I to am a winemaker. Most people do not know what all it takes to make a good fruit wine. This is exactly how i make my wine. This is the best video I have ever seen on this subject. Well done! Wish I had seen this 5 years ago when I stated, it would have saved me a lot of heartache!!! Thanks again.
I sanitize also, but I rinse it or get it all out of my jug first. my racking carboys are never foaming like that. I wonder how much of the starsan taste you're getting in your wine. You only need like a cup of sanitizer solution - diluted - in a Carboy. rinse it around let it air-dry
@@MikeP350 : I don't get it. Why are you sanitizing containers that will hold an all purpose sanitizer; alcohol? In part one the guy said the campden tablets were used to killed unwanted yeast. That sounds reasonable but to be drinking artificial sanitizers for convenience I don't get. What are you trying tokill that the alcohol won't?
i saw that foam and he was like "oh ya thats normal!" So i sat here and said... ya now everyone is going to make mead and wonder why the yeast are not fermenting.... BECAUSE YOU MURDERED THEM XD, yes you need to be clean and sanitize. But really? i mean do you pour your coffee over dawn and water? XD i feel bad. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE. JimboStar did you make watermelon mead? im thinking of making some!
should you not use campden tabs every time you rack? also why not take a reading after the first racking before its stored for a few months just to see if it done
Great videos. I don't think you overdid the sanitizing at all. If other viewers think it's preferable to risk contamination, that's their problem. I'll be trying this, this week!
Contamination of what? I'm honestly not getting it. My grandmother would make plum wine. She'd throw a bunch of plums in a five gallon crock mash them up throw in about 20 pounds of sugar, some bread yeast, put a towel over the top and let it sit, for days/weeks occasionally stirring it and adding more sugar. Isn't the alcohol killing any unwanted bacteria?
@@williejohnson5172 correct! The bacteria can change the flavor of the mead or wine. However, sanitizing will kill the yeast. Starzan is a HEAVY sanitizer. So it is good to clean then rinse and dry. THEN use filtered water to make it. Afterward, you can add flavors once it has fermented. This is because the yeast may not ferment using the new flavors due to sugars varying between fruits. Also some fruits spoil and go bad so you need to figure out how you want to add the flavors. Usually, after fermentation is good. You can make sourdough with yeast in your area with just flour and water! So local yeast may affect the flavor. But ya you sanitize to get consistent flavors :D don't kill your yeast :D
Hi Justin. I am ready to run for the hills. Some say add 5 more campden tablets for each transfer. Some say only 2 times total- the first time and then at bottling. Is there a true way or is it all subjective? Thanks!!

One part I must be missing - it says wait 14 days or so to transfer to secondary, but on the card that is hanging around the carboy, it says it only took 6, is there a reason for the difference?
When I prepare any fruit I always freeze it prior to juicing, this gives better yields. When it's defrosted I use a hand blender and then pass it through a muslin cloth. Quick and easy.
Yes there are many different ways to do it. Everyone gas there own ways. Idk if it makes a difference maybe one should do an experiment to see if changing the process changes the end result. Cheers

Hi, I am from Tanzania. I want to know how can I buy the Wine Making Kit(all equipment) used to make home wine. Please assist me on that. Thanks in advance
Wine and beer making kits available from several suppliers. Go from basic supplies all the way up to full set-up kits. Just do a Google search and pick the one that meets your needs. Might possibly need to look at the fine print and find one that ships internationally. Alternatively, you can look at what the kits provide, and get similar equipment from the local hardware stores. The reusable 5 gallon water jugs work pretty good. Then all you need to get is a supply of yeast. Bread yeast will work, but the special strains supplied by kit makers are actually better. How much work you put into it depends on what you want your results to be. If you want something drinkable, it doesn't take that much work. If you want to make a fine wine that an aficionado would appreciate, a little more effort is needed.
part 3 will be out very soon this wine is on my bottling table now. bottles are washed I just need a couple hours to bottle it then I will be doing the last video in this series. so,watch for it very soon. Thank u for watching. cheers

I am unsure how this one has turned out yet it's till clearing should be ready in,another couple.months I will post a video on bottling it up,and a tasting of it when it's complete. cheers and thanks for watching.
I use three tablespoons of bleach in my 5 gallon carboy, fill with water and wait 20 minutes. I then rinse it by using one gallon of water which I shake vigorously in the carboy and then dump and repeat 5 times. I cook the watermelon while mashing the flesh until it reaches 180 degrees. No sulfur is needed via Camden tablets if you cook it. Sulfites is what gives folks headaches from drinking wine. I use no Food Safe high density plastic buckets for fermentation. It ferments right in the glass carboy.

Why transfer it into a secondary? What is the supposed reasoning behind this?
removing sediments? i think
