I paid 15 euros extra for business from Vienna to Prague on my Eurail pass. They gave me a beer with the upgrade. It was definitely worth it. I had just come from Germany with full trains and I had the whole business class section to myself...great video by the way...
Thanks for the great review! Wein hbf one of my favourite stations too and I think the Railjet a great train...although I am not keen on the exterior livery. Business Class looks awesome- have never tried that...maybe will pay the surcharge next time I have a Eurail pass.
Linda, I rode business class on Railjet last week on a Eurail first class global pass. They charged me 15 euros extra and you get a free drink ( I had a beer), it's definitely worth the upgrade ...I had the whole car to myself
What a great video! Very much appreciated it as we will be traveling from Salzburg to Budapest in the beginning of December 2022. Coming from the USA, we are slightly familiar with the European train system (made it to Rotterdam from Amsterdam with no problems on our last trip!), but I was wondering if you could answer one question. Our train coming from Salzblurg will have a change over in Vienna. We will have 12 minutes to make the connection. Knowing the station, do you think that will be enough time for 2 Americans (each with a checked on size piece of luggage) to make it to the next track on time? We have no walking issues.....but just aren't sure how big the station really is. Would appreciate your guidance. Also, since we are traveling with luggage, should we make a reservation ? If you think a track change might be difficult, there is a later train (1 hour later) that is a non-stop.....it's just more expensive. Would appreciate any advice you can offer! Thanks very much!!! You are now my "go to" guy for info on the rail system in Europe!!
How great, I think you should make if on time. If there's a delay, why you can't make it, just go to the railway staff to re-book your tickets (don't just hop in the next train, on this route you find a cooperation of the state owned companies of Austria & Hungary and a commercial operator). If you want to know more about the railway station of Salzburg, I recorded that early 2020, when covid was only a thing in China. You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/0TDzgX75_10/v-deo.html And actually for today, I've scheduled a video I recorded last year where I'm showing the railway station of Budapest Keleti.
I'll be doing this route in July 2023. I'll only be in Vienna for around 4 to 6 hours, do you 100% need to book these in advance, or can you right before boarding. The later option would give us a little more freedom on how we spend our time in Vienna.
You can book last-minute. However, you won't have promotional tickets if you do that and if it's very busy a seat reservation is very much advised (I honestly don't know how busy it will be in July).
@Trainviking thank you so much for your quick answer. A few days after this, we will be taking a train from Budapest to Prague. Does it matter which company I book with or should I just book the most convenient time.
Thank you, I'm using ecopassenger.org for the calculations. I adjust this to full occupancy for planes and trains and i use railway green certificates.
This is really depending per country, honestly I can't answer that correctly. At the moment of recording (October 2021) in Austria yes and in Hungary no. At this moment, as far as I know and experience, only in Germany you need to wear a face mask. However, this might change soon so please check the official websites that will provide more detailed information.

It's the Schengenzone. I'm not an official information source, however a travel ID card or pasport should be enough (drivers license is no travel ID card). If you're nir from the Schengen zone but still e.u. I guess this should be fine as well, however please check thus at the official information.

Do you recommend seat reservation on this route if we're traveling in October?
I can't predict this. More people are traveling now because more journeys are possible. So if you want to play safe, than just reserve a seat.
Is there a place to place large suite cases if going business class?
Of course there is a spot for that, these are long distance trains after all.
How much the ticket from Vienna to Budapest?

I came to this video to watch travel from Vienna to Budapest. This had too much, unrelated detail and was very confusing.
