    I was diagnosed with RSV virus in early 2022 at 79 years old. Had 4 separate 2-month attacks, could not breathe, violent coughing for 5/24-hour days, hospitalization. I still use oxygen at night. I was diagnosed with a-fib, had a shingles breakout, kidney stone removed. I am just getting my strength back although I had a viral stomach flu a month ago. I do praise the Lord for helping me.

      Sharon, my mom -- 85 -- had RSV a few weeks ago. She just came back from the hospital and I believe she had this a month ago and it went unrecognized and untreated until last week when she actually was tested for RSV. I think her first symptom was grunting on exhalation. She also developed paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with heart rates up to 170-190. The BP med Dilitiazem (a calcium channel blocker) helped control the high rates (she already has a pacemaker and takes a beta-blocker). I am so glad you are okay. We are still watching her closely and she's getting IV fluids because this threw her into temporary (at least we hope) congestive heart failure. I am glad you commented on this video, because it's very hard to find info on RSV in older adults. All my best to you in your recovery. Slow and steady.

    This actually happened to my mom, complete with the grunting sounds. She's 85 and developed RSV and the first symptom was the grunting sounds on each exhalation. She just came back from the hospital and I believe she had this a month ago and it went unrecognized and untreated until last week when she actually was tested for RSV. I think her first symptom was grunting on exhalation. She also developed paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with heart rates up to 170-190. I don't know if this helps anyone but my 4 month old is currently recovering from it. I use saline with a nose fredia and the ball snot sucker to constantly clear his airways. If you are afraid to do so or it gets really bad (the mucus build up) the e.r can suck it out as well (which I had to get done day 5 when he was really congested). Also Tylonal for his fever.

    When i was little and throughout all of my childhood right until I became a teenager I had this couldn't breathe at all when it appeared and we had to call an ambulance every couple of weeks because it was very consistently appearing it was terrible I even passed out from lack of air a couple of times but then I just grew out of it when I was about 12 13 and that was it so don't worry even if it's an extreme case just react quickly and know that the child is very probably going to grow out of it.

    My baby has RSV right now and he was a premature baby and is only 10 weeks old right now. It has been a nightmare. We’ve been to the doctor twice in the last 3 days. So far they say it’s not in his lungs and he seems like he’s doing fairly well. Oxygen levels were good both times despite the congestion. Today is day 4 of symptoms and he woke up a little more active today but more wheezy and more coughing. And I don’t feel like he’s coughing hard enough to get it all out. I just took a 30 minute shower with him and let him breathe in all that steam and then we have this booger sucker machine to clear his sinuses.
    One of the doctors sent us home with antibiotics in case of it turning into Bronchitis or Pneumonia. And I’m stressed because I don’t know if that’s what is happening right now. I do feel like it is trying to move lower but not sure if I should just start him on the antibiotics. 😢
    So damn stressful. Days like today I wish I had a Dr in the family. He already spent a little over his first week of life in the nicu for his oxygen (he was born @ 35 wks 1 Day gestation) soo to say I’m paranoid is an understatement!

    I am currently in the hospital with my 1month old daughter and she and her sister who is 2years old were both checked up at the same time tho my newborn daughter was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis the day before (rushed into the E.R)Earlier today I had a really TRAMA//SCARY// FRIGHTENING SCARE OF MY LIFE! We were home, everything was fine until I woke her up from her nap for feeding; I checked her temperature which was 100.8 F she then started to cough and when she was coughing she started choking and she turned RED to PURPLE then to BLUE. She was not breathing for 2-3 Minutes. I panicked and called my husband who was at work at the time and Screamed and Panicked yelling “MY BABY, MY BABY IS RED HUBBBBBY!!! MY BABY!!! Then, tried getting in contact with my family to take us because my husband was stuck at work; Later on my husband ended up rushing home and my family took my oldest daughter so we could rush my newborn into the E.R. So we made it to the E.R they ran labs on her and everything came back NEGATIVE but RSV. They had to do suction because she was really congested and they needed to put her on Oxygen due to her breathing and so much mucus backed up in her lungs and chest. So now we’re in the NICU and my daughter is still on OXYGEN, on IV, still denying breast milk and I am currently holding her in my arms as I type. As a mother and having to experience this the VERY FIRST TIME IS SCARY AND FRIGHTENING. I pray that no other babys go thru this.

    How to identify that some child has wheezing by seeing the chest or stomach (outside apperance of that part)

    • @DrODonovan
      @DrODonovan  2 роки тому

      Hi - wheezing specifically is a sound that you might just be able to hear from the end of the bed, if it is more subtle then you would need to listen to the chest using a stethascope. I think what you are referring to is looking at the chest wall to look for signs of respiratory distress. In this case you might seen indrawing of the muscles in between the ribs (intercostal muscles), diaphragmatic breathing and use of other accessory muscles. You may also see something called 'nasal flaring' where the nostrils flare out.

      Bronchiectasis - a condition in which damage to the airways causes them to widen and become flabby and scarred. Good morning or better good first hour after midnight. Yes this is the time I am writing to you since my wife just got back from ER where she spent few hours . We have to watch him and if his breathing becomes bad again we have to go back for oxygen.
    Reason he went he had short breath and was very lethargic had some fever that did not want to go down.
    He just turned his 1 year on Saturday.
    Diagnosis rsv bronchiolitis second time.
    This is his second time he got it with 5 months old from day care.
    My worries are my question is this going to become a problem in way that it may become chronicle and how we prevent it from that path. Whom we should go see and what to do.
