The reason why they're being stolen is because what's inside of them. Rhodium, platinum, and palladium. You can just take it out and melt it no one will know the difference.
Had my cats stolen off my 2020 Tundra 1 month after buying it new. Insurance paid $7,000 to fix the damages. Truck was down for more than a month due to a national back order on these Toyota converters. Installed a shield from a guy I found on eBay for a few hundred dollars. It fit great and did the job fine. Hopefully Toyota and other car makers will come up with something from the factory to deter theft.
@@boostedmaniac It was made by Desert Eagle out of the North Texas area. He was making plates for a lot of north Texas area Toyota dealers from what I’m told. Last I checked he didn’t have anything listed online. My guess is he’s busy with those customers.
@@coltglass3045 Yeah, I wasn't actually criticizing your comment. It was more aimed at Toyota for falling behind their pickup competition in useful features, such as a tailgate step. And probably knowing but not caring that they're the #1 target of cat thieves, since the Tundra has enough clearance underneath for two fat guys to play Twister.
A windshield wiper pump, some carefully aimed spray nozzles and a reservoir filled with the friendliest substance you can think of paired with a live camera and remote on/off switch would be even cooler. And depending on what's in the reservoir, it may keep a thief from stealing from anyone else again.

Like illegal drugs, as long as there is a market (buyers) for them, there will be providers (sellers, i.e., thieves). TIme to crack down on the metal recyclers who pay for these stolen catalytic converters. They need to be held to laws similar to pawn shops. Sellers to provide business info (are you a muffler or repair shop?), driver's license of the seller, and recyclers to have video. This is RICO, and the collaboration of the recycler is criminal, as well.
Im not sure about Texas, but in California welding anything to the frame or unibody of any vehicle unless specified by the manufacturer is considered frame damage
What a brilliant idea!!! Just leave your vehicle in the garage all of the time. Never go out anywhere in it. If replacing your catalytic converter cost thousands, you are in the wrong repair shop
You could probably make a good living selling and installing these for others! Giving people some peace of mind. 🏁💙🌈
So basically give up on law enforcement

If all cars had their catalytic converters hidden above the transmission there would not be any stolen cats. One good reason to buy an Audi.
