the quantities I’ve now got the perfect formulation and it works a treat.
I also make my own anti-static dryer sheets to use in my clothes dryer to stop the static building up in the first place. These are also super easy to make and are perfect for preventing static building up in the first place.
I hope you enjoy watching this video.

The fabric softener and water solution in a spray bottle was an instant life saver. Thankyou!
Glad it helped!
Can not thank you enough for this tip. I had been getting static shocks for nearly 2 months strait. Getting larger and larger by the day. Had one just before using this tip that was so big. It not only stung like hell. It made a tiny blister and a pin prick sized hole in my hand.
This cleared the static build up instantly. Thank you so much.
Ouch! That happened to my lip when I kissed my husband! Goodness gracious, it hurt! I never imagined that could happen. 😆
Binge watching a lot of your older videos on my day off, love them all
Oh gosh thanks so much - I find it hard to watch some of my older videos LOL :)
If only I had know this earlier! I've been buying 150ml bottles of anti-static spray for anywhere between $16 - $22 each for YEARS. And I go through truck loads. I cannot believe there is an inexpensive alternative. Thank you so much - this is life changing for me! Going out to buy supplies immediately 💖
That’s great news 👍🏼
Yeah but what if hi oure a bloke and don't want the fabric softener spray all over your clothes (especially when wearing a fragrance)
@@Boostinpulsar
You can buy fragrance free!!
@@Boostinpulsar There are sensitive no odour options of softener.
Thank you SO much for this video! xoxo
Very Well presented
Thank you so very much
COBALT DE VENTA you’re welcome 👌🏼
Thanks for these very interesting suggestions. Two questions: Would the vinegar recipe that you use for dryer sheets work for the spray on clothes? Also, if you keep the spray in your car, does that mean you use it on the outside of your clothes when you're out in the world?
Thank you..!!!
Fabulous!!
great tips! thank you! i wear a safety pin on the inside of skirts, petticoats and NO static problems! hair spray works well too👍
So that does actually work?
The Style Insider yes! i used to be static magnet! i had to stop wearing my favorite clothes because it was embarrassing. now i have safety pins stuck in slips, skirts with satin linings, etc. i leave them pinned on even in the wash!
I love Dusters but fabric is sheer and despite lotion and fabric softener, nothing works. How many Safety Pins to one skirt? I don't want them showing. Thank You. 💋
But then you will be wearing
Dirty, hairspray ridden clothes
@@falsehoodbasher7240 i guess..but no more than having dirty hairspray in your hair?
Love this!
Thank you :)
Greatttttttt Thank you very much!
Hello Leonie,
Thank you for the great tips. I has a question… I live in Texas and it is heavy dust and pollen season right now. What ‘recipe’ would you suggest that I could use on my large picture windows and sliding glass doors. They seem to attract dust and pollen in a major way. Not to mention hard surfaces, like furniture. Let us know if you come up with something!
Keep on keeping on!
I really like this tip because it's a thing I've always got at home i had a disability so going out to the shops is not easy and i shop at Aldi an they never have drier sheets so thank you for your excellent tip.x

Thank you for this! I have a 60% wool coat that is CONSTANTLY attracting lint and hair… I have a golden retriever and I’m blonde - the cost is black…. So nightmare!! If I were to remove all of the lint and spray the formula on do you think it will keep all of that at bay? I was going to buy some anti static spray but might try this instead.. any input would be great!! Subscribed ✨
If you ball up aluminum foil and place it in the dryer, it will also make the clothes anti-static. I'll spray the inside of the dryer with the witch hazel/lavender mix to make my clothes smell pleasant.
I had no idea about the foil in the dryer - thanks so much for sharing :)
I try but no matter how big of a ball of foil I still get static. I've had to go back to dryer sheets because of static
About spraying on the inside. I wonder if it's good for your skin to be in contact with clothes sprayed with softener.
And one more question: I'm more concerned about lint than about clothes clinging. Do these recipes help prevent or minimize lint?
it worked!
I need something that will stop my cats hair from attaching to some of my clothes. It seems it’s sticks to cotton polyester mix. I’ll try both of these, but oh so annoying because the cat hairs like stick into the material not just
On
does it work on blankets too?
Does the spray leave any marks on clothes/lighter (color/weight) fabrics?
I wouldn't use it on silk or anything that is dry-clean only but you could always test a small patch to make sure. :)
It's sure
Will the anti static spray prevent my wool/polyester coat from collecting fluff and hairs?
Mix up a small batch and just give it a try! 👍🏼
I'm trying to find something safe for use on plastic: New toilet seat is like a magnet for hair and dust. Wonder if fabric softener or vinegar would damage or discolor the plastic?
I'm definitely going to try this!!
JaiBird great stuff! It works so well!
Just be sure not to use it on silk or dry-clean only fabrics :)
The Style Insider okay thanks! 👍
will this work for my black pants that throughout the day are just lint magnets?
Hmmm I don't think it will prevent lint sorry!
wow, are you always negatively charged that much to to carry around a person bottle? lol . thanks for the video thou! fixed my couch .
Low humidity is what causes static electricity. If you hang your clothes on a rack in your house they dry pretty fast and the moisture from the clothes help humidify your house
1/2 cup water + 1 TBPS of softener 1:16
Idk what it is with this T-shirt of mine? I fold it, and put it away. Then when I take it out, it's all stuck together? I use both Dryer sheets and Softener on all my clothes?🤔 So, it doesn't cling to me, but to itself? And it looks aweful..
I like how she shakes the bottle. Lol.
Does this help repel dog and cat hair?
I don't think so sorry!
How would I use this spray on a wooden jacket please.
Wooden jacket???
Ask Pinocchio, he might have a solution.
Sounds VERY uncomfortable.
Have you tried the spray on hair?
Do you mean hair spray?
Yes. So match hair static, I was wondering if you have tried it on hair?
Jadorelamode Paris ahh sorry I misunderstood. I haven’t used this on hair but you could replace the fabric softener with hair conditioner and I reckon that would work really well. In fact, the conditioner works well on clothes too so would def be worth giving it a try. 👍🏻
Another trick is to add your favorite oil, I use avocado oil, to some lotion and slather it over your arms and legs. Let it soak in and viola!
static makes me itchy
Is this safe for skin?
I've never had any problems :)
@@Thestyleinsider. Thank you for the reply!
There is no way spraying liquid fabric softener on your clothes to be directly against your skin is safe. It is a toxic chemical that is supposed to be rinsed from your clothing and even then I would never use it!
Can you do a NO ANNOYING MUSIC 🎶 VERSION? 😳
Fabric softener is not natural.
Did I say it was?
@@Thestyleinsider. 😂👏
tries this and did not work at all waste of a botttle and time
Music is annnoying and audio is too sharp. Thanks for the tips!
Why are you peddling toxic fabric softeners? There's so many other ways to do this without using chemicals.
Please share?
@@Thestyleinsider. Please look up why dryer sheets are so toxic and all of the chemicals they have inside of them. Nobody should be using dryer sheets for anything. All I do is soak a wash rag with vinegar water and put it in my dryer and the static goes away on all of my clothes. Simple and healthy.
These are very good tips I will try this, thanks. But seriously, giving people the choice between reusable and disposable as if it didn’t matter is completely irresponsible. You live in a bubble. If you do give people the choice you can maybe just slightly recommend the reusable solution? I mean, it is kind of important if we want to keep enjoying our life on this planet.
It's not her job to force a lifestyle down someone else throat. People should be educated enough to know the importance of reusable and decide for themselves.
