    Spent a rainy evening photographing Jersey Shore with Leica M6 and Leica Summicron 50mm to test the lens.
    The first impressions about the lens are that it is really heavy, yet well-built high-quality glass. The images were sharp and I would recommend the 50mm Summicron "Rigid" to anyone looking for a good lens to invest in.
    Thanks again Willem for filming the video and showing me around!

    That lens is the DR, not rigid (same optics though, but even better built and can close focus to 0.5m with the goggles). If you like the optics but not the weight, the rigid weights less 150g or so. Great lens, one of my favorites too! Looking forward for more videos!

      This was my next question, mine is the DR and I was confused about rigid vs DR vs collapsible :) Glad I ended up with the DR (and a collapsible). If I was worried about weight I would use an iPhone :)

    The Summicron 50DR may not be THE best optically if compared to the recent unaffordable APO ASPHs but, being a bit moody wide open, tack sharp at f4, f5.6 ... with two focus ranges, it’s certainly the most versatile. And it’s a great performer overall, a mechanical masterpiece and a lot of fun! Thanks very much for the lovely video; I love those costal places in the rain. :-)

    Great video! Savage shooting in the rain! Yes, the Summicron Rigid is the best. Your DR is second best, because it uses the same optical block as the Rigid. .... so the DR is basically the same lens as a Rigid, but the DR can focus closer.

    This is a Leica Dual Rangę, and not a Rigid. As I found out the hard way, Dual Range Summicrons are not compatible with Leica digital Ms. So if you have an M8 or newer and want a Summicron 50mm Type II, get a Rigid.

  • @nicolasfilsdejean
    @nicolasfilsdejean 2 роки тому +2

    Great shots, I love the last ones (lesser light and more "moody""). I just wanted to say to anyone reading this: be aware that older Leica lenses, like this DR, are prone to having some growth inside (fungus) which greatly alter contrast/sharpness and cannot always be CLA'd. My own experience: I bought that same lens you have there with the matching goggles (which enable the lens to focus down to 4.5cm. Without the goggles, the mini focus dist is 1m....) knowing there was a little fungus inside. I sent it off to two Leica shops (one is official and the other is reknown third party): they both said that the growth happened to be between two unseperable lens elements and therefore the lens became useless ....... If you do find one in good condition, it's probably a great lens but I personnaly will keep away from older lenses .....
